hi guys here is a list of iccup bugs and things that should be edited; i'm hoping some iccup admins would see this thread and try to fix some of these little shenanigans
yeah, i would post this on iccup but it would most likely be overlooked, have already tried; please don't close this thread for that reason
- Despite setting the default language to ENGLISH, the website will sporadically change the language to RUSSIAN, this being the site's original default language. (happens a lot while viewing SC rankings section)
- language will change to KOREAN when viewing SC profiles (happened when clicking on a korean's sc id. don't know if the id being korean, or section being starcraft, has anything to do with it)
- when clicking on a player's gaming profile, the default game on site for searching would be set to DOTA; should put an option like the language option, to set the default game for site to SC
- in the original iccup file link for scbw download folder, still hosted by the original russian website, nothing has been updated in a very long time, including map pack, launcher version, scbw version, bwchart (this requires every player (we're talking thousands) to manually update the map pack, sc version, bwchart, and wait for the launcher to update)
- the contents of the aforement sc folder is not folder'd: players caught unawares will be met with dozens of more files recklessly spilled out
- after launcher updates, it will sometimes just close completely, requiring another launch of application (it does update though)
- Anti-Hack Launcher for "Starcraft - Getting started" page links to old version.
- windows mode has critical errors, and for some people just completely does not work at all, others it will work only sometimes.
- the join alert will sporadically fail; i would use this nifty tool to browse internet whilst hosting, and the game will make sounds, but on the same SC session, the tool will fail to make sounds
- the windows-mode cursor when starting a game does not default on the center of the building
there are couple more i forgot, but i'm sure us starcraft players would appreciate it so much if some iccup admins could change some of these! personally some of these problems have been tormenting me for ages, i'm talking years
|
in the meanwhile, i will also try again to personally PM all the iccup mods once again in hopes that they will do something about any of these
|
Yea, if the ICCup team has time alot of these would be some nice changes for ease of use/convenience.
That said, you guys do a ton of great work and if your way busy thats quite understandable. Thanks for the hard work all you guys at ICC do for us!

As an ICCUP admin, I can tell you that the vast majority of admins don't have control over fixing these things, most of the problems you have listed are to do with the website or launcher, and these are things that the mysterious dev team can deal with, and their focus generally if making sure the server stays up.
I suggest you petition the community, and then you can show how many people want this sort of thing changed to the head admin, who is the only person as far as I know who can contact the dev team.

I dont know why i kept logging out everytime I logged in. When I click to check my PM in iccup or join a team or reply in the forum, it will says "Sorry, an error occurred...Only for our sect-community members. Maybe you should join it? Note that for registration you will need blood of a virgin and bile of a hippopotamus* *Virgins may ignore these requirements." -.-" and Im logged out.. any idea how to solve this prob?

I don't know about issues on join alert or window mode, but I don't think that most people like to see tournaments page randomly switch to Russian even though it's in English page (happened to me at D tour last night, had to search for the grid for 5 times longer than usual). Uh, and in my opinion the site randomly giving 503 bad gateway thing is also not appreciated by a good number of people.

Known issue, I hate it as well.
- language will change to KOREAN when viewing SC profiles (happened when clicking on a korean's sc id. don't know if the id being korean, or section being starcraft, has anything to do with it)
Same as above.
- when clicking on a player's gaming profile, the default game on site for searching would be set to DOTA; should put an option like the language option, to set the default game for site to SC
For me, the default is SC. It only occasionally goes to DotA and that's a known bug. As far as I can tell, it only goes to DotA for me when that person has played more games of DotA than SC (or has recently cleared their stats in SC). A very simple way to deal with it is to click one of the three SC/WC3/DotA icons in the top right corner of the page. I'm NOT talking about the tabs along the top. There's 3 small icons, just to the top left of the big ISL graphic on the right side.
Probably fairly simple to fix, but I don't see it as a big problem. It takes like 2 seconds to download the latest map pack and update your launcher. And it's not like you have to keep doing this. Just do it once and you're set. The BW version is up to date, so I'm not sure why you mentioned that.
- the contents of the aforement sc folder is not folder'd: players caught unawares will be met with dozens of more files recklessly spilled out
Hmm. I always choose "Extract to folder" on my compressed files, so this is never a problem for me. I recommend you do the same since a lot of other compressed files you might download are not properly folder'd. I suppose this would be a simple fix though.
- after launcher updates, it will sometimes just close completely, requiring another launch of application (it does update though)
Is this really a problem? Most applications that I know of require a restart (or automatically restart) after an update.
- Anti-Hack Launcher for "Starcraft - Getting started" page links to old version.
I think even the front page AH link is old. Lately there's been a ton of updates to the launcher so they haven't been kept up to date. Just make sure you update...
- windows mode has critical errors, and for some people just completely does not work at all, others it will work only sometimes.
I've never heard anyone complain about w-mode. As far as I know, w-mode works better than full screen for most people (using Vista/Win7). In any case, I believe we use the same w-mode that Chaos Launcher uses, so check if you can do it in Chaos. If not, then it's not really our problem...
- the join alert will sporadically fail; i would use this nifty tool to browse internet whilst hosting, and the game will make sounds, but on the same SC session, the tool will fail to make sounds
Again never heard of this. Can't comment.
- the windows-mode cursor when starting a game does not default on the center of the building
Does it do that in fullscreen mode? I always play in w-mode and I get to my main nexus just fine...

At the end of the day, we admins have absolutely no ability to fix any of these things (except maybe keeping the AH links up to date), just like how the moderators on TL have no power to fix technical problems on the site. It's up to the developers to do that, and they're pretty busy as it is. Some of these issues (page language, going to DotA pages) have been complained about for a while so I'm sure the devs are aware of them. Other issues like out-of-date versions I think are pretty easy for you to just deal with so I don't think the devs will bother with those. If we asked them, they'd probably just say "so just update it yourself...".

I have trouble logging-in iccup.com recently, and the default game on a profile is always set as DOTA. Except that, Iccup has been a great experience so far.
|
Also, starcraft crashes when I accidentally click the "league" button.

As Sayle said, most admins have no influence on those things. I try to work over your list in the next few days. At least what I can do. However, it's kinda pointless to write such a list here. Most admins don't read to often here. Why not post them in the ICCup Forums? Anyhow, still thanks for the work you put into this. We have not enough manpower to monitor those changes all the time, so these kinds of posts are highly appreciated.

Only errors that I've been noticing are the fucking w-mode ones. It gets really annoying and I have to reinstall iCCup every time but the good thing is it doesn't take that long.
|
The DOTA-thing is really annoying indeed; specially considering that if you get into a player's profile, and it's DOTA, and you press on starcraft section, the current path is lost and you're redirected on the main page of starcraft section. Then you have to open the profile again. When you open his gaming profile, chances are it'll automaticaly switch to DOTA profile again. Sometimes I have to manualy edit the url myself to get to the starcraft profile of target user.
Should be pretty easy to fix for dev team. They probably currently have an auto-redirect function that will switch to DOTA if there are games played on DOTA on the account, or if starcraft of the current season is 0-0. Adding a default setting for user profile would work; or, at least, making the switch between starcraft/DOTA/WC3 remember the former url.

Switching between games in someone's profile is really not that big of a deal. Also, to the poster above me:

hmm i wonder why Unk would ignore the bugs, but take the time to code the personal messaging program so as to disable users from being able to PM Unk
ANYWAYS
i sent PM's to the other mods, lets hope they don't do absolutely nothing again
