I don't get how you did that. Get close to the mine then use attack command? The gif is really nice though

It's cool that DT can do it without being hurt but pretty useless in a real game =_=

+ without allied vision you can't target the mine before reaching it. I guess obs would make up for that.

UMMMMMMMM.......

Nobody gets how the zlot bomb really went?

If you look closely, a group of zealots advanced on the tank and semi surrounding them. 2 zlots went to the bottom/left part and attracted 3 or so mines to them. Just before those mines blow up however, those zealot got killed by vultures.
The mines were thus attracted into the tank clutter but reburrowed.
It then got attracted again (new target nearby) by the zealots in the middle of the tank clutter.
Those mines flew into the middle of the tank clutter and blew up the entire tank field.

Look closely O_O

It looks like he walks the dt until it's just out of reach of the mine, then walks it in and pushes hold position at the perfect time to stop the dt exactly (with the delay in mind) beside the mine giving it just enough time to slash it.

Looks cool. I'm going to try this out myself.

Seems he just placed the dt close enough so that it was in aggressive range. Not to be confused with attack range, we all know dts are melee units with no range. I don't know what it's actually called, but I'm calling it aggressive range here. It's when an enemy unit gets too close so your unit follows it and tries to kill it (unless your unit is in hold position). What My_Digital_Toss did was get the dt close enough with the mine so the dt would attack the mine on its own. Notice how after the dt gets close to the mine, no extra actions are ordered. The reason he kept pressing stop prior to the dt moving in to kill the mine was because he didn't want the dt to get too close, causing the mine to set off. I'm guessing the range of a mine setting off and the aggressive range of dts are pretty similar, so some precision is needed.

How do you get the idea of 'hold position' being involved?
He just moves towards the mine step by step until it attacks.
Should be useful sometimes, but normally you either don't have observers yet (dt rush) or you actually _want_ the mine to go off (later in the game).

Look closely, he never clicks on the mine. Notice how the "stop" button is pressed. He walks just in range of the dt's auto attack and hits "stop" so then the dt automatically goes after the mine without triggering it first. This obviously wouldn't work with multiple mines that are close enough to each other though, which is often the case.

Am I right?

Nope, patrol it is never hit. What the video shows is what was said above, he puts the templar close enough that it automatically switch from the 'stop' position to 'attack' without direct command from the player.

T_T afaik i invented the dt vs mines 3 years ago when i was in POS. I actually had a UMS to practice it on, bejjang kept telling me i was wasting my time, but i thought it was fun

Always wanted to win a game by using dts/obs vs mines in a tv match but i never had the opportunity.

You will notice that attacking from a diagonal position, mines pop up a lot earlier, but not from directly on the side, or if the dts a fraction above it. There is also a way to do it with attacking the mines.

Pretty useless if there are multiple mines around :S

hmm my favourite is dt surviving 3mines hit,i did it 100+ times, but this dt killings mines...i did it once on bladestorm,i just sent my dt to his exp and on his way there he had to pass mine field, strangely when a mine ran onto him he simply killed it. we didn't share vision,i didn't have obs to c the minefield,or w.e so guess my dt used hax! perhaps i did it more times but didn't notice. i'm not sure how does dt manage to kill the mine before it hits him, could be the angle or w.e

i think you can do it with spead zealot +2 ups
imo it can be good in very late game, when both sides almost killed each other

It's possible without vision, however, you can't set it up without knowing where the mine is.

If you dt rush, and you make it to their natural, and they try to fight off your harrass with mines, you'll know exactly where every mine is.

If you can do it without vision, I don't see how this WOULDN'T be useful

Terrans usually spread mines in luna for example. They put their first 3 mines in a row. Using this after getting hit once can get you a very good advantage.

have you seen when toss players use 2 goons to kill mines without observers by constantly hitting attack, stop, attack, stop. This causes the goons to move only a little bit untill the mine pops up, then the goon will have enough time to shoot it be4 it goes off

if you're getting obs you might as well get a shuttle and dt drop first in most cases i think. i can definitely see this being useful after a DT drop though, following up with obs to slash mines to delay terran's recovery

Actually if you know the enemy laid mines outside but you don't know exactly where you can still see a tiny little discoloration when a unit is burrowed. lings, lurkers, anything. Just have to look really hard.
..and then I would, ya know, check em'. (Aka SpoR)

Regardless you would need vision, otherwise your dt won't go after it. The whole trick is that the dt automatically attacks the mine before it triggers it.

I have done the dt thing before on a 1v1. The spider mine seems to delay switchign directions at some points and DT strikes first.
I dont know how to do it consistenly though, and its probably a waste of time

You don't need vision. You need the proper angle and have to give attack command and the right timing.

I suppose you could practice for a million years and make it into another standard micro gimmick, but terrans would simply put 2 mines on top of each other etc.

I've tried looking really really really hard but I couldn't see it like with a lurker. Can someone screen shot a piece of ground before and after putting like a lurker there then use the differennce command to see if theres any difference between the 2 pics??

you probably won't see it in a messy tile (dirt, grass w/e) You will see it in a clean tile like instalation. ever played the ums laser tag w/ lings? you'll know what I mean. or paintball for that matter.

It's possible without vision, however, you can't set it up without knowing where the mine is.

Fun trick, useless in a real game.

How would you do it without vision?

Actually if you know the enemy laid mines outside but you don't know exactly where you can still see a tiny little discoloration when a unit is burrowed. lings, lurkers, anything. Just have to look really hard.

Oh thats too bad. I was hoping to counter hold lurkers by staring very hard at dirt terrain lol. It would look too hackish anyway and you'd get alot of accusations of hack T_T

I invented it on my own two year ago when my PvT build was always :
10 : gas
12: gate
15? core
...
the both robo and citadel about the same time
and up to 2 gateways afterwards -> up to a 4 dt drop with observer
With 10 gas you have enough to build all and even a dragoon or two would fit in
Too bad vs 2 fact vult, but then I can to builing blocking the ramp with only pylon if there was great danger.
Only trick attacking the mines from horisontal or vertical position, nothing else.
