Regular DTs move faster than Hero DTs

So this shit just blew my mind, you wanna see how fast DTs actually are?

Hero DT - Regular DT - Zeratul

The regular DT pulls away pretty fast huh?

You can try it yourself with this basic map:

After messing around with it for a bit, you suddenly realize how dangerous a DT in a zerg's mineral line actually is, it moves SO fast when you see it compared to the hero DTs.

As for why Hero DTs are slower than a regular DT? I have no idea, anyone have any guesses?

Iirc Zeratul acts strange in many ways. Doesn't he also has a delay with his attack? Like that there is a small pause after the animation finishes and before the damage is applied?

I guess Zeratul's attack blade thingy is a lot heavier (but higher damage)

Ah wow pretty cool.... Maybe BW has some kind of aging simulation program wich makes older units move slower cuz, you know, they are old and tired.
Another important issue I want to adress is the following, I see 3 DT-s, the regular Protoss Dark Temlar, Zeratul, and a third one wich I see some ppl reffer as Hero DT, wich to me is just the same as the regular dark templar, except for the name that has no "protoss" in it. In my mind the only hero DT was always Zeratul, the same as if someone sais hero Vulture I instantly think of vulture Jim... so, who is this Hero DT? could it be the dark templars we got to use in the vanilla version missions? If that's the case I think I know the reason for the difference of speed between the 2 heroes and the Protoss Dark Templar

Damn! Last year someone showed that Mutalisks bounces do damage under the swarm and now that. 20 years and you can still discover something new..

I assume they changed the dt's characteristics at some point with patches but left the single player ones because campaign didn't need balancing.

There is no way that is actual DT speed....that DT is moving WAY too fast

You don't say…

The "hero" DT is just the model that was used in the vanilla missions. When DTs were added to the game as buildable unit with BW, their stats were altered to better balance them:
  • damage: 45(+1) → 40(+3)
  • HP/shields 40/80 → 80/40
  • movement speed 4px/frame → 5px/frame (I think)

The regular DT, is moving too fast, isn't the fastest one in the middle or am i missing something? That is how it was lined up in the description

i believe all of the 'hero' units retain their 1.0 (sc)/1.04 (bw) characteristics

try racing magellan (sv hero) vs a normal science vessel - the normal science vessel should be faster in accelerating if the bw patch notes are correct

If you look in the editor, each hero is a totally distinct and separate unit from their regular unit counterpart, so changing one has no impact on the other.

the swarm application is the most useless knowledge haha. in zvz if hydras are covered by swarm it will be so extremely cost inefficient to engage... i guess it applies in zvt if you still have mutas in the late game, but the impact so tiny that you might as well just make guardians

Yes, I'm positive that is exactly the case. Both Zeratul and hero DT's have exactly the same speed as they where made from the same model for nilla missions and nothing else. When they release BW and decided to make DT's a regular unit, they just came to the conclusion adjustments had to be made in order to make them more balanced usable blah, blah (speed, dmg, upg, hp, shield). I'm kind of surprised your post seemed to go unnoticed by everyone else.
