So there's this big fuss about Stork not showing up to January 26, 2011 KHAN vs FOX game. Stork isn't showing up... thread (Milkis) With all due respect to Milkis, why he didn't include all of the available interview/article material, I don't know.

There's no denying that he didn't show up. The purpose of me starting this thread is to provide a more comprehensive picture.

DES does not have any articles directly delivering the reason why, but Fomos has one:
+ Show Spoiler [Fomos Article] +
- 'Commander' Stork (Samsung Khan) did not accompany his team to the Moonrae Hero Center today. [T/N: Moonrae Hero Center is where the MBCGame-broadcasted SPL and MSL matches are held, except for MSL finals]

- Coach January of Samsung Khan said that "Stork's schedule these days are incredibly packed, so as a team, we decided to do him a favour. Right now, Stork is practising for his individual league matches."

- Stork will face Zero (Woongjin) on the 27th in the Ro8 of PDPop MSL, and two days later, he will face Fantasy (SKT) in the finals of Bacchus Starleague 2010. It seems like Samsung Khan excluded Stork from today's match roster to boost his chances in the individual league games.

- In the meanwhile, Samsung Khan starts a busy stretch with today's SPL match against FOX, Stork's MSL matches on the 27th, Starleague Finals on the 29th, and SPL match against SKT on the 30th.

Based on the above article, it seems like a team decision to leave Stork behind. It's possible that Stork wanted to practice for individual leagues, and if he remembered what statements he made last SPL season, he probably should have just came along with the team. However, we have more articles, thanks to the winners' interviews.

Here's a blurb from Jangbi-Grape interview:

Q: Last words?
A: Jangbi: Stork didn't show up for today's match with our team, and he's taking a lot of harsh words and criticism right now. Let me make it clear, his absense is not because he's practising for OSL; he's not here because it's Coach January's decision. Because Stork's been single-handedly carrying the team lately, Coach wanted to send us a strong message this way. It's not that Coach wants to favour Stork excessively or something. I hope people don't misunderstand and hate him for this. I'm pretty sure he was watching TV and cheering for us instead of practising.

Q: Any last words?

A: TurN: Originally, Stork was supposed to play today. However, after last match against Hite, Coach Janaury said that our team image is becoming too much of a Stork one-man-team and removed Stork from today's entry back then, and I happened to be the lucky replacement. I'm happy that I was able to grasp this opportunity and earn 2 wins. Thanks to coach for giving me the opportunity.

- Any last words?

- Grape: PvT is my worst match-up but lately Reality has been helping me on a 1-on-1 personal basis, so I improved a lot. Thank you, and also thanks to Jangbi and Stork for their help.

- Jangbi: Stork didn't come to the stadium today and he's eating a ton of criticism from fans. It seems like the meaning behind this is to deliver us a strong message to get our acts together, not just to give Stork practice time. I don't think this is solely because of practice so I hope people don't too much offense from this.

- Any last words?

- Originally, Stork was set to play today but Coach January said that we're becoming too much of a Stork one-man-team so she placed me in the entry spot instead. It happened so that I was able to use this opportunity to record 2 more wins today, so I'm satisfied. Thanks to Coach for giving me the opportunity.

http://www.fomos.kr/board/board.php?mode=read&keyno=114527&db=interview&cate=001&page=1&field=&kwrd=

TL/DR version of the above interviews: Based on the interviews, January made the decision to replace Stork's entry spot in today's KHAN vs FOX match with TurN, after the recent loss against Hite.

So does all this information put me in a position to make my own speculations?

Everyone knows I'm a huge Stork fan, so I'm not sure how many of you will take my words seriously. But ok, I was very disappointed about the news. I did remember that Stork gave a pretty opinionated interview last season vs KT and as soon as I saw Milkis's thread, I knew that Stork was going to eat a ton of e-shit tonight. The witty comments on TL are nothing compared to the list of endless shit on the replies for the Fomos article (Stork defenders, Stork haters, Fantasy fans, Fantasy haters, FOX fans, Flash fans, KT fans, Zero fans - all having their say, usually in the most crude way possible).

I feel like it's a fan's duty (and desire) to shield their favourite player, their idol, from eating a ton of e-shit. I can't change the facts, but I'm staying up until 4AM right now (EST) after pulling two consecutive all-nighters (bridge design project and innovative freight policies presentation) to find all these articles and translate so that at least, I've done my part in giving out a more complete picture of the situation.

I think January did the right thing for the team - this sends a strong message to the players to step it up because Stork will be busy time to time and the rest of the team needs to do their part. The timing of this, however, is probably as bad as it could have been - right when Stork's about to play his individual league matches.

And alright, for my personal speculations - Stork really could have begged Coach January to put him back in the entry spot, or at least let him tag along so that he didn't have to eat a ton of shit. I think he should have at least tagged along so all of this fuss wouldn't come up. But in his right, the coach made her decision and that decision ended up giving Stork more practice time, which would have been hard to refuse, given the circumstances.

Various (but unofficial) sources have stated that it seems like Stork's GF broke up with him recently (Stork's interview: Fomos) so Stork is probably not in his best emotional state right now. Now that I think, even if January knew what Stork said in last season's interview, it was the right decision to rest him so that he could recover emotionally. I just hope he doesn't check the internet tonight.

Well, that's all I've got to say. Sleeping now. Someone else can grab the full interviews...

Thanks for translating this bit you did. A lot of people talk shit when some little thing comes up. Im glad to have some clarity in the air since Stork is obviously not one to not support his team.

Ya it was very unfortunate for Stork that it turned out looking this way and made him look like a hypocrite. Very bad timing indeed.

no one likes to eat e-shit.

I understand the gripe of stork fans, and they have a right to be upset. I think that not going is a gamble. If stork wins OSL gold, all will be forgiven, but if he is eliminated from both leagues, then he wont hear the end of it for a long time, deservedly so.

Obviously, they just cover for Stork.
If you don't want Stork to play - ok, just don't send him out. Why not to bring him as spectator then? There is no excuse for Stork.

Can I just slightly disagree/just see it from different angle. I'm absolutely sure that Stork wanted to participate and I'm sure the coach made the decision but... Is there someone that believes she would have done it if it wasn't for Stork's final? One man team - bla bla bla, ok then lets remove jaedong, flash, bisu and maybe curently Bogus and so on...lets get rid of them their wins are making their teams - one man teams. My point is - every win is vital, all the teams think of anything that could increase their chances to win in each round. The decision was taken mostly duetof the finals - without blaming Stork or anyone for not showing. I believe it's normal not to participate in one round to prepare for the finals. I believe last year Stork just really wanted to play Flash and when that didn't happen he said those things. I still I think he was not right.
It's about time.

Because the whole point of not letting Stork play today is to use the time spared to practice, not to have fun.

Dear Flash fan, can you just let it die? Stork is at least honest about things, and he practiced to snipe Flash and Flash didn't show up so he said that long time ago. Times change, new situations arise, and Stork might have had to go back on his words, but does it really matter so much? The OP posted other reasons as to why it was good for Stork not showing up (GF breakup, changing Khan's image, etc), I think Stork is perfectly justified in taking the day off.

p.s. stop using so many hyphens, thanks

Thats why you should be careful in what you say to others in a interview . If you bash someone for a mistake or decision that he makes make sure you don't make the same mistake or decision as him it will just make you look bad . Frankly the shit he is geting is probably somewhat deserved after what he said to Flash who was working his ass of last season to keep up the results he was making . I have no sympathy for Stork right now . I don't hate him or anything for this , but at least now he should know a little in what situation Flash was last season before he makes a statement .

Also Flash even apologized to Stork or his fans ( don't know why he had to apologize ) , after he read Stork's interview , lets see if Stork is going to do the same .

You obviously don't follow Khan much. January routinely let her top players take matches off. She also rotates the Ace player. She also tell her star players to go F themselves if they slack off, and replace them in her lineup with youngsters instead. Whether you agree with her coaching style, or you agree with letting Jaedong/Flash practice til their hands fall off, is not the question here.

You may disagree with her thought process, but it's consistent with her past decisions.

Edit: Thanks Opticalshot for the translation. E-SHIT is serious business.

Yes. Didn't you say yourself a few posts above that teammates simply covered for Stork ? I do agree on this part.

On January 26 2011 18:23 Yodo wrote:

The fact that January doesn't want her team to look like a one man team is totally understandable, and I am glad that Khan could win anyway. But it's obvious that Stork who's already down 0-1 against ZerO is going to use this spare time to practice.

Isn't too big of a coincidence that January decides to prove her team is not a one man team just before Stork has to play a Ro8 where he's down 0-1, and an OSL final ?

It's totally normal for teammates to try cover up, as it is totally fine (at least it is for me) that Stork doesn't play in PL today to practice more for individual leagues. I don't think that Stork deserves so much hate just because of an interview from last year.

edit :
also :
Jangbi: Stork didn't come to the stadium today and he's eating a ton of criticism from fans. It seems like the meaning behind this is to deliver us a strong message to get our acts together, not just to give Stork practice time. I don't think this is solely because of practice so I hope people don't too much offense from this.

Jangbi admits that the decision of not letting Stork play today is at least partly due to practice.

edit2 : damn I forgot to say thanks. OP put a great effort there !

Taking criticism for this is perfectly normal. Yes it is hypocritical to call one player out for forsaking his team for a match in order to practice for leagues and then do the same, especially after "back when my schedule was full, I prepared and play for both my individual and proleague games". I really don't buy this whole 'the coach forced him to stay home, he couldn't do anything about it, so lets all feel bad for the clearly innocent Stork with 0 power over the situation' bit.

Now was he wrong for taking time off to practice? not at all, I would have done the same thing. I wouldn't have said shit to Flash about it last year though, since its totally understandable. This is just another small dose of e-drama. So I'm sorry Stork, you're just going to have to eat it and next time choose your words more carefully.

I'm going to sleep, let me get some of that carpet.
