STX Soul has retreated their entire team roster from the benches.
On the match that took place on Yongsan eSports Satdium on the 21st, on the Shinhan Bank Proleague 09-10 Rould 5 Week 4 Match 3, STX has retreated their entire roster with the exception of Manager Kim Eun Dong and Coach Park Jong Soo.
Following this, STX Players, other than the one player who is playing in the match, will watch the game with Coach Park Jae Suk in the waiting room behind the bench, and after the match is over, show up for a bit and after hi fives and Fightings, they returned to the waiting room.
This was revealed to be a new strategy for STX. STX's manager Kim Eun Dong revealed that "This is a new strategy we are using from today's game on", and said that "I don't know how long we'll be doing this but for now we'll operate our games like this", and added that "I hope everyone will see this as a strategy while we finish up the regular season and the post season."
Continuing, Manager Kim Eun Dong said that "We haven't decided on whether or not we continue this strategy or go for another strategy, but the details are a secret", and said that "We'll reveal the secret when the season ends, or if we win at the KwangAhnRi Finals we will reveal the reason then".

lol this is such a "wtf" strategy, if you can even call it that
STX always has the worst PR with their fans and this definitely won't help lol

I am disappointed that this is seriously something they spent their time thinking up.
|
what can they do in a waiting room but be unable to do on the benches?
|
There goes my only hope of seeing Tossgirl or July...
|
Maybe it takes the pressure of players who get nervous from the crowd. =_=
|
Perhaps they find it hard to discuss the match and plans moving forward amongst themselves with cameras and all the sound and lights etc. of the studio around them. It makes sense to me.

I actually think it's to make them prepare for matches.

Lets be serious now. Because of the new rule that players aren't reveal before their matches, it is better for the teams to not show potential players before their matches and give the option of throwing WTF players at the other team with more WTFness.
|
Maybe they're performing ritualistic animal sacrifices to Satan in order to win more games.

This. They're going to play Tossgirl at some point and they don't want the other team to see her on the bench and expect it.

this is so stupid, fans will never get to see their favorite STX players unless they're playing

what an odd thing to say

Maybe watching game make players more nervous, so @ waiting room waiting for their turn give them much more focus?

terrible concept and ruins the whole concept of proleague
|
I noticed that the other day. What the hell, STX? I think the benefits would be minimal at best for the players and damaging to the reputation of the team.
|
|
I hope they lose more so their "strategy" will backfire
|
Oz should implement the same strategy so these players will finally get some play time.

AHAHAHAHA. This is really funny. So comical ahahahahahaha.
|
I could sort of see an advantage in that the coach and players can openly discuss game strategies as a group which is harder to do when lined up in a bench, but this is a pretty awful idea. They're telling their fangirls that they should come stare at a bunch of chairs while a game is going on.

this is weird. but whatever helps us not lose 2nd place

I don't know whether this is stupid, or just really really stupid. Hope July quits and joins ACE, already.

I think Tossgirl will be helping them all out
But seriously i dont understand the point of this. Unless they plan on bringing people up from the B-team to play then I get it makes sense. But seriously this is just like wtf to me.
|
|
At first, I thought this was a joke, haha, like "STX removes all players from roster." But then I read it and found out that it was serious and not what I was thinking. Still, this seems really silly and pointless.
|
To me, its obvious enough, they want them playing Starcraft back there.
My guess is, maybe they found some statistics on players playing better when they warm up before "booth" matches. Could even have to do with people having a better win ratios in "2nd matches" rather than getting stomped when they are "cold".
I guess 12 hours a day just isn't enough. The more practice the better right?

We're still second place, and we need to lose everything and MBC needs to basically win everything to overtake us.
And MBC lost to Ace so lolol.

I don't understand this at all. I don't mean disrespect, but maybe there's something lost on the translation...

Lol wtf! What is this secret strategy they are talking about? I feel sorry for the fans though :o

Wait what? I guess I can see what they're going for, but it doesn't seem too smart. Hopefully whatever they're doing is worth the disappointment the fans will initially feel.

i agree with this. while they might get a few more wins with this strategy, they might also lose many fans. some fans actually want to see their favorite players in person on the bench.
|
What the hell is this? They are intentionally creating a greater gap between the players and the fans?
That's it, I am anti-STX for life.
Obviously this is done so that STX players can be freed from the prying eyes of the opponent team, enabling them to speak more freely and pick their next player without the danger of revealing their choice through bad acting skill.
And of course, they left their manager and coach outside in order to spy on the other team. It is no secret that sometimes the ace player will reveal some indicative signs such as nervousness and betray their position as the ace player to the opponent.
As the PL format changed to WL format, that applies to basically every single matchup now. Some players are horrible actors and an experienced observer can accurately guess which player will come out next.
Dirty, cheap STX assholes who forget why the players are playing in the first place.

MBC could definitely pull it off and T1 is within striking distance of second place now as well. They are only 2.5 games ahead of MBC and 3 ahead of T1, and with how terrible STX is playing losing second is definitely possible. The possibility of them getting passed is much more of a reality than a joke.

This is more of a tactic than a strategy. A really lame tactic. I hope they stop doing this.

Keep deluding yourself.
A "three game lead" means a 6 game swing. STX is at 3-0. Competing team is at 0-0. STX needs to go 1-4 into 4-4, and the competing team needs to go 5-0 to get into 5-0, ahead of STX.
PS flamewheel you're cute.
|
Well this is awkward. It sounds like the entire team did something wrong and the coach is punishing them for it. Perhaps a "strategy" to discipline the team or something =/
|
I believe the reason will be revealed next proleague match - each time they come out from the back they will do a performance to boost their confidence, and its more exciting this way since they aren't seen before hand.
... : (
|
People, the team probably discussed this strategy indepth and agreed that it is worth a try. So don't think the coach just had a wet dream one night and cum up with it.
|
Anything to stop the slide of losses we've been suffering, please. I don't care if we don't get to see Tossgirl - if anything, we the viewers WILL see them since there are cameras backstage where the players will be hanging out. It's just to confuse and stump the opponent.

I don't blame KeSPA for it, that would be stupid. It's of course STX's decision and they are responsible for fans beeing annoyed by it. I'm just saying these are the things associations should solve and do solve in every sport and I feel like it is a much bigger issue than mistyping something during the game.

Silly, I wouldn't be surprised of KeSPA created a proleague rule where the bench must be present -_-
|
I feel this is very bad for their team image..
I can imagine the atmosphere, 1 team all @ bench. The other, coach only. If I am new to the scene, I think I will support the team with players keke.
|
I think OZ should use this strategy. Then MoustacheZerg, OZSucksBallsWithoutMe and PirateZerg can all participate in Proleague.
|
That sounds lame -.- I hope no other team than STX will do that strategy.
|
I don't think they need to hide aces. In their current state, they couldn't even bring KHAN TO the ace match. Not that they have any good aces, Kal and Clam are doing horrible this round. They should be recovering their form instead of doing something that won't help much and will piss a lot of people off.
|
OMG... what are they doing to toss girl back there... But in all fairness... they have got to reveal what were they thinking... I mean as we all can agree this team is doing desperate things to win...

First of all, can anybody CONFIRM that the coach send out a specific list of players that they intend to field prior to match, rather than WL format?
This has been discussed before. Nobody can produce any solid evidence as to how the new system really works. Do the coach pick their next player in accordance to the situation (say it's 4th set, Flash still has not played, so CJ send out Snow to snipe) on the spot, or is the lineup pre-determined?
I am still pretty sure that the pre-determined lineup thing would not apply to ace player.

I really don't get the point of this ''strategy''. XD

It will probably something similar to a player saying he has a special rush strategy, i.e. 5 pool instead of 6 pool. Nothing special.

I think you've been given a mistaken impression. Only during Winner's League is the next player chosen during the match. During rounds 1, 2, 4, and 5, the players are chosen beforehand (by submission to the referee?), but not revealed until moments before they play. That's been my understanding. That's why the KeSPA referee is so prompt about giving the coaches a slip of paper telling them the other team's pick for the next match, moments after each set ends.
Since the picks were already made, hiding the players by keeping them backstage can't keep your opponents guessing about who you are about to pick... because they know they've already been picked, and they already don't know ahead of time. This tactic can only, at most, cause confusion for the NEXT match you will play, if it causes the next team you are scheduled to play against some confusion about who you will likely select for their match.
But this is incredibly unlikely. There are cameras everywhere. Your opponents are going to know who's with you regardless. This is probably just to get inside the other teams' heads. But, I don't think any other team is going to fail to see through this.
|
this is one of th dumbest things, ohoho they're going to "secretly" send out calm and kal instead of openly doing it

STX has to be the most hated team on TL.net. Even with three superb rounds of PL and two constant top10 ranked players on the KeSPA rank they still just barely manages to pry some few faces onto power rank.
My guess is that it's because of nerves. They keep playing with such low confidence no matter how good they've played previous games or seasons. Maybe they feel this will help somehow.

I can see how it can potentially take off some of the pressure from a player but in general it seems like a terrible idea. It robs completely the fans from seeing certain players and decreasing the time they can see others...

I don't know why. I just don't like STX.
I never liked Kal for some reason. I hated Calm for some reason that I don't really know of. I never really liked Hwasin or considered him handsome. I don't really dig Shuttle.
I do dig Tossgirl though.
And I very much enjoyed STX mastercup final.
