I read no Korean, but this absolutely makes no sense. It might be that he has to rather negotiate with a team that bids 100 mil / year over 4 years than with a team that bids 100 mil /year over 3 years, but the other version is totally unbelievable.

If we calculate this to money/year, player A would get 50M/year in the first team, 40M/year in 2nd team, 30M/year on 3rd team but the player can only negotiate with the third team because the total pay over X years is the highest for team 3"

Well, coming to think about this, maybe it isn't all that bad. This encourages the teams to offer 3-5 year contracts with a decent salary. So while the regulations sound bad, the competition might resolve it.

That means the player is losing 45 Million Won in the first year he could have earned by negotiating with team A. Tell me what you would choose. 100 Million in one year or 110 Million in two years. It can get worse, maybe a team offering 110 Million for three years vs 100 Million in one year. The first team would still get the player, even though their pay is a lot worse. I read no Korean, but this absolutely makes no sense. It might be that he has to rather negotiate with a team that bids 100 mil / year over 4 years than with a team that bids 100 mil /year over 3 years, but the other version is totally unbelievable. Still, what's preventing companies from just offering ₩1,000,000,000 for 50 years or something even more ridiculous (offer to pay JD and five generations of his descendants ₩10 a month?), to basically game the system?

Company 3 offers 90M for 3 years.
Then if Company 3 really wants Jaedong and screw the FA system, they might do
Company 3 offers 200M for 10 years.
But then Company 1, 2 will be smart and just up their year count:
Company 1 offers 300M for 6 years
Company 2 offers 240M for 6 years
Company 3 offers 200M for 10 years
In the end, it ends up being pretty logical, and actually, if companies are devious enough to try to game the system, they just end up having to give the player a lifetime contract (not bad imo).

This basically just robs the players of more money.

They have to negotiate, not have to accept they can sign back on with the original teams if they don't get a satisfactory offer but they will likely get a big pay cut. Hwasung could do something underhanded and bribes a team that doesn't have the money to pick Jaedong up to make a ridicules offer forcing Jaedong to stay where he is.
