Cool interview, I liked it because I really didn't know anything about Drone's BW-days. Except for that pylon-wall replay and the recent queen game (and of course hearing people mention him amongst greats of the past).

That's a cool pic with you and he other admin Nazgul. How'd you guys meet anyways?

Uh they were both and drone still is Top in there country, they met at WCG, probably a few times now?

first time we met was when I decided to travel to holland for 2 weeks cuz I wanted to meet him and holland is a pretty cool place to spend your vacation when you're a stoner anyway. this was the summer 2003
then I had a bunch of fun and also got to know raszi and oaral and meat more
then the second time I met him I went to holland with a friend for 4 days and we stayed at raszi's place and oaral and raszi's friend was there and naz and meat came later but I really didn't talk that much to either. then the third time was at wcg, then the fourth time when I went to nazgul and raszi's place for 10 days in august or something this year.

really cool interview, another question though
do you think the switch from micro-orientated play to macro-orientated play has ruined creativity in broodwar? has it made it harder for you to be creative and successfull?

norty : somewhat, yes. but also just the fact that people are so good at doing the same things over and over and that strategies are so perfected that sometimes the only way to win is through doing something normal just better than him. it's map dependant though. luna doesn't give much room for creativity but it's such a "smooth", flawless map that macroing becomes both very "easy" and effective. unlike say, plains 2 hill, where simply moving units out of your main is somewhat of a bitch. however that map has many cliffs and island expansions which offer for a lot more diversity in your play. however I also think a problem is that the terran players nowadays would be too strong on more "oldschool" maps with more cliffs and fun stuff, because they're able to execute so much more than players were able to do earlier.

but at the same time there are always situations occuring where being creative pays off.. brood war has so many different variables that it's always possible to hide something, fake something, trap units somehow etc, even if the build order is not creative, there's still room for creativity in very many battles. and personally I don't think me being worse now than I was at my peak has much to do with creativity having less importance, but rather that I haven't improved at all, in fact my speed (and as a consequence, macro) has deteriorated, while most others have improved.

also -_-; nazgul does in fact have aids. thanks for drawing attention towards it.

yeah, I feel the same way too and thats why I find straightforward maps like Luna very boring and I refuse to play them alot of the time. I use to enjoy watching replays more than actually playing because every one would be unique, I think its just how broodwar has evolved over time. It's sad, but as you said theres still room for creativity in broodwar and thats why I still play the game
