Hey, according to Androidpolice, a developer named Dan Aloni has been working on a tool called winulator to let windows executables run on android. He's gotten sc:BW running on it.
Here's a video of sc:bw running on an Asus Eee Pad: (Not public yet).
Pretty awesome! I hope we get to see this in the App Store soon. I imagine the way it will work would be a bit complicated, with you needing to re-locate all the BW files on your device in order to run and not break Blizzard's copy rights over their content. Right click is also a sorely missing feature -- I'd love to see support for something like two finger tap to emulate right click.

Plus with many phones and tablets having blu tooth capability, you can now run them as you would a desktop.
Wow, I have to say that's really badass. You can have a LAN party with random strangers in the subway now! Even settle a bet with a quick 1v1 over coffee.
Next thing you know, everyone's carrying one of those roll-up keyboards in their pocket.
Sweet invention! Now I'm waiting for advanced 3D interactive version where you point your finger at the SCVs and yell "You! Go and mine minerals NOW! No, from SEPARATE patches goddamnit!". I'm sure Japanese scientists are already working on it.

lol, mutas go micro and kill the terran, easy win?^^
this app is so awsome, they should put a option somewhere when you you hold a finger at X place it will give you rightclick instead of left.

there is a program that uses voice commands in BW, I don't remember what it was called but I saw some threads about it a longer while ago.
I think, since touchscreen will be the preferred device in years to come, it is a nice way to promote BW after all. I also like the idea of subway wLAN party
This is really great, It will be really really cool if you can watch replays here aswell, btw on another topic I just found out that you can run FiSH Server on Android which is really cool too.

Also as far as I understood, he didnt make BW for Android but a Windows Emulator for Android and just running Broodwar on the Emulator. Thus Blizzard cannot do anything about it.

You can NOT play bw on N64 rofl
Actually, you can. "Nintendo 64 version In 2000, StarCraft 64 was released for the Nintendo 64, co-developed by Blizzard Entertainment and Mass Media Inc. The game featured all of the missions from both StarCraft and the expansion Brood War, as well as some exclusive missions, such as two different tutorials and a new secret mission, Resurrection IV.[65] Resurrection IV is set after the conclusion of Brood War, and follows Jim Raynor embarking on a mission to rescue the Brood War character Alexei Stukov, a vice admiral from Earth who has been captured by the Zerg. The Brood War missions required the use of a Nintendo 64 memory Expansion Pak to run.[66] In addition, StarCraft 64 features a split screen cooperative mode, also requiring the expansion pak, allowing two players to control one force in-game.[67] StarCraft 64 was not as popular as the PC version, and lacked the online multiplayer capabilities and speech in mission briefings. In addition, cut scenes were shortened.[65] Despite this, the game maintained positive reviews. Blizzard Entertainment had previously considered a PlayStation port of the game, but it was decided that the game would instead be released on the Nintendo 64.[68]"
Considering you can plug a mouse and keyboard into Android tablets often (you can on my one at least, although I had to use a USB hub to get both in at the same time) I could totally see gaming on the go, so you can get some practice in while you're on the airplane and such.

Have you ever tried it? Sure, it's technically possible to play BW on a N64, but it's not exactly possible to play it. Like, it's so bad you want to kill yourself after 10 minutes.

Correct. From the description this would seem very similar to running BW through WINE on Linux (except would generally be more complex as it can also run on a different processor architecture)

if you read the post (the link provided in the OP) you will notice that it specifically said that it's not a windows emulator, which is why it doesn't work 100% yet.

It is *essentially* an emulator. It works very similarly to Wine, except that there is a conversion step that takes place before running, likely to reduce the number of windows APIs it needs to implement. It does not go so far as to try an emulate an entire windows computer, but it does emulate the Windows 95/98 APIs and use them to achieve similar outcomes (drawing on the screen, receiving input, etc.). Yes, you can claim that's "not an emulator" but that's just being pedantic.
The reason it doesn't work 100% yet is because they haven't implemented all the APIs, which could be just as true of a pure hardware-level emulator as it is of this.

Why wouldn't he be? I was 13 with no PC when I was playing split screen back then. I wasn't concerned that I couldn't micro, cuz I didn't know what it was. I just having fun, and it's a mindset I wish I didn't lose when I got older :< .

This is 2013. Smart phones are the cool shit now. Starcraft: Brood War on Android is taking e-Sports to another level, starting what we now call android professional gaming. Where ever you look, you'll see everyone and their mom battling it out on the real time world of Starcraft in blazing fast 50apm on their smart phones. Then Blizzaed sues the one responsible for all of these over the smallest of things. Good luck to him though. I'll be waiting for this.
Yeah nifty but probably more into the category of I would rather play it on say a PC with a mouse kind of thing. Not everything belongs on a phone just because phones now are merged with a computer.
hmm has anyone tried this yet? i downloaded the app from Google Play, and pasted my entire Starcraft BW directory into the phone, but somehow it doesnt detect the game..
edit: apparently the winulator starcraft profile is needed, which was not stated or provided anywhere in the website.. replay was fine, except that it can be very glitchy.. like suddenly the replays does not show according to what was really played.. some units became invulnerable too.. if they could fix all these, i'm sure it will be very useful for replay analysis
I tried it myself on Samsung Galaxy S3 and it works just fine. There is an option to add custom buttons which helps a lot with the controls, for example I added a big right click button, ctrl+1, ctrl+2 buttons for making groups, space to get to the last action and so on. I also made a video:
There is a feature in Starcraft that many people don't know about. If you press alt and select a group of units and they hold alt and click a unit that was in that group it will select all units previously selected. I mentioned this mostly because the lack of hotkeys with the emulator.
Then follow this steps: 1) Install Starcraft Brood War and update it to the latest version 1.16.1 2) Download Starcraft Winulator profile from http://www66.zippyshare.com/v/75827740/file.html and copy it to the Starcraft Brood War folder 3) Copy the Starcraft Brood War folder to the root of your device's SD card 4) Run Winulator and use the "wrench" icon and select Scan SD card for programs. In the case it does not find the game try Scan a specified path for programs. When it finds the game you are ready to launch it.
When you are in the game press the "Back" button and choose "Control widgets" to add aditional controls to help you playing the game.
Is it still possible to somehow run it on Android 6? from what I have seen winulator doesn't work on android 5+. I'm using Nvidia shield k1 tablet Thanks.
When I was about 12 I always wanted to play be able to play StarCraft on vacation etc... but I would need a CPU and internet!
Of course, it wouldn't be like playing on PC, but if you have the "fun" mindset in mind as others have stated, it would be hell of a lot more entertaining than normal cellphone games.
iCCup Mobile is the future, folks.
edit: Just realized someone bumped this. I hadn't heard about it, though. Was playing SC2 during that period :D However, with this being said, I still think mobile should be more accepted by now! I see some really trashy games being played by my co-workers etc. on their phones.
If someone could make this an easy and tested game on cell phones, it could bring some new life into the SC world. Overwatch is very popular at the moment.. all they'd need to do is plug the fact it's made by Blizzard and an oldie but goodie for FREE on tablet/phone ^^
