This I've always been interested in. Although I only know a few, for example:
JulyZerg = Because he made his acct in July, and he plays Zerg
Grrrr... = [edited] Because that's the sound he makes/feel whenever he loses
Rekrul = Because he spelled Lurker backwards
Anyone know of any more? I'd be interested in knowing why slayers_'boxer' got his name or what exactly does iloveoov love? (oov = ? ) chojja/nal_ra/xellos/garimto/nada/ -- do these mean anything in korean? JJu = stand for anything? What does [Oops] stand for?
etc., etc., etc.

I heard that Xellos got his name off a mousepad or somethin.

Boxers was because he beat a gosu named "SlayerS" who was all the shit back in the day, and he beat him like 5-0 or something and the obs started saying "SlayerS_BoxeR kekeke we are korean listen to us talk in broken english" (j/k! ^^)

[Oops] is the clan not name and I dunno maybe cause they spilt some juice on their keyboard when thinking of a clan tag
JJu is Korean but like chojja and all those I have no idea but with Nal_rA just his name is rA and it seems to sound good

some people said garimto is the sound a probe makes (idk about this i've tried it )

Nal is the clan, Ra is the Egyptian sun god. So Nal is really a tag.
Edit: I saw in another thread that Garimto means to hide, or guerilla style warfare.
|
Russian Federation1020 Posts
Isn't garimto "to hide" in korean? Think i read that in some other thread, which would make sense since he hides/proxies tech like a mofo.
Edit: Someone beat me to it =)

I heard chojja was a slang for chobo.
But like what the hell is up with Yellow or HOT-Forever. OR nada.

HOT-Forever is probably the easiest one to guess. I'm sure he was just a really really big fan of that korean group HOT.

Does anyone else pronounce ForU not as "For You" but as a complete word? Like, for-oo (i have no idea how to type out that sound, but i think you guys get it).

or what the hell is Chrh? that was the name i never got.

Ddang means earth/land, so I'm pretty sure it refers to his reference of loving land units! I've heard koreans say ddang attack and such.
Edit: "I've heart"
|
NaDa means "it's me" in Korean or something like that.
XellOs was a brand name on a mousepad.
[DaK]Ddong = Chicken shit
|
chrh got his name from typing chogosu on his korean keyboard in roman fonts.
niza is scrambled as nazi? mumyung means anonymous in korean nada means "it's aah me!, Mario!" in korean w/o the italian accent and Mario someone said nal_ra means to fly?
ilovoov - i have no idea

Ddang means land. Anyone with the ID Lee has the last name Lee. (ZergLee, Lee) Nada means 'I am' Mumyung means anonymous, not famous, no name Nal_rA means his clan+the Sun God, but it also means to 'fly'. Chojja means 'chobo' Jju, I don't know. There is no Korean word matching this, unless it is related to some sound or something.
Xellos is also a character from the animation Slayer, but he said that it was from a mousepad. When he was filling in the form for joining YGClan, he didn't have a nickname and saw Xellos on his mousepad.
Junwi is a character from the Chinese classic The Three Kingdoms. Almost all the Koreans read it once in our own language and most of us like it a lot. Junwi (I don't know his name in Chinese...is it Chuan Wei or something?) is the general who protects Cao Cao from getting killed by covering all the arrows pointed at Cao Cao with his whole body.
Sync is an English word. So is Kos. I don't know abot Terato though. ForU is 'For You' HOT_Forever...HOT is a boy band group in Korea. Jinsu/Jinnam is his name. Mingu too. Kyo also is, but in a cute, abbreviated way. Siva is the god in India (As I know), but it also is a curse word, although I don't think his ID is for that. Doggi is not doggystyle. It means an axe. Shinya can be of many meanings, but I think he's mentioning a city in The Three Kingdoms, where Liu Bei stays and finds Zhu Geliang. Eji..I think it's a Japanese word. Pusan is a port city in Korea, 2nd biggest next to Seoul.
Sir@Soni is a kind of snake, so is Salmosa. Sir@Soni is also famous for a character in a famous drama 'Yain Sidae'. Yellow and Silver are colors.
Tossgirl is Tossgirl because she played Protoss for a long time

I think 'giving someone a fisheye' is some kind of shady sexual move which I won't explain here. :D

Well, it should be that those Koreans didn't know how to spell 'Smurf'. Guess that's all. Smurf and Smuft looks similar.

Wrong, I will give you the definition that Lim yo hwan gave himself on the Dvd he released, I'm saying this from memory, but I saw it only 2 days ago.
At first Lim Yo Hwan was part of large clan, it started with a 'P', something like POS, and they had a sub-section of the clan that was _Boxer. When he started to become and good player he decided that he needed a fierce name, and he looked for a bunch of fierce english words and came upon the word Slayers, then he talks about what it means translated into Korean and he liked it so therefore he is Slayers_`Boxer` not because he defeated the pro named slayers - _-;; wtf you people getting your information from.

afaik there's no such thing as a korean keyboard, they use exactly the same ones as foreigners do.

its not interesting because they get it any differently, its interesting because they are sick at bw, and now that they've become something what their name stands for means more to others than it did before. oh hell no u cant hold me back no more, its time to bust out with the abstract metaphor, what was i waiting for? all i needed was the feel but for real what the hell am i talking about?

well, i lived in turkey for 4 years and they use the roman alphabet for literature, and in turkey they do not have the same keyboards as they do here. (edit, i live in the US)
there are extra letters in the alphabet, and the same applies to korean, they may not have r in the roman writing style of their language. this should be taken as an example, not an assumption please.

SLayerS_ was a clan tag.
In China, late 1800s early 1900s, there was a group of people called The Fists of Righteous Harmony, that were known to foreigners as "Boxers" because they practiced martial arts.
|
Elkantar shortened his name to Elky.
Rekrul once went by the ID "][_urker" then hit puberty and decided that was retarded, so he spelt lurker backwards.
Grrr.... chose his name because that's how he felt whenever he lost a game. Oddly enough, it's pronounced differently all over the world, and in Korea it sounds less like an angry animal and more like the Xena warcry.

I thought Boxer got his SlayerS part because he really like that anime. Also Xellos is a character in the SlayerS anime as well and the Progamer Xellos was using the mousepad with the anime character on it.

The answer to this is probably within the 7 pages of this topic, but I'm too lazy to read. If he is "lm", then why was his ID "limyh" ?

Most likely because he doesn't care what his last name is in english? Just only in korean?

THIS IS WHY HE CALLS HIMSELF LIM:
Actually, this is why many Koreans call them selves, Park, Choi, Kim, Kang [ Me and Nal_Ra ^^ ] even though they don't sound like it should in Korean:
When Koreans first built their last names, alot of them were given out by Americans and americans couldn't pronounce the names as we can. Even today if I teach someone to say a Korean word they will say it incorrectly to my ears but they themselves won't hear the incorrect pronunciation.
The names are pronounced thus in Korean [ These pronunciations are by me and I see them as most correct as I'm fluent in both ] : Park = Bahk, Choi = Chweh, Kim = Gihm, Kang = Ghang; already see the difference?
I [think] the reason he uses Lim instead of ' Eem ' is because he is accomodating for English speakers. Think about it, he might as well make it easy to pronounce if he's going to write his name with English letters.
That's the most likely reason as to why he writes his own name wrong ^^

Hmmm.
I know the name written in the English alphabet as Lee is actually pronounced Ee (like 'tree' without the 'tr'). The discrepancy comes from the change in Korean spelling rules during the 20th century which deemed it unacceptable for Korean words to start with an l/r symbol '('riul' for those who know the Korean alphabet). So the name changed in Korean but the English spelling was retained.
I had assumed that the Lim/Im discrepancy was for similar reasons.
