woah.. I never knew SKT had so many backup players... Awww I remember Rumble... He and Bisu used to be really good 2vs2 players... They had such a good synergistic effect

On July 13 2010 21:17 moopie wrote:Maybe they're making room for sc2 recruits? hope not though. makes the most sense for me. They cant ignore Sc2. Why pay B-teamer for Sc1 if you can have new players for Sc2 instead of them. The other teams must follow soon too. We need some insider infos =). What plans they teams have for Sc2 in aspect of the team structure and they resources they plan to spend. Well basically how they plan to switch over to Sc2

That would be my guess. That and maybe they predict there's not much point in developing new players for SC

Couple guesses regarding SKT's mass firing of pretty much 80% of the B-team.
1. The exact same thing as KT did. Cutting everybody that don't contribute and narrow the team down to only the core. It worked out pretty well for KT (Flash). KT originally had like 22 team members and narrowed down to like 11 before this season.
2. Saving expense. SKT not doing well and decided to cut expense. B-team members do require housing, food and maybe some breadsticks for paycheck.
3. The new round of drafting is coming. SKT decided to drop every B-team member that the coach considers to be "hopeless" and going to mass recruit newbies in hope of finding the next Boxer. He is very jealous of CJ's B-team.

sad to see dove and rumble go. old dove replays were so amazing!

SKT probably cutting costs, apparently marketing costs have gone up a great deal and their Q1 performance was poor, this article is about 2 months old but decisions like this often take that long to filter through
South Korean carrier SK Telecom has reported lackluster financial performance for the first quarter of the year, with net profits rising only 1.6 percent from a year earlier, according to a Wall Street Journal report. Despite the modest gain in net profit, operating profit showed a 15 percent decline in the same period.
The profit disparity has been blamed on a dramatic increase in marketing costs, paired with deep discounts necessitated by fierce competition in the mobile market. The iPhone, offered by rival KT Corp, is considered a driving force behind smartphone adoption.

SOURCE: electronistaEDIT* Sorry missed dukethegold's post Lol so the "fired" gamers have to blame Apple :D. The big question is still unanswered how much resources/manpower are the teams going to invest in sc1 when sc2 comes out. Cleaning the team of "bad" gamers to save costs and to invest these resources into the upcoming "market" called Sc2/B.net 2.0 sounds reasonable. Oh well who knows what the big sponsor said and how the financial situation is. Thats why we need some insider infos :D
I personally am reaaaaally curios how it all play out in the end.

the only reasons why I'll remember Rumble is because of his 2v2 and his one game on Andromeda where he lost a hive-tech ZvZ lol

well in the past months skt have decided to exclusively market android phones, so it should be interesting, kt (apple) vs skt (android).
|
I guess if the IPhone is offered by KT it really CAN support "Flash."
|
skt did some housecleaning i guess
|
I am guessing some of those players have been around for very long but did not show improvements. So might as well get new, younger, fresher recruits.
|
I remember Miracle vs Jaedong. Awesome harass by JD.

Man In_Dove was insanely good in his TvZ. Bad choice for SKT1 for getting rid of him. In_Dove even took games off of JulyZerg at some tournament iirc.

That seems to contribute more than my speculation post.
Guess what, SKT T1 falls directly in the "marketing cost" category.
If SKT is really that worried about cash...I am kinda worried about Boxer's contract with SKT.
According to Hyuk, Boxer is still being paid something like $150,000 a year due to the contract he signed after leaving ACE. His contract expires this year...and he has not exactly contributed to SKT's win rate other than coaching.

I thought it was a first corporate SC2 team, guess not.

Boxer doesn't play much for the team, but his "marketing value" (which is what this is all about) is more than a good portion of the SKT A-team.

So I looked up dove....
"Twinkie Terran" LOL
|
SKT still has 18 men on the roster -_-
Besides, three of these guys retired one year ago: Dove, Dreamt and Rumble did not play games after may 2009. Answer and haita were barely there before being released, while bubble, ggman and tosslove were terrible. Given that they still have a huge b-team with at least three guys providing back up in every race, I don't think you can say that SKT fired "80% of their b-team" or are preparing for sc2, at all.
Do some research people >_>
EDIT: The really interesting part is Miracle retiring. He wasn't all that bad, though he apparently had been slipping up big time, losing pretty much everything in the last couple of months. It's sad, since Miracle had been the backup terran behind Firebathero for the longest time, and now that FBH is leaving he won't step it up.
On the other hand, I'm pretty sure Miracle didn't have much in the way of talent, so maybe KHAN is better off going all-in on Sharp (lol) and Turn.
|
huh, I wonder why Miracle retired

Whoa... so many SKT players released.
