So with the emergence of the SC2 proscene, and the decline of the BW scene, I though it would be cool to make a top 10 list of the communities top games of all time. Sadly, I entered the bw scene a little late, so I didn't get to witness every players greatness. After the voting is done, I will probably find the vods on youtube and post them here.
For now, I am asking players to toss out some ones to be considered to be on the voting ballot. And don't be afraid to mention one that has already been posted, this will give it more weight on whether or not to be included for voting. Please be as specific as possible, including the players, year, event, and why it should included. (links would be awesome too, but not required.
Here are some of the ones I am considering just off my knowledge.
TheRock vs Chalrenge- ShinHan Proleague 2007- 4 day PvP where chalrenge forces a draw holding off waves of attack from his last base
SlayerS_`BoxeR' vs [NC]Yellow in (someone help me here) tournament finals. - All in Scv marine rush
Bisu vs Pokju - Game 2 of the 2007 Proleague - Bisu's in base 2 gate proxy
FlaSh vs Stork - 3set Bacchus OSL Finals - The first of many starleague titles for possibly the greatest starcraft player of all time.
Casey Vs July - Casey's strike of genious tricking july with a fake expo, then turning on the attack.
Bisu vs Savior Game 3- Msl Finals 2007 - Bisu revealing his "Bisu Build" which 3-0'd the current Bonjwa and shocked the world, revolutionizing the match up.
Boxer vs Joyo - 2003 OSL- Possible the greatest comebacks of all time
Tempest vs Light- MBCGame Season 3 Survivor Tournament- Tempest holds off a BBS rush with a 30 kill dragoon and a sheild battery
Qualifications: Any epic game. Any game with a pimpest play. Any game that had a great effect on the current state of the match up. Any game you could watch over and over and over again.
I know I am missing a ton of games, so you guys should help submit ideas!
(EDIT: by the way, I'm not trying to be a dick or anything, I get the point of showing BW to SC2 players, I just foresee a BW vs SC2 flamewar in a cross-post like this)
This was a good list that i went through, I am not sure how many VOD's were affected by Jon747 being closed down.
Yeah that could be a good list to sift through, but i really want this to be a voting thread at some point, so it reflects the community as opposed to my preference. And like I said, my own BW is limited to just the past few years, so i don't think i could be impartial.
Flash vs Bisu @ 2008 Bacchus OSL semis, the whole goddamned series. TvP at it's finest. Stork vs Gorush @ Neo Requiem, Proleague I think. Good ol' mass carrier PvZ. Stork vs GGplay @ Andromeda, dunno league. Another Epic ZvP with almost every unit available. Flash vs FHB @ Medusa, Proleague, greatest TvT ever, no contest! Much vs FHB @ R-point (I think?). Not the greatest play, but the most epic BM in history
Flash vs Stork at the OSL should not even be considered, I don't know if you simply forgot how that went down, but it was completely one sided the entire finals after the opening show didn't last longer then 30 minutes.

That's why it's so good if you know the backstory. 2 weeks earlier they faced eachother at the Gomtv Star Invitational and played a really close finals, ended 3-2 for Flash. Then at the Bacchus finals Flash just stomps Stork. Mind games at it's best!
Jaedong vs Fantasy 2009 OSL semis game 2 on Outsider and game 3,one of the best TvZs and most epic 4pool in the history if BW, especially because it was technically defended successfully.
One of my all time favorites that hasn't been mentioned yet Jaedong vs Stork Shinhan Winners League 2010-2-20
check out the video @ 36:30... just wow..
Epic game, I think this is the most I have ever seen a player sweat... just look at it pouring off of his face. (Although to be fair iirc this is shortly before jaedong was hospitalized for enteritis, so maybe he was already suffering from that.)
The game had it all, early aggression, huge storms, huge plagues, long distance mining, dramatic camera shots of the players haha :D
Stork vs Bisu on loki. That zvz on Triathlon that went to ultras. ZvZ late game would be so epic... too bad it never gets there. Also jaedong vs yellow on match point.
Already been mentioned but savior vs FBH on python and Stork vs GGplay on andromeda Savior vs nal_ra on peaks of baekdu -epic base race at the end.
Those are the ones that come to mind first
ps I mostly watch/love zerg games cause I play them so im kinda biased
EDIT: just thought of some more- the stork vs jaedong game on match point jaedong vs FanTaSy on Sin Chupung-Ryeong, I thought the Zero vs Kal on holy world was epic too. Infested terran vs protoss was awesome!
July vs Goodfriend EVER 2005 grand final game 5 on Forte. Tensest game ever, one that you find both players playing as if their lives depended on it.
Boxer vs Anytime So1 2005 grand final Game 4 also on Forte. 2-1 down, Boxer completely against the ropes hides a factory outside of his main and mines up the path of Anytime's dragoons, pushes out, Anytime's goons die while in retreat to the mines. 2-2. For me, Boxer at his finest.
Many many oldies to list, but i dont know if people are interested anymore in games before Flash/Jaedong/Bisu

i don't get how that's a mind game unless Flash deliberately trash talked after winning the first finals or something, there aren't any mind games being played maybe stork just had confidence issues after losing such a close final
Important inclusions would be FBH vs Flash from 2009 and Stork vs GoRush from 2005 both in PL and of course at least one epic ZvZ (Great vs Zero anyone?)

Its one of the few cases where *true* mindgames actually won the game. Not the crappy "oh woooops I cheesed and my opponent saw my build xxx is bad at mindgames!" definition of mindgames people like to throw around.
Flash trash talked before the game that his anti carrier build would could beat anything; Stork said that Flash's anti carrier build was not unbeatable and he would prove that. To beat Flash's anti carrier build, Stork went with three fairly greedy builds; Flash on the other hand went with three ultra aggressive builds.
Turns out Stork wanted to beat Flash's anti carrier build so badly he ended up losing the finals in less than 40 minutes to pretty much the antithesis of the Flash build.
the best games i clearly remember throughout the years
the game where boxer does the near impossible ghost lockdown bisu vs jeadong on blue storm iloveoov vs reach on some space platform map flash vs bisu on katrina reach vs thewind on lost temple (not at all sure about the zerg, but for its time it was one of the sickest pvz games ever)
Jaedong v Yellow - longest ZvZ I've ever seen and totally exciting the whole time. I'm a huge fan of ZvZ, and this one takes the cake (at least, that I can remember).
Maybe not all time, but one amazing game that wasn't mentioned in this thread was Flash vs Calm on Fighting Spirit in the OSL round of 8 (or was it 4?) last year - Game 3 I believe. It was an epically long TvZ, tensions were high the whole time and neither player could really do any damage to the other for almost the whole game.
Of course there are epic classics. Of the more recent games my favorites are:
Much v Bisu on that semi-island map where Much does 1 base carrier. Quite a game that was.
Jaedong v Fantasy on Outsider. I think this was the game which really kicked off the SK -> Mass tanks TvZ style
Iris v Bisu game 5 of their MSL series. This is definitely my favorite TvP ever.... such insane opening transition to seriously (and well) used hallucinations? Yes please!
Flash v Movie on HBR. This is because I'm a Flash fan, you just have to admire his defensiveness.
Flash v FBH on.. well most of their games! Particularly Medusa and that T favored 3 player map last fall (Moon glaive?). What insane TvTs....
I know technically it may not be remembered often or had great skills displayed but Boxer VS Pusan set 3 on ROTV was what got me into Broodwar. EDIT: And awesome! Right above me people are talking about it. Fantastic game
Fantasy vs GGPlay on Neo Medusa -> the day the Fantasy build was unveiled to the world.
Nal_rA's Hallucination Recall game AND his epic elimination match against Savior.
The ENTIRE Boxer vs Anytime So1 Finals (If you had to pick a game, pick game 4 for epic minetraps). I thought this was just as epic, if not more epic, than the Boxer-Pusan series.
Jaedong's EE HAN TIMING muta-scourge attack vs. Stork in EVER OSL 2007 Finals
Heck, I'll even throw in Effort vs. Flash in Bigfile MSL for Effort selling Flash, who the commentators noted 눈치백단 (maphacker), the big 2-hatch lurker fake into ultrafast defilers.

Boxer vs Joyo - 2003 OSL- Possible the greatest comebacks of all time
Tempest vs Light- MBCGame Season 3 Survivor Tournament- Tempest holds off a BBS rush with a 30 kill dragoon and a sheild battery
Wait, are we talking about top 10 BW matches of ALL TIME? If so I have no idea how games like Bisu vs Pokju or TheRock vs Chalrenge are on here
In no order: Flash vs FBH on medusa, proleague (cant remember season) Bisu vs Savior Game 3 GOMTV MSL finals Nal_ra vs savior on peaks, think it was pringles msl Gorush vs Nal_ra on Forte, Proleague Bisu vs Stork game 5 MSL finals (cant remember the map name) Hiya vs Free, cant remember map and from where but hiya goes wraiths nukes lockdown Free vs Jaedong game 3 Quarters Yellow vs Casy Game 1 of OSL semis Joyo vs boxer iloveoov vs july on Nostalgia, breaking the streak
Boxer vs Midas(?) on Lost Temple. You know, the dropship->ghosts->lockdown one.
The first pro replay I ever saw.
Also, I believe it was Reach vs I don't remember Z on this blue map (similar to Bladestorm, or maybe it was Bladestorm) where everyone was mined out and there were some pretty epic battles. In the end Z just sent everything he had (including drones) into remaining P forces and got obliterated by maelstroms and archons.
Midas vs savior on hitchiker, people blamed the map for saviors loss but it later turned out that the map favors Z iloveoov vs boxer Game 4 on Requiem OSL finals, one of the most epic games ever! Savior vs Nada Game 1 on Longinus OSL finals, good game Goodfriend vs Julyzerg Game 5 on Forte OSL finals, good comeback and epic game Iris vs Savior Game 5 OSL semis?, well iris was in a commanding position but savior still manages to win somehow FBH vs Savior on Python, cant remember from where but fbh loses his main and nat moves bases and wins with BCs
it was that old game stork vs a zerg ........ , it was the best game in that top 100 ........., it was a game with reaver corsair carriers..... and long game can't remember vs who was stork playing, anyoane can help ?

Hiya vs Free on Triathlon, 2-port wraith into Ghosts with Lockdown and Nukes vs Dark Archons with Mind Control. There's also one point where Hiya mounts an impossible defense of his expansion, holding off Free's entire army with a single siege tank and some SCVs.
On October 29 2010 01:02 FaCE_1 wrote: Nal_Ra vs Savior on I don't remember which map Nal_ra canon rush savior , was really fun
Neo Fantasy iirc
EDIT: Might have been Neo Harmony

ok im going to try to come up with the top 10 most epic BW games ever. this is impossible
boxer vs oov set 4 @ neo requiem oov vs yellow game 3 @ u-boat flash vs jaedong @ rush hour 3 winners league jaedong vs fantasy @ outsider SPL 09 finals savior vs iris game 5 @ neo arkoroid bisu vs iris game 5 @ byzantium fbh vs savior @ python (battlecruiser game) bisu vs savior @ katrina kal vs forgg @ Colosseum arena MSL Ro8 game 1 ggplay vs iris game 5 @ python
fuck there are so many. almost impossible to do a top 10. too hard to choose!
i gotta ask, i have never been involved in the bw pro scene, but i watched a flash vs jd vod and why was there a duck mascott in a police uniform there? i was a bit freaked out that they kept showing it =)

you've obv never heard of the duck police
love the way the OP mentions the game where boxer rushes yellow, as if that narrows things down at all

Those games were amazing, best served with high speed Klazart commentary IMO:
I don't think that the Bisu vs Pokju game should be included. Great game to watch and was fun, but didn't show anything great from either player. Pokju didn't defend properly, and really Bisu didn't have to do much once he was producing out of the gates. Just not top 10 all time imo.
I'd vouch for this game, amazing game with a rather unique strategy at the time. The style used in this game is probably what most people remember July by (that and his use of mutas).

Think we could make a top 10 list of games where Boxer rushes Yellow.
Though I seem to remember one memorable game where he sent all his SCVs as well. He might have done that in more than one game, though. ><

valid points, the only reason i might consider it on the ballot, is just because if i recall, that was pokju's last progame of his career. And I don't think anyone has received a beating so embarrassing to end their career.

power outage game (because it was an amazing comeback. but even more so, because after flash's mental recovery from this game.....he has just stomped JD.)

july showing real muta micro as we know it.

bisu build.

haha thats a classic right there, foru's 50 gateways vs nada's 3/3(?) mech :D

Casy nuked Jy into retirement. Every opponent TossGirl beat for a while went into retirement as well.
YellOw vs Bisu YellOw vs Nal_rA from the Old Boy series (I didn't know you could cannon up on that ledge =p) Light vs FlaSh WL 2010 for the sake of a broken starsense; maphacks FTW.
I dont think anyone has mentioned this one yet, but it's a really great game with more or less constant action and the deciding battle is just awesome.+ Show Spoiler +
that one stasis!!!
.
Besides this my favourite games have all been mentioned i think:
Savior vs Iris on Arkanoid game 5 GGPlay vs Iris on Python game 5 Nal_rA vs Savior on Peaks (Elimination game) Boxer vs oov game 4 on Requim + Show Spoiler +
Only Boxer would mnm rush in a game where an OSL title is on the line, and only he would succed despite being scouted
On October 30 2010 04:25 SagaZ wrote: Jaedong vs Lomo at GomTV starleague, I think game 2. Amazing hudge comeback by the winner
Ah I remember watching that and listening to Tasteless (hmm yeah?) being like "X is really throwing away the game here" about 80 times. It was a good game though.
On October 28 2010 08:33 ZeroChrome wrote: has anybody mentioned NaDa vs Gorush yet? that game deserves to be in the top 3 matches.
QFT - the game is from YATGK MSL Finals on Luna and it was Game One. So many incredible moments! The game that brought us PLAYGUUU and of course NaDa's Pimpest Play Salvation Army!!!
heh i just remember, kingdom vs silent_control on that semi-island map, i think 815 deserves an honourable mention. i think this was the game where refugee toss came from but i cant be sure :D
i remember some years ago there was a stream with chill i think, where they had some insanely awesome games from like 2002 and stuff, coca cola sponsored tournements and stuff... would be awesome if anyone know what im talking about, would love to see that again.. think there was some wraith basetrade with boxer vs some zerg!
There have been so many grand/fantastic games, I did a little thinking. One per matchup ^^
pvp ??? pvt ??? pvz ???
tvp Flash vs Stork, Xgame? tvt Flash vs mrX, Flash builds 127 turrets. tvz Flash vs Jaedong, Hana Daetoo MSL, Triathlon. Flash denies JD a third and rolls him.
zvp July vs Rock* zvt Savior vs Xterran, where he goes 3-base hive and counters the terran push at the very last moment with a swarm. zvz Jaedong vs Xzerg, preferably a match in which he has a build order disadvantage and wins due to micro.
Jaedong vs Flash, game 2 of WCG semifinals 2010, Jaedong comes from 20 supply and a massive positional disadvantage behind the entire game, to a stunning win
