Here's a quote from the original topic on the iCCup forum, found here:
The admin team is thinking of organising a Starcraft Vanilla (original Starcraft) event. This is a poll to see whether enough people are interested to make it worth it.
A reminder about pre-Broodwar Starcraft:
- no medics - no DTs (and DAs) - no lurkers - no valkiries - no corsairs - no devourers - no goliath range upgrade - no ultra +5 or speed
I really hope to see many of you guys participating or spectating, as I think this will be an awesome event! Please vote and comment both here and in the iCCup thread.
We hope to get much feedback so we feel that it is worth it. Also, we are thankful for any suggestions you may have for this event.

PvZ will be... difficult, to say the least. That said, this would be absolutely fascinating to watch!
|
It would be interesting to see a tournament being played on version 1.00 of vanilla Starcraft, with all the imbalanced being left in the game. Then again, a tournament on the latest version of vanilla SC would also be quite interesting, especially since so many vital units and upgrades are no longer in play. It would definitely be an interesting experiment and should be quite fun.
|
fascinating indeed, alot of the key units in most of the matchups are missing. I'd totally watch this to see what people come up with in order to win. PvZ without sairs... Scouts?!?!? xD
|
z is clearly dominating terran here: no medics, so muta/ling will be a terrible threat and additionally no goliath range if you want to go mech.. also guardians will be more difficult to handle
|
lol, Z is going to dominate this tournament! no sairs and no medic/gol range/valks It's not like the muta micro is going to revert to the vanilla era haha
Expect to see a lot of T mech play nonetheless, and lotsa 2 or 4gate pvz heh.
PvT is pretty much the only unchanged matchup, although wraiths will prolly be the counter to carriers rather than goliaths.
|
also remember pool is 150 minerals and academy is 200 (?) is that right? terran is doomed

pool was changed to 200 minerals before bw iirc

Would be intersting to watch atleast, see what people could come up with on the spot maybe.

And Terran will suck vs both P and Z, lol. Especially Z.
No goliath range makes Carriers imba vs Terran. I'm a Protoss player, but even I have to admit that.
I used to play vanilla for years, haha. Can't believe I stood out with that shit.

Pool is not 150 minerals in the latest version of Vanilla, all the unit stats are the same. Fastest players actually play on vanilla in their league because lurkers make every game last for hours otherwise.
T is gonna be seriously hard... PvT if toss gets to carriers and ZvT any muta harass.
|
Funny because tvz was supposedly all about the stimmed rines vs hydras in pre bw era and hydras frankly dont do so well at that.. And in pvz protoss can still harass with scouts.. though the 275/125 cost is

Unfortunately for vanilla sc, muta stacking was found by progamers. Made me realize that vanilla sc is really imbalanced. I guess it will be 2port wraith vs muta...
|
Yea this would be a really cool idea!
Although I fear Zerg will be overpowered
In PvZ, even if you manage to survive a 2-hatch muta rush with cannons, it'll be hard to stop HT snipe >.<
TvZ is slightly better because of Turrets and gollies (even w/o range), or even 2-port wraiths openings.

Was this patched in SC Original? imba scarab slowships (dropships)

Haha sick idea, hope this goes through and is broadcasted ( would definitely watch )
Wonder if Mani will continue today's spotlighting spree...
|
You guys thinking that Zerg are OP should not forget that there are no lurkers and that vanilla Ultras aren't that good :p
|
Will maybe play, but definitely watch :D

I hope so :D
And yes, we know vanilla is imbalanced, but I think it would still be fun to watch.

I will play in this if they do it.
