SC1 APM TRAINER stabel: v1.04 latest:Alpha-v1.05
SC1 APM Trainer is a trainer I developed so I could practice Starcraft at work. Basically, it is a non graphical version of the game where you can practice your hand mechanics during your free time. I personally have a ton of fun with it and thought it was far enough along that I'd finally share it. Please feel free to leave comments/suggestions/bugs. If demand is high enough I can add graphics to this trainer. Merry Christmas!

Bugs/Polls/Misc
I will definitely get to all of these!
Suggestions from posters: - Add Control group customization - add to control group #' (shift+#) - create a pro mode that uses character visuals instead of reading descriptions as suggested so both can be used. Reading descriptions for abilities and upgrades is where I really felt the benefit, but for experienced players definitely need to amp it up. -added - F keys for macro so you could throw in like: f2 mx5 (for f2 mmmmm) or f2 z for using macro hatches. - Mouse clicking is something I felt was severely missed, but I had not come up with an intelligent way to implement it. I want to add a box area for precision clicking in the future too. This is a feature that will come, but will require careful thought.
Bugs to fix
control group mode: it considers ctrl+# a correct response to select control group # fixed

Could you by chance post the source code on github?

In my opinion, the number 1 thing on your to-do list should be to allow control group customisation.
|
Thanks for uploading! I don't really understand game mode control groups though. The only thing I see appearing is the eapm meter, no control group command has any effect afaik.

I can fix that now.

edit: Added ctrl group fix! Sorry i cared more about protoss

Follow up on control group mode: it considers ctrl+# a correct response to select control group #, in addition to create control group #. Also, there are no 'add to control group #' (shift+#), would that be an idea to include?
edit: Thanks for the quick fix

The second point I would like to add as an advanced feature with what the poster above suggested about customizing ctrl groups, but definitely it should be added in.

So silly to deploy tanks before researching siege tech.
But it was smart to have extended sequences as well as smorgasbords.
|
Thanks for posting this! I'll definitely check it out when I get home today
|
Whoa, definitely will have to use this. Thanks~
If you decide to post the code, I am looking forward to seeing it!

This thing is really awesome for theory! I can learn beside mine other races too. I hope there are no bugs. Keep updating!

Is it possible to change the score screen? Sometimes when I'm busy reacting as fast as I can, I want to push a button exactly when the time's up and I end up at the main menu without knowing what my score was. I'd imagine changing 'press any key' to 'press enter' would suffice.
Sorry for being so demanding ):
|
Wow amazing, must try when I get home, thanks !

Sorry for being so demanding ): Rofl. That bothers me too now that you mention it. I always just went to check the high scores pages. I'll fix that shortly.
edit: Fixed it and updated link.

I tried it now thanks anyways, it wasn't what I thought but really nice job very creative. Some bugs in the actual game mode when I was trying to build spawning pool , hotkey for B wasn't working for some reason then game started flickering and glitched out. will be streaming this game for a few hours to show how its done.
EDIT : hmm I was going pretty fast and it said I only have 10 apm .. i'm newb :O

This is really cool and has potential to be AMAZING, thank you.
One suggestion just from a few minutes aside from custom hot keys is to use the actual letters and numbers instead of words. In a real game you use visual ques to decide what buttons to press. Replacing that with reading descriptions of what is going on really fast I think is a hindrance. Instead of "Select Control Group 6", "Hatchery Unit Select", and "Build Ultralisk." It simply said: "6su". Players will know what these combos stand for but more importantly it will allow people to get used to doing the key sequences fast without getting hung up on reading the words (something that you never have to do in a real game).
Also some people use the F keys for macro so you could throw in like: f2 mx5 (for f2 mmmmm) or f2 z for using macro hatches.
Another thing would be to add a button press or mouse click if possible into 1a2a3a sequences to ensure that you don't train the timing incorrectly.
This could become really incredible though, thanks . I think custom hotkeys are really important though.

2. I felt like the f keys were very lacking. You finally gave a suggestion that will add great value!

edit: control group mode: it considers ctrl+# a correct response to select control group # fixed You can only use the ctrl key when commanded to now.

Very cool!
Any chance you might add a full screen mode, with larger and centered text?
