KeSPA comes up with a "brilliant" idea of a tournament combining Special Force and Starcraft!
Since it's off season, KeSPA is holding a tournament where six progaming teams, KT, MBC Game, hite, eSTRO, SK Telecom T1, STX, compete in both Starcraft AND Special Force to determine the "proleague champion."
The Format:
1Set: Special Force Best 8 of 14 Rounds 2Set: Starcraft 1v1 3Set: Special Force Best 8 of 14 Rounds 4Set: Starcraft 1v1 ACE: Special Force Best 8 of 14 Rounds
Note: All 5 matches will be played regardless of who wins the first three/four sets.
No chance of starcraft ACE match? wtf. Should at least be randomized or something. It's clearly a promotion for SF, but I don't think FPS games will ever be watchable.
This has nothing to do with KESPA feeling threatened by Blizzard for SC2/SC broadcast rights and encouraging SC fans to start to enjoy korean games like special force. dodododooddoododDODODODOODODODODDODODODODODODO

SF Gamers. Special Force has its own proleague you know.

Ehh, well that's lame. I kinda wanted to see Bisu/JD duking it out in SF.
I might go to this when eSTRO are playing on Sunday to practice using my new camera, but I'm taking Saturday off seen as it's the SF players and not the SC teams themselves participating.
Just look it at the bright side guys, at least we get to see some programmers playing starcraft rather than no starcraft in the month of September. I hope someone will stream this.
I hope all teams use this opportunity to throw out players who normally don't show up. Aka I don't really want to see anyone with more than 10 games the past season.

I'd rather have them take a proper break than play this crap

JD's not invited
Oh well you get my point. It'd be more fun to see SC gamers play SF.
not only is special forces a totally horrible spectator sport, but the SC games will be awful 1-sided rapes (also I think the SF players will fucking destroy the SC players too).

i think it will be sf gamrs vs sf gamers and sc gamers against sc gamers?

I dont know about you guys but when I watched the SF finals I really enjoyed it. Koreans would probably like it too since judging from the crowd on that finals they really like SF so who cares if you aren't watching or you dont like this event. Its also not like other leagues are going on right now, as a fan's perspective, more events more fun.

They shouldn't have anything that requires the pro teams. For how much they work/practice 10 months of the year they should have at least a month of solid rest/travel time (should they want to).
Seriously, stagger the SF/SC leagues so that when one is on off-season the other is going on, and use fun/amateur events to fill the rest of the time The players deserve the time off.
I just don't understand why this game is still played, cs is far better than SF. Even cs1.6, but i guess now korean are so used to SF that kespa don't want to change.

It's mostly the korean commentators' fault for missing the kills, I myself prefer SA over SF but i guess i'm gonna watch this series aswell...
Aww they should have done 3 1v1's and 2 Micro maps. I used to love watch boxer do micro maps, the pros had so much fun playing them as well. Bring back micro maps, QQ.
Kespa is goddamn stupid!!! Special Force fans watch Special Force and we watch starcraft. It's two different thing. AND why is the Ace match a SF game. I thought Starcraft has a bigger fanbase.
I'm actually looking forward to this, not because I like SF, but because I'm pretty sure none of the teams actually care about this, so this might be a chance for them to play some of the players we wouldn't see that often in normal PL matches (e.g. Boxer, oov, Savior, etc.).
On September 01 2009 14:50 ArvickHero wrote: so why do they have a SF proleague? What is so good about SF that it warrants its own proleague??
Graphics are really clean, it has no climbing tricks whereas most FPS now do and overall the pace of the game is quite nice.
Grenade kills are extremely rare and smoke screens are extremely important. Grenade numbers are not limited to 1 per player so teams can more or less reset to a 4v4 or 3v4 and such.
And also, sniping looks cleaner than in other FPS, dunno why tho lol.
imagine if there were two teams competing on the UMS special forces maps.... which team can beat the map faster, etc... haha that sorta (just sorta) sounds awesome
lol this is only a one-off to experiment with crowd turnouts nothing bad and the reason why there is only 2 sc matches is so that teams can rest more of their players and send out their trash/those who have no home to go back to.
On September 01 2009 15:08 anch wrote: KeSpa should do another All-Star matchup, rather than tossing SC and SF together. the two before the SPL final was unsatisfying.
Because when you have complete trash like Roro and Jaehoon considered as All Stars, who can take it seriously?
I'm so glad everyone on TeamLiquid is an expert in Korean viewer ratings and knows how well this will be received in their own country.
KeSPA is in no way obligated to care whether or not there are SF fans outside of Korea. The money the broadcasting companies get is from viewer ratings inside the country, and if there's a sizeable number of SF fans inside the country, then this event will get ratings.
That being said, I want Hite to win because their SF team is all females and their SC team isn't bad.

Oh well, I'm a very considerate person as I'm sure all TL members are and I meant it would be a better alternative (though not realistic really) than the stupid idea they're doing now.
Honestly though, I forgot that those progamers are human beings too so I guess giving them a break would be nice, and would probably be good for their health/happiness as well which could result in better gaming.

They'll all end up addicted to WoW like Storku.
Heh though it would be good for them to go out and see the sun every once in awhile. Flash get a girlfriend..
This actually sounds kind of cool. I don't see what the big deal is that they're playing more SF than SC, KeSPA runs both of them so they are promoting both of them equally (or well I guess in this case SF a little more).
Think of all the SF fans in korea who would be pissed if it was 3 SC games and 2 SF matches. ^___^
I've got als a 'brilliant' idea: why don't they let the progamers take part in some kind of iron man tournament where they have to swim synchronized, dance hardstyle (JD would win), play Hello Kitty Online and than play Observermadness UMS in their freaking freetime.
Honestly, what kind of bullcrap is this? =/ WTH is wrong with kespa...
I can understand why some people are saying they won't want to watch this, but despising it, and kespa, for these matches seems a bit excessive.
Seems obvious to me that they're just trying to get Starcraft fans to try watching Special Force and vice-versa. I think it'll be good to see the teams even larger, working to win. Not like it'll mean a lot anyway.
Some people are posting like Kespa are doing something really evil here.

If I've missed something, please point it out.
That it's a SC tournament, and they are afraid to lose their rights to casting it (hence why they screwovered GOM, because they don't have influence there.)
There must be something different between TL members and myself, because I don't see this as a huge fucking issue like everyone's making it out to be. KeSPA is trying to increase network traffic by getting people to watch two games. From what I heard, many people in the Korean e-Sports industry are bemoaning Starcraft because it takes up all the airtime, leaving other games to not be televised. So KeSPA tries to make this tournament to get the Starcraft fans to increase interest in another game, and it's now "stupid shit that ruins the game" or the "worst idea ever?" Seriously, what the fuck.
I understand that e-sports should consist of more than just starcraft (which it should, as cs and wat not are exceptionally great games), but wats the point combining them. Really, lets say we just watched SKT1 vs OZ, and its a tie right now, and the fans know and want a JD vs Bisu game, but instead they get something else. In my opinion this format kills all the intensity of a Proleague match, and the intensity factor is what makes Pro league the most fun to watch as a spectator.

Look, if I wanted to watch professional FPS I'd be watching something like CS. Who cares about SF?
urgh... Special Force, or Solider Front (you can download and play on ijji for free) is a horrible game. I like Sudden Attack way better than that garbage game. It would be awesome if they had CS, so the Korean CS scene can grow again since it's been dead for about 4 -5 years. It can help the lower tier teams below WeMadeFOX become better teams so they can compete with Europe.
I'm going to be kind of irked if teams send out good Starcraft players for this, because I really don't want to watch it.
FPS games are terrible for observing, anyway. It's why CS never hit it big with non-players, it's clumsy to watch. Most FPS games have more players than fans, while Starcraft has a ton of people who don't play the game but still love watching it, because it's a good observing game.
Hopefully teams just send out B-teamers, because I'll be damned if I'm sitting through some shitty FPS to watch Jaedong vs Bisu or Flash vs Fantasy.
And here i thought SF = Street Fighter, man a street fighter + SC tournament would've been awesome... oh well...
btw.... why the hell is there only 2 sets of SC? and the ACE match is gonna be Special Forces??
I Refuse to believe that Special Forces are bigger than SC in Korea, unless someone could conjure up the korean network ratings proving otherwise...
Street Fighter tournaments suck balls, the imbalance is way worse than T6 BR before progamer learned how to use the new characters. Also i have no idea about the viewers at home, but the crowd watching FPS and SC live is always pretty much the same.
lol its free to play guys called soldier front lol. IJJI.com the game is horrible you can wall like crazy theres millions of gltiches extreme lag hacks are rampant and its really annoying.
