Not many new blood, and competition level is low, so those older gamers can still hang around. There's plenty of new blood in SC2 atm. Hell, one just broke out in the past few weeks (Sora). In fact, I would say that there are too many players and teams in the scene right now, so we should keep an eye out for more going down. There are how many teams in KR atm? 15 (incl. Axiom and EG-TL)? Too many for the scene to sustain. If STX and WJS and maybe Prime go down, then we'll be looking at a much more sustainable 12.

Arguably worse than STX (probably around as bad) the last time I researched their situations. Also in lots of debt and one of their subsidiaries filed for bankruptcy, iirc.

Sorry for the bad news. :x In addition to everything lichter said, WJ is also dealing with financial fraud: http://www.globalpost.com/dispatch/news/yonhap-news-agency/130807/woongjin-group-chief-stand-trial-over-massive-financial-fr-0

Looks like you don't know how many kids were trying to get into pro teams back in bw days. Number of teams doesn't exactly reflect the talent pool from amateur kids.

I began to follow this fearless protoss player on his journey. I watched him stumble, and being the flawed human I am, began to wonder if he was really the hero I imagined. With the emergence of sc2 it appeared the end of bw was nearing. The statues of legends were being placed in the sc pantheon while the bw warriors were preparing for their final battles. Who would emerge the ultimate champion, who would write the last chapter, and would the forces of good or the forces of evil prevail? Jaedong and flash would shrug off their defeats, and it appeared that a jester, a destructive terrorist with no concept of reality, would be the last player standing. But Jangbi was on a mission. Not driven by power or greed but by the desire to show the people that good exists, and that in the end, it will triumph. Jangbi fought his way to the finals, destroying those who stood in the way of true justice. When he ran out of energy to storm, it seemed the units themselves came to life and fought for him. Jangbi became champion, and when the forces of evil rearmed for the following season, Jangbi would defeat them again in even more impressive fashion. Following the final starleagues, I was reluctant to join the warriors of bw as they moved into the sc2 realm, but I would not abandon Jangbi as he adjusted to the new world. I watched him develop and once again began to see shimmers of the almighty forces within him. I was excited to see his current form, to see if he would dominate yet again. And so I was saddened and confused by his retirement on the eve of a prestigious tournament. Jangbi's retirement makes me feel alone and lost in the land of esports. It makes me question: how am I still going to be way to into this stuff? And: Why would he leave us now? First off, it's a boss move and Jangbi's a total boss, but it's also because like obi-wan kenobi, Jangbi is not consumed by power and recognition but by his passion to do the right thing. Jangbi accomplished his mission and fulfilled his legacy. The battle between good and evil will always rage on, and Jangbi realizes its time for him to step aside. Jangbi would not leave us if he thought justice was in jeopardy, and so his departure should bring us fans who feel lost a little bit of comfort, and give us faith, that a new hope will emerge.

Just because the number's lower than it was in BW days doesn't mean it's anywhere close to drying up.

(if he does) Reach has competed in one I think, none of the recent champions have for sure (since they were all kespa contracted), but some of the older champs have probably competed (dunno if Garimto has competed, but he'd be a possibility, basically look for people from that kinda of era, pre oov/nada). edit: apparently Anytime has also competed in an SRT, reach was only in some kind of legends match though.

To me, what it really means: more possible talent incoming to SOSPA! Sorry to those that enjoyed his SC2 games, but I'm sure it's fairly exciting news to some of us. I hear Jaehoon is out as well? Prospect of two of my favourite Protosses possibly playing BW again: sweet!

But no one can match the popularity and influences of the old BW big names.
