Can anyone tell me a good hotkey setup for terran? Right now im just using location hotkeys for all my bases and I'm using 8 to take me to my production. I set 9 and 0 to the comsats on my first two bases.
I have 1-7 designated for units, especially when I'm going marine medic, but I usually just get so frustrated trying to set up the control groups that i just end up boxing and clicking on the minimap. Is there some trick to setting up the control groups for units that I don't know about?
Someone should teach the guy Shift + F2 for screen hotkeys.
Basically if you are playing Terran, your production facilities shall be clumped up in one pile. You click on the middle facility and then you press Shift + F2 to take a screenshot of that location. So while you go into the battles with your unit, once your money gets high, you press F2 to go back to your Factories/Barracks and whatnot, quickly click on every single one of them and produce the appropriate units from them. Immediately go back to your unit afterward. If you do this more and more often, your macro won't skip a beat and the entire game just flows smoother.
I use the location hotkeys for my command centers. I'm just wondering what a standard hotkey setup would be.
I actually played with one of those sGs guys, he shared vision at one point and started giving me tips. When I showed him my vision he was genuinely surprised how big of an army I had. Maybe SC2 did pay off lol.
That said, Hop in the "op Teamliquid" channel, I'm Kmatt in there too.

F2 -- for production facility F3-- for natural F4-- expo
1-6 Army
7-8 Armory or Engineering bay for quick upgrades
9-0 Comsat station ....
It works for me however it may not work for you. Also I never like spamming in the beginning of the game this so called "warming up" crap will only make you get tired in the middle of the game . Instead practice rallying your scv to minerals and press "r" to a mineral spot . Helps you in the middle game where you need to rally your factorys and barrack to your natural in a quick manner this is where F2,F3 screen is a live saver .

If that's a problem do you have a spare keyboard lying around with a usb port ? If you have just plug it in to your junk laptop and you are good to go.

I think I have one somewhere, I'll give it a try.
Should be able to disable that so it performs as a normal function key. You can probably find that option in your BIOS settings. If you don't know how to do this then look up your laptop's manual.
I tried that, but it was giving me hassle. I'm getting a new computer sometime in the next few months, so I'll just wait it out.
But I'm having a really hard time finding games. There's at least 30-50 people in each channel and not one of them will say a word. Is it normal for everyone to be afk all the time or are they just ignoring me because I'm a noob?

Just whisper to them (there is an ICCup page on how to use these things), go like "PvZ Destination D/D+?"

Most of them will respond in couple of seconds.
Yeah.. finding games is frustrating at first but once you figure out how its done its pretty easy. And when you find someone try and play them a couple times in a row too

Is there a function lock key? Some keyboards that dual-purpose their F keys have those.
Yeah, the main thing wich i find so much better in sc2 (sorry dont wanna start a compare flame war) is finding games. That part is still kind a buggy in bw (also with the latency issue..)
Don't know if it's mentioned before but Day9's videos and podcasts were enlightening

buggy? I thought it's non-existent. Yes, indeed SC2 is better when it comes to that. No one would start flaming for that.
Ah just won my first game :D litrally jumped out my chair and was like YEAAAAAAHHHH!!!! If a mod could possible re-name the thread (maybe?) becuase this thread isnt just about me anymore its more about new people getting into BW ill re-update the OP with more info in a bit (out ATM) but god i love this game
Lost my first 1v1 I was playing a protoss and i was going mech like a baws. After about 20 minutes of macroing my heart out and struggling to get all my units in a control groups, I go to his base and he's chilling there with like 8 carriers. I've never played BW before this, but now I understand what idra meant when he said making carriers is a useful skill toi have. GG

Use your scans properly man lol
Yup. As Terran, tech need never surprise you!
Except for when Protoss builds a robotics right outside your main on the other side of the cliff and sends a reaver in 20 seconds earlier than you are used to, before you have any turrets.
Or when they hide templar tech and send in dark templars.
Or when you get a wraith to deal with the reaver drop thinking its over, but he transitions into dark templar drop (Kal vs Baby, Pathfinder, OSL)
