It's interesting. I only wanted higher resolution sprite work, and I got that plus shininess and some colour differences. And I think most of it would look perfect without the shininess, and more emphasis on the shadows instead.
Honestly I think the first time I watched, there were definitely some units like probes, zerglings, hydras, seige mode tanks that I thought 'ew, that needs to be fixed.' But looking at it again days later, it's already grown on me a little more.
I think the most jarring thing are the brighter colours and highlights that weren't there before. And it's definitely a nitpick only BW players who didn't play much SC2 are going to notice much. Basically, the zerglings in the original were almost all their team colour with some dark shadows. In the new version the team colour is brighter and there's some tan highlights of the zergling's hide.
The drone's shadow is lower than it used to be, giving it more of a floating look.
The buildings feel more shiny, like it is noon on a cloudless day.
Probes look a hair too large and too shiny, but otherwise are perfect.
Cannons in particular I would prefer the rings be gradually more depressed, so those lines aren't as sharp.
Marine and medic suits are too shiny, making them just slightly hard to look at.
Yeah, basically super nitpicks and stuff I know I would get used to if I played a lot, but I think are worth fixing up a little. There's no real dramatic changes needed. The Nexus is perfect, if you want an example of one of the few buildings I don't think looks really shiny.
Most of the game just looks super good to be honest. Just need an option to turn of sheen lol.
PS: I don't think it's wrong at all the people talk about how the graphics surprised them, negatively or not. But I do suggest everyone take a few looks at it over the course of the week to try to mentally comprehend what the actual changes are. There is a kind of optical illusion they're going for with the shininess that I don't like, to give them a more 3d look, but a lot of us are okay with high resolution 2D, and it's what we were expecting, so it ends up being kind of an unwelcome cheat that doesn't quite look right. And as I understand it looking at the posts in this thread, the units and buildings people liked are the ones that don't have that weird shine to them, like the high templar.

Hey guys don't gripe about graphic changes in a 'graphical gripes' thread ay :^)

I agree with most things listed:
- contrast and saturation are off in many places, not always for the better (bright blue minerals are my personal pet peave right now)
- Everything needs better lighting/gloss effects, too many rather dim surfaces (morphing Zerg buildings look particularly bad, I think)
- details seem yet to be missing in many places, doubly bad with higher resolution
- player colours definitely should be a bit more pronounced (cover more areas), at least for terran units:
On March 28 2017 03:06 st4ck0v3rfl0w wrote:I think most things are exceptionally well done and most players will feel no difference after one or two days. There is however some regression in the visibility of units, which I hope will be fixed. This one seems to be especially bad: ![[image loading]](http://www.teamliquid.net/staff/lichter/SCR/MarineHD.jpg) I don't know why they made the tilesets so noisy. IMHO the contrast of the details should be smaller
- on a related note: terrain details and contrasts have probably been cranked up a bit too much , which is why units do not pop out so nicely any more. Making the terrain lighter in general does not help either. Some things (like the cliffs) look more painted now, not sure why – most likely simply because they actually are, and it comes out better in higher resolution...
However, I think most things are probably still work in progress, and they're definitely on the right path.

Tanks seeming tiny also instantly struck me. I felt their body should be a tad longer. I would prefer to keep water/creep static as it is now, to distract as little as possible.
Both are represented by static terrain tiles, anyway, so you cannot easily change much except for palette cycles, just like water works right now (or doesn't, under newer Windows versions...).
SCV mining sparks being too big is another thing that also really stood out to me. For arguments sake, I actually rather like the more bluish Protoss building explosion...

Nothing is ever fucking good enough, lol Obvioulsy you have a problem distinguishing (constructive!) criticism from "whining". Complaining about a community whilst spreading poisonous vitriol like this is just hypocrisy.

You guys are the worst community hahahaha! It's was never meant to be a brand spanking new game. It was suppose to be a simple update to better resolutions. No longer will the game feel like a gameboy video game.
The matchmaking/lat/binds/anti hacks ect ect.. are the cherry on top.
Honestly surprised how many of you guys are complaining about a high resolution starcraft. Holy crap! lol. Are you serious?
Sitting here and judging every aspect of the game is setting yourself up for huge disappointment when it's actually released. If you really don't care or appreciate the resolution update then you can always stick to the old school graphics set up. That is probably why they made it possible for players to play between those 2 platforms. You are right, why would any one care and go that last step to actually get the polish on. Instead let's focus on the important things and just put a coloured square in for the units...

My only gripe is that it seems like the smaller units like marines and zerglings are harder to see now. That gives you a considerable disadvantage when playing with the HD skins.

overall zerg units are too skeletony..
we can prettu much read the polygons

To be fair, it has always been quite difficult to make out, say, brown zerglings on a brown map.

Brown shouldn't spawn on brown maps. White shouldn't spawn on white maps. Green shouldnt spawn on jungle maps.

if I would write a little remark based on the P base image on starcraft.com, the new templar while it looks good the movement is a little more bouncy and less subtle than original, like his clothes bounce more, the body moves up and down more, also the energy on his forehead is less noticeable from most angles. In original the movement is more subtle across the body and the energy on his forehead comes more in focus and moves more.. just a different feeling^^ they are pretty close but I think the subtle movement is good feels like templar original is ready to cast but in control and focusing on his psionic energy, its one of the nicest looking unit in the game imo, including when it moves dark archon also I think the feeling in original he seems to come out of the center more massive and dark red energy emerging from him, in new its like sitting back a bit, idk lol but seriously lot of these graphics are really good for example the new probe I think it looks interesting at first I was like "woot why the sharpness" but now I look at them Im like hey I think I like them like this, also the nexus and buildings feel rly nice I think for example the pylon I think its better than original, it has a bit more pointy sightly less massive shape and better colors, the details on the nexus come out better the new zealot I think is great just I think someone said earlier, his psionic link is curved back further from his body, I like better in original how its curved closer to back, but why?? feel less vulnerable and solid figure in original for this detail I guess? at the same time its one of the details that probably couldnt really come out in the low resolution so it makes sense to draw different now. but seriously it looks good, the goon too though Im curious to see more animation when standing^^ just one of the subtle animations in original half machine half alive. ofc everything doesnt need to be exactly the same lol seriously its all quite very good pretty exciting want to see how it progresses things like shading and stuff later I guess? less 'plastic' 'shine' or 'polish' on some things and more subtle yet 'integral' movement on some things? and shades?
at the same time the original game is pretty dark. there are so many ways to do it. I think they have done great job so far pretty sure im buying^^ havent bought anything blizzard since diablo 3 came out o_o

Except it's still months off + trailers almost always use months old footage.
So most of these gripes probably aren't even an issue.

While I think some concerns are legit, others seem like extreme nitpicking. All we saw was a trailer and several screenshots yet the OP contained like a gazillion gripes lol. I realize this is the gfx contructive feedback thread but it does seem excessive to me especially when you are making debatable-y silly points like: Not all cliffs look.. sharp enough? Zerg eggs are too yellow Hydralisk Den pulsates a little too hard Interceptors seem a little too big Ghost model looks a little plain at the moment/needs to be cooler etc...
I agree that some units need a bit more distinguish-ion. In particular, tanks, vultures and marines (for outline) at least but I think that's also the map's fault in some places. Making zerg buildings feel on creep instead of floating above (sunken for ex) and maybe playing with the contrast/colors overall isn't a bad idea. I don't know what Blizzard's plans are but they could potentially release more videos/screenshots to gauge the reaction and I'm hoping they do so as well. What I've personally found is that if you give it a couple of days, the units will grow on you and I think that will happen for most of the gripes in the thread outside the major ones.

And hey, that's fine, you're free to guess... just don't presume to be infallibly right, or that you can tell everyone else what to say or think.
But, if you really feel the need, you can start your own "LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE!!!" -style thread in regards to Remastered, lol.

It looks like they're trying to feminize Remastered, just like they did with SC2. The Dragoon seem to be worst off so far
What would you say if the zealots were prancing around and giving no fucks?
Femininely manly

I think they posted something about it on official forums. Found it. "We'll have the Mac Beta out with 1.18.0 on Thursday. A few of the engineers went above and beyond to get it ready. Hope you and our other Mac users can log some serious hours to help with smoking out any bugs."
