I'm retiring. I will no longer be progamer Son Chan Woong, but just... plain Son Chang Woong. I'm thankful to all of you from the bottom of my heart.
Backho has been suffering from problems with his back (likely herniated disk) all the way from last season to this season. According to Daily E-Sports, he will soon be entering the military and then will be going to a theological seminary.
Are you serious??? NOOOOOOOO Ever since that 2008 OSL Semi-final appearance, even though it was a fluke, I wanted Backho to do well. Too bad he hasn't won anything ....but I guess same could be said for 90% of progamers.
I still remember the backho july semi finals 4 years ago where people tried to hype backho up as some sort of new protoss champion and failed in the hype thread. Good stuff. Sad to see him go because he was very entertaining in the ways he completely self destructed.

That is really sad and unfortunate. Backho has actually been one of my favorite Protoss players since his long semi-final runs in GOM Season 1 and EVER OSL. Rather than being amused at his inconsistency, his play always struck me as approachably human and fallible, and ultimately likable. I wish he and his career didn't have to go out like this.
no, if i recall correctly, it all started when he fell over just before his gom classic match vs stork (or jangbi? forgot). he's had reoccuring problems related to his back then ever since, it was even featured in a small documentary by nhk world.

People don't realise how high the turnover of progamers is. There are always plenty retiring, and plenty new coming in. But it is sad when a well-known player's career ends. It makes sense though- he wasn't going to be winning anything any time soon.

1. Tasteless going nuts as BackHo was dismantling Stork in GOM Classic 2 2. The Lecaf coach coming out during GOM on his behalf to forfeit his game, and Suzie on-site translating it. Then the OSL wildcard tourney for his spot in which Bisu got another chance. (Batoo?)

I'll miss making fun of you BackHo, but everyone that made fun of you doesn't mean that they won't miss you as well. I wish him the best of luck with his future endeavors, and hope that his back injuries finally heal someday. Watch your back, son!

bye backho i know we have lots of rookies coming up but it still seems like more people are retiring than joining the scene. it just seems quite hard for rookies to reach the level of play we see now. when was the last actually successful player as a rookie? effort? soulkey?

Jaedong's tektonik was the sickest dance moves i've ever seen. It was made all the more interesting by the crossdressing backho and friends. BackHo SC2 fighting??
I will always remember "Why I love BackHo" as well as the amazing interviews where Anytime bashes him over and over because BackHo refuses to listen to coaching or adapt in any way.
Does anyone have the amazing game/gif where backho flies his reaver/shuttle into turrets, loses everything, and makes the most amazing BackHo Face of all time?
wow, I realize now what I missed. I remember "zizi yo" incident very faintly, though I didn't know it was that big of a deal. I didn't like Backhos' play that much in the past, it was pretty boring. I pretty much ignored most of the games he played. Mostly, because he was so horrible, it was just a pain to watch, and everybody were bashing him for lucking his way trough when he advanced, and that he did at some games. But wow, how did I miss that he was the Jesus toss??? This is awesome!! Now there is soon to come a ex-progamer korean pastor! This is HUGE!

Backho had a game once against flash where he did 3 gate speedzeal and then rushed DTs in some bizarre all-in that was incredibly entertaining to watch.
I don't agree with people who get depressed when players retire. It's better for them to move on to the next thing in their life rather than wallow in mediocrity and stalled in the team house, achieving nothing.
