I mean we are essentially the smallest scene here, as TL represents mainly central Europe and the US, we host the least events. (russians have regular defiler, chinese have tons of events) and this site dedicates 95% (roughly) of its resources to other games. No i really can't fathom why ppl don't know TL. Seriously: TL stopped being the center of foreign BW some time ago. Yes we should work to change this again, but that's the way it is. Hosting the TLS is a very good start though. TL BW is not smaller as a sum community over the Russian and or Spanish communites.

I think having custom hotkeys is just fine; it's not like they make too much of a big difference, besides it will attract more players.
What can NEVER happen is to implement bullshit mechanics like automining, multiple building selection and unlimited control groups.

It's so absurd to have smart casting that I even forgot about that shit.

protoss already has smartcasting
mind control xd

I introduced BW to not a small number of people, they seem to like it but in the end most of them are like "nah man this is too hardcore for me". Friends with who i was playing at my childhood, also dont want to return cuz they have to put so much effort to build good mechanics for decent play. At first(when sc2 was out) i was stubborn just like you, but now i think this will be good for BW.

But if bw had all those features, why would anyone still want to play it when you can switch to sc2, which offers better graphics, prettier interface, arguably nicer bnet and tons more active players?

Modern standards do not mean better standards though.
In my opinion having too easy controls is one of the reasons SC2 suffers from the deathball syndrome.

Imagine trying to balance zerg with 50 mutas micro or zerg can control 100 lings with one hotkey....... Lol
The point is blizz didn't realize changing the mechanics also had a huge effect in balance... Something you're missing too.
|
Imagine being able to select 50 Dark Archons and only needing to press a few buttons on the keyboard, each once, to mind control 50 battle cruisers. Now that would be scary.
|
there is only one "improvement" i'd like to see in BW, and that is a defuse command for friendly spider mines :\ good luck to everyone involved in this project
|
All I can think of is how unhappy I would be when lose 50 stacked mutas to a single archon D:

aka stress relief in unit tester maps xD

I feel like multiple building selection and automining wouldn't encourage deathballs at all. Unlimited unit selection and smart casting would have a significant effect, but I don't see why being able to more easily produce units and rally workers would lead to deathballs being better. It seems like all these two features do is increase the apm required to play the game when a player has a lot of bases.
|
None of the gameplay modifications are going to happen, with the EXTREMELY slight possibility of the hotkey remapping happening. That's unlikely though.

You can't balance mbs and automining with how zerg works in bw.

You shouldent change bw to get more similar to sc2 just to attract people. The idea for the server&automatchmaking is good, but let it be with that. Changing keys and the gameplay should not even be an discussion, and i think most ppl will agree with me on that
|
All I ever wanted from Sc2 in Broodwar was setting your own hotkeys. If there was a server that could make it possible for me without a big effort I would come back to this game. Maybe it would also be a good idea to add all necessary tech-addons (fixing the graphic bug for example) in an automatic launcher update.
I do know those really dedicated to bw work around this issues but casuals like me who only played the game in lans before would really appreciate this stuff a lot. And I think everybody knows that an easy way in will create many long time followers.

I suspect with the changing-hotkeys thing, it's the kind of thing that people would dislike when first put in but after a while no one would care because it doesn't make a big enough difference in play to matter, whereas MBS and so on do make a massive difference in play.
