Usually seen as a prime opportunity for up and coming domestic artists to promote their new content, the OSL, MSL and PL finals have been used as a venue over the years of professional Brood War. Once again, this season's SSL is no exception with Korea's most famous solo singer 'IU' taking the stage at Jamsil's Student Gymnasium.
Let's take a look at past performances. Performances without a video will be accompanied by a short written piece.
mycube OSL - Cherry Filter The first ever musician to perform at an OSL final, Jamsil's Baseball Stadium saw Korea's most popular female-led rock band, Cherry Filter, perform as part of their promotions of their newly released album 'The Third Eye'.
NHN Hangame OSL - Chae-yeon Seoul Olympic Park's Gymnasium saw new sensation Chae-yeon perform at the finals after a stint in Japan, promoting her new album 'It's My Time', featuring the title track '위험한 연출' (Dangerous Act) which propelled her popularity through out Korea.
Gillette OSL - Hot Potato Hot Potato, a punk rock group performed at this OSL final located at EXCO in Daegu. I don't really know much about them.
Shinhan 2006 Season 3 OSL - Epik High and Baby VOX Re. V Over two years since having a musical performance at the OSL finals, OGN decided to have not one but two musicians perform at Seoul Olympic Park's Gymnasium. Epik High broke out into the mainstream Korean music scene with their album 'Swan Songs' and performed as part of their promotions of their new album 'Remapping the Human Souls' notable songs like Fan, Flow and Love, Love Love. Baby VOX Re was a newly created girl group that was dubbed as the successor of the old-school K-pop girl group, Baby VOX. Unlike the other girl groups debuting at the time like Wonder Girls and KARA, Baby VOX Re. V provided a more mature style of music, with their hit single being 'Shee'.
EVER 2007 OSL - Crying Nut A famous punk band considered the godfathers of the genre in Korea, Crying Nut was responsible for the 2002 World Cup theme for Korea. Crying Nut performed as part of promoting their new single 'Hello Whale' at KINTEX in Incheon.
Edit: I know there was another finals played at the same venue in (1) where G-na performed. I'm pretty sure it was the Starleague finals where Jaedong 4-pooled Flash twice in a row, but that was in Shanghai. Perhaps I just went to an outdoor stream of that for fans in Seoul?
But man, just goes to show how long ago it was that all these performances happened. Those Girl's Day and Kara members aren't even in the group anymore, IU performing Marshmallow, SNSD performing Kissing You, and back when Chae Yeon was active.
I still remember the first ever live event I went to was the OSL finals in the aircraft hanger with Secret. At the time I thought they were amazing, but watching the performance again was kind of disappointing. Perhaps it was just nostalgia.

OGN Showmatch Jaedong vs Flash, 2019
Quite painful to watch if you ask me...
Yeah wow, that's awkward as fuck, all of the performers look very unenthusiastic and it's like they're not even trying to pretend to make miming to a backing track seem like a real performance.
