Why do you want a 4:3 monitor? You can make it so there's black bars on the sides on a widescreen so that BW keeps its aspect ratio. Unless you are talking about getting a crt for the better response time.

Well, the BW is in 640x480 resolution natively, so if you're playing with windowed mode but want to have an illusion of a fullscreen, here are the steps:

1. Right click on your Chaoslauncher (or ICCup launcher) icon -> Properties.

2. Select "Run in 640x480 screen resolution" under Compatibility tab.

3. Run Chaoslauncher (or ICCup launcher) in Window Mode.

4. Position your StarCraft window perfectly so it aligns on all 4 sides of your screen (it takes little practice to position the top of the window, but it's pretty simple. Click on the red line and pull it up until you don't see red line anymore. If the sides are not aligned perfectly you won't be able to scroll with mouse in one or more direction while in game).

5. Use Alt + F1 to lock your cursor inside StarCraft window, so you can scroll normally in game. (you only have to do this once).

With this workaround your desktop resolution will change to 640x480 everytime you start Chaoslauncher (after you exit Chaoslauncher, your Desktop Resolution will revert to your original one without messing up your icons!).

You could also just set your resolution to 800x600 manually, then BW window will be big enough to play on, but it won't cover the whole screen. Also, if your resolution is bigger than 960 pixels in height, then you can play in the x2 windowed mode (Alt + F9 shortcut).

It's shift+f keys to save camera location just in case it wasn't a typo Never had your problem though. The biggest issue I get when playing broodwar is that spamming control groups + mouse commands laggs (IE if I spam 123123 it works fine, but if I go 1 right click 2 click 3 click it doesn't register the control group change). I might as well take advantage of this thread to get a potential solution!

It's shift F2, not CTRL F2.

Don't know if it helps, but my layout is the following:

1, 2, 3 - Army
4, 5 - Main and natural nexus
6 - Robotics
7 - Starport
8, 9, 0 - I should probably use them too

F2 - Save camera on gateways
F3 - Save camera on third
F4 - Save camera on gateways rally point

i think the best is:
4 nexus 5-0 gateway, 1-3 units, later 1-4, 5and 6 too for units if needed.
use hotkeys for tech buildings too as long as you have free buttons for them. like 0 robo or starport, etc. same can go for second nexus if there is not that many gateway yet.
F2 natural F3 main nexus and later change that to 3rd base. this way you will cover all your nexuses and will always have f keys to transfer probes while still being able to use F4 as rally point

bisu uses 4 nexus, 5-6-7-8 gateway and tech buildigs, 1-3 units but once he took the nat and/or has obs, he changes to:
4 nexus 5 obs! 6-9 gateway (he doesnt use 0 probably due to small hands?), units 1-3 and later 1-5.
he covers all 3 nex with the 3 F keys. for rally point, he goes to his nat nex and slides the screen a bit.

I thought the thread was solved by my last post. Mirroring Bisu's hotkey setup exactly may not benifit the mechanics of your hand. But Day9 does a great job of walking through the variations that allow you to play comfortably and effectively at the same time. Really worth listening to. Thank NinaZerg for showing this to me.

heres my Layout

0 - First nexus, 9, 8.
4,5,6,7,8,9,0 = Gateway
1234567890 = Army

Using 098 for nexus is most common, its easy to build probes with becase its so close to the p button. 0p9p8p and you get 3 probes in production.

read the title and was thinking about leaving the reply, "you need to hit control + a number, example: ctrl+1. this will hotkey whatever you selected to that number". I then realized who opened the topic and now I just shake my head

Is anything similar to "the Core" for SC2 possible for Brood War? Or does that require significant programming efforts that noone will be willing to put in?

Most people consider it hacking, to use hotkey modifications, as it gives you an unfair advantage over someone who doesn't use hotkey modifications. I personally don't care one way or another, either it has widespread acceptance or it doesn't. If it doesn't get accepted though, then don't do it.

It's not hard at all.

It requires 3rd party software and is generally considered hacking.

KESPA for instance didn't allow it.

I usually bind 1 to Nexus, 2 to second Nexus, 3 for units/scout, 4-5-6 to gateways and 0 to Robotics. Once I have a natural and later a third I use F2/F3/F4 for each location and use 1-5 for units. Once I stop probe-production i move my locations-hotkeys so I have F2 at my gateways, F3 at my rallypoint and F4 at either tech-buildings (forges, archive etc) or a second main base to produce more gates there or similar. Works good for me, although it all comes down to personal preferences. If I get a lot of units off two bases I only use location-hotkeys on probes use 1-3/4/5 for units.

I'm only a D level on iccup but this is my general structure. Works well enough at my level
F2 -> buildings, F3 -> expansion, close to second nexus for rallying, F4 -> new location to rally
0-4 -> units
5,6,7 -> nexus(find it easier early on to use these than camera locations to make workers and such)
8,9,0 -> other things lol.
I'll eventually make 5 for arbiters(or hts) late game, etc...

right shift 9 and 0

I like this man's thinking.

My P hotkey setup is

1234 - Units
5 - Middle of the first Clump of Gateways
6 - Middle of the second Clump of Gateways/Robotic Facility/StarGate clumps.
7 - Middle of the third clump of Gatways/Robotic Facility/StarGate clumps.
8 - Third Nexus
9 - Second Nexus
0 - First Nexus
Usually main base mined out by the time I take a fourth so I just shuffle the hotkeys into the next nexus.

You want to have your nexus at 8, 9, and 0 because it is close to P (probe production).

Nexus at 4/5 etc is perfectly fine and is super common among Korean pros ie Bisu. Some like Kal and Nony even used 1 for Nexus.

In the end though, it all comes down to what works for you.

Early game I do 0 nexus, 1 scouting probe, 56789 gates, 1234 units. Pretty basic and easy, just like the protoss race

Oh God, within day after returning he is beginning to follow the footsteps of great man lol.

As side note, I'm surprised this bug hasn't shown up in any of the Kespa games. I guess pros discovered it during practice and took extravprecaution to prevent it.

That's one reason why having 098 as nexus is better. You never have to un-hotkey them
