personal opinion: unless all the players knew beforehand, giving them less than a week to prepare on a completely new map like gold rush is pretty cruel.
should've just used tau cross instead then introduced gold rush for the ro16.

Same as GSL, players are divided into four tiers depending on performances in past ASL seasons and groups are randomly drawn with one player from each tier in each group.
Larva thrown into hard group right from the start... I can't wait to see how he is gonna do in this group. He has beaten these players many many times on stream already. But on stage it is different story. I hope he will manage to advance further this ASL.

If He will advance his group, it means Light or Sea will go out, that's very terrible. Therefore, Larva and Shy should be knockouted.
Exactly one time a no-name made it into the finals, throughout all 3 qualifiers, but then got his neck snapped by Best. Would've been nice to see a new face, but Best's face is fine.
So, ASL is making some big splash about some public map contest, get hundreds of submissions, get hundreds of votes in for the final three. And then they pull out Gold Rush on very short notice, completely untested?
Would be less frustrating to see if the map had not some critical bugs that could have been easily avoided with ScmDraft 0.9... For a quick overview, I suggest you pay a shirt visit to the map thread on BWMN.
The map does not even fit in with the rest of the maps. Having this and Crossing Fields together means two maps conceptually focused on free backdoor gas expansions and super-safe expanding in general. I don't see how a map that is essentially a Central Plains reiteration will be very balanced. Maybe they are tired of Flash getting seemingly easy titles, having these two and Gladiator together almost seems like a deliberate attempt to make things hard for Terran. Maybe that's good, but I expect lots of turtle-style games.
Glad to see Larva has a chance to crush two top-tier Terrans this early on. As much as I would hate to see him drop this early, I am glad we get to see great ZvTs from day 1. Its good way to start the tournament as I don't see how Larva vs Light and possibly Sea could fail to deliver a great e-sports spectacle. Unless he completely chokes on-stage that is.

The Jungle World tileset is really getting tiresome, but I'm really diggin' the new desert map. Several groups seem pretty stacked, but I guess I'll have to cheer for zergs, FBH and Snow, which will make Group F an emotional rollercoaster.
I still don't understand the logic behind the prize pool distribution, Flash is rich enough as it is. Once again, he is the favourite to win it all and it's hard for me to imagine anyone else kissing the trophy, for now at least. Maybe the big #1 prize is a good move from a marketing standpoint, but I always put the players first, especially now, when the game is starting to restore its former glory. TBLS won't be here forever and some incentive should be created for new people to pick up the game. The top 10 are bathing in gold, the rest are begging for lunch money, seems unfair considering the hours and effort they put in.
It will be interesting to compare the total number of viewers in the ASL 4 finals with Blizzcon SC2 finals.

Workers can use mineral walk to float over egg easily. If you kill the eggs, units can pass through easily. If you kill the assimilators, the interesting properties of geysers being larger than assimilators is revealed. They are usually placed offgrid so you can't rebuild the assimilators. On Troy, for example, when you killed the assimilators only ghosts were thin enough to walk through. It's probably the same for Gold Rush, you might have to test.
The basic idea, if it's like Troy, is that you can turn bases into islands. The eggs are a weird touch that on this map allow for the assimilator blocked base to be a backyard expo, without forcing you to defend two entrances that early in the game.
In effect, players will probably take their natural normally, build a pylon or supply depot to watch their backyard entrance, and kill the assimilators when they have spare units so that it's cut off. It will also make for two entrances to think about when denying scouting.
Rude players will be able to drop the backyard expo and kill the assimilators leading to the main to prevent easy reinforcements.
Since backyards are connected to the other base's natural, if your backyard is next to your opponent's natural, you'll be able to take the backyard of the unoccupied base instead of expanding toward your opponent. Which explains the symmetry of the assimilators on both entrances of the backyard.
Group A: Sea and Light. Group B: Last and sSak/Stork. Group C: Effort and Mind. Group D: Jaedong and Hiya/Mini. Group E: Best and Mong. Group F: Too hard to tell. Hopefully FBH.
On September 06 2017 00:46 iamho wrote: How do the egg blocks on Gold Rush work, are they only passable by workers? What happens if you kill the eggs or the assimilators?
Initially the small mineral patches (24 each) allow workers to pass through the eggs. Scarabs can pass between eggs and Assimilators. All other units are blocked (but can theoretically be glitched through by methods such as worker stacking, burrow stacking, Mine glitching, Lurker morphing or Archon warping right next to the eggs).
If bot Assimilators are destroyed, but not the eggs, even scarabs are blocked.
If the Eggs are both killed, with the Assimilators intact, all units can path through.
If one Assimilator is killed, big units (tile-sized and bigger, i.e. all factory units, (D)Archons, Goons, Reavers, Lurkers and Ultras) are blocked.
If both Assimilators are destroyed, only Ghosts can fit through.
Destroyed Assimilators cannot be rebuilt (neither can Extractors or Refineries be constructed on the depleted geyser, obviously).

Placement relative to grid (or rather relative to each other) only determines the width of the gap for the different stages (both intact, one destroyed, both destroyed). What makes them unbuildable is the (mostly) unwalkable tile below the top right edge of the geyser. There is also a trick to make geysers selectively unbuildable for Zerg only, by putting unwalkable tiles just below the centre of the geyser.
Group A: Sea, Larva Group B: Last, Stork Group C: Effort, Mind Group D: Jaedong, Hiya Group E: Best, Rain Group F: FBH, Hero
FBH will probably get stomped, but I'd just love to see him advance. I really hope Hiya makes it out of his group as well, have recently been watching some of his games from ~2010 and he was soo sick back then.

Group A: Sea, Light. (Both solid, Larva wont be able to take on both) Group B: Last, Stork (As long as Stork practices hard, he will make it) Group C: Effort, Mind (Hoping for Rush, saw him in qualifiers, he seemed so strong) Group D: Jaedong, Hiya (Obvious ones, others just barley made it) Group E: Best, Ample (underrated for sure) Group F: Shuttle, by.hero (FBH doesnt seem as solid, his builds where rather sloppy in qualifiers)

You can watch sunday games live no?
Also interesting that they moved to 3 days/week instead of the old 2. Guess they want to speed things up, which is fine by me. Just means more sleepless nights per week haha
Larva has a true test to his ZvT, Light is going to give him hard time. Stork has a chance to get out group as 2nd place, Last being first, although never count sSak out. JD has easiest group. Best should make it out too. FBH seems like dead, group is pretty tough: Snow, hero and Shuttle - all of them can make out.

Group A: Larva is probably the best ZvTer right now, seriously? While Sea is solid, Light is far from being in good form besides there is only one zerg who is incredibly strong in this group so no luck for Light, no. Group B: "Stork practices hard" is more a meme joke Group C: Agree, Mind looked good on streams. Group D: man, this group is tough. JD, Sharp, Mini. I doubt Hiya but he is magic carp for a reason. Group E: Rain he has a very strong PvT, others dunno, haven't seen their streams Group F: Agree

Why does everyone think JD has the easiest group. Two good TvZers and very annoying Mini who is not a walkover for sure. I would say that JD has all the chances to be out if he is not careful.

So about Larva. I think he has a hair of a chance go to through. Sea doesn't practice a lot but he knows how to kick it down with the best. Light has been amazing for months now. It's something quite scary given that he has a full-time job I think.
STORK AND FBH FTFW!!!!!!
Lol @ above
Jaedong vs Magikarp lol, bring out the drums.
EffOrt vs Lazy. A match for humanity. I think EffOrt will win that easy.

AfreecaTV Live on Youtube uploads pretty quickly both the Korean and English casts. Just don't get spoiled.
Who opens liquibets for these? I already want to bet on them, but sometimes I'll miss because the liquibets get opened like a few days before and I'm not on TL every day.
I don't really think there's such a thing as an easy group among these. For me, predicting grp A and F was the hardest though, where I can imagine a scenario for all 4 going through in various combinations. For example in group A, if Light can avoid a TvP his chances rise considerably.
A: Larva, Sky B: Last, Stork C: Effort, Mind D: Jaedong, Mini E: Best, Rain F: Shuttle, hero

Me too.
Crossing Field is only marco map, everyone takes 3 base easily and marco 200 supply to attack to win. If anyone attacks in the first game, they will be disadvantage.

10-4. Tastosis will be casting the Ro24 on Twitch and Afreeca, FlashFTW and I will be on the ENG2 stream on Afreeca (couldn't convince the AfreecaTV team to let us stream on Twitch due to licensing agreements).
Hey came about this guy's youtube video talking about the ASL4 Qualifier stages where he gives a bit of insight to the players who made it through, some of the older players who didn't qualify, and touches a bit on why jangbi didn't come to the qualifiers. www.youtube.com

Stork beat him in their last couple of spons and he just went 4-1 against Rush on ASL maps. I think he can do beat sSak. That doesn't mean he's out of the group of course...

Looks like 910 updated his blog updated with this version.
No. That is a different update that changes some terrain (most importantly fixes 5 o'clock min-only tankability from 3 o'clock 3rd – lol, another of those things that the map maker should have checked beforehand – ScmDraft 2.0.9 even has range indicators for units now, so ignorance really has ceased to be a viable excuse). The gas mining issue at red's main is also fixed, though probably just coincidently due to pathing region generation butterfly effect, but the ramps are still buggy as hell.
I'll copy my fixed ramps over to this version later tonight and will try to send it to 910 directly.
EDIT2: Sent these, as well as bugfixed updates of Tau Cross and Fighting Spirit to 910. So hopefully the improvement will be "official" soon.
EDIT3: Seems like he got my mail and forwarded it to the map makers. I got an answer from Waldstein (maker of Crossing Fields) and sent him a more comprehensive bug report and documentation.
EDIT4: Gold Rush has been updated to 0.99, incorporating my changes (with some modifications), some slight changs to terrain as well as some improvements to mining (though still not perfect). So yeah! Success! I guess.
EDIT5: removed my own DLs. With official updates done or pending, better every one got the newest official versions.
EDIT6: Crossing Fields 1.33 with various terrain updates is now officially available on Naver.
Really bad news everyone, it seems like Sea is disqualified from the tournament and will be replaced by Killer. The reason for Sea's disqualification was due to some controversy regarding "playful" hitting or violence on a female guest live on stream. He's been suspended temporary for a few days by Afreeca from streaming and it seems like he's also been disqualified from the ASL tournament due to fear of bad publicity by Afreeca. It has been confirmed by Light's manager and by Bisu and Larva on stream.
Sea disqualified? No way! He had big chances of going far in this... Any details about this incident? "Playful hitting"? What does this even mean? Sexual conotation?

i understand that this is bad news but well lets be honest not for "everyone" its good news for killer and his fans
I'm so happy Larva won, I really hope he makes it out of this group. One of my favorite players and I think he's really strong right now as long as he can shake off those live match nerves!
I guess this happens because the Discussion button below the streams links to this thread and not the the group discussion threads. Suggesting either a disclaimer at the top or changing the links.
For the matches: Group D is not happinging on 17-09-2017 - instead it is done at 20-09-2017 (see e.g.: http://www.afreecatv.com/aslenglish as a source) - probably it has been shifted - why, I don't know.
