Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to present: Broodwar Chat Remover.
Broodwar Chat Remover is a simple utility to remove the chat messages from broodwar replay files. I first stumbled across the idea while watching the 2v2's of Gambit's Cup last fall and getting spoiled by seeing ally chat. This untility removes that problem. Casters need simply supply the replay files and Broodwar Chat Remover will remove all the chat messages. Exceptions may be set, such as "gg" (we must be manner). Voila! No spoilers.
Download link (v1.0) (re-uploaded): here
+ Show Spoiler [Simple User Guide] + Replay Files is the list of all replay files to be converted. Add... adds Broodwar replay files to the files list. You can add multiple files at a time. Remove removes the selected files from the files list. You can select multiple files here too. The New File Suffix text box sets the text to be appended to the old replay file's name to make the new replay file's name if the Overwrite Existing Replays check box is not checked. Example: if New File Suffix is set to -nochat and you have a file in the files list called replay.rep, the resulting chatless file will be named replay-nochat.rep. If the Overwrite Existing Replays check box is checked when Remove Chat is clicked Broodwar Chat Remover will overwrite the existing replay files instead of creating new ones. Please be aware that in this case all chat data will be lost permanently. The Allowed Phrases text box sets the phrases not to be removed from the replay. These phrases are only left in the replay if the chat message matches them exactly. You may specify as many phrases as you wish, just separate them by commas. They are case sensitive. Remove Chat preforms the actual removal of chat from all the files in the files list.
Enormous thanks must go to the makers of BWChart and BWAPI as well as the maintainers of the Video Game Content Extraction repository on google code. It was my rigorous interrogation of their source code that made this tool possible.

wow awesome, so happy to see people still making stuff for BW.
|
If we can remove messages, I guess it's possible to make up some ? :D Anyway, great tool, I wish I had something like this 5 years ago when smurfing non stop on Europe server !
|
Looks great. Open source? (Or just send to me! ).
Developer, curious as to how you worked with the replay files.
|
I salute you for your work sir. Well done.
|
Awesome.
Do the allowed phrases have to be case-sensitive?
|
Nice work. But what is the foreign BW scene without the semi-literate english and latinized russian profanities thrown at each other. Thats what makes it all exciting, isnt it

Hell yes, definitely needed this
|
Very cool, I'll try it out once I get home. Thanks a bunch.
|
Im curious ! why some people would like to rmove the chat ?
|
@Gyro_SC2: often times there are observers in the game, who talk to each other nonstop the entire time. It can be very annoying, especially when you speed up the game, because the rate at which chat appears also speeds up.
|
Nice. There's some replays with really obnoxious obs that this will be so helpful for

The primary reason I made this if for dealing with spoilers in 2v2 casts (the winning team usually submits the replays and as such whomever's ally chat you see in the game is probably the winners) aswell as annoying observers chatting too much.

Yes

if anyone still has this tool it would be cool if he could reup it. minus.com bugs 24/7.
|
havent seen this before, i would also like to ask for a reupload. would be cool in cases of obs-chat spammed reps.

Something that often spoils games in 1on1 casted games that are a bo3 or longer is who leaves at the end of the game. If the replay just ends, the guy that lost that game submitted the replays, which leads one to believe he might make a comeback. If you see that the other guy left, you know that he probably lost the series.

Glad to see people are interested in this again! It appears I can no longer edit the OP. You can find a fresh download here.
Edit: thanks to the wonderful KadaverBB, I can now edit the OP again!

wow this is really neat, I can't believe I didn't see this before. Thanks
