Things taken to extremes always gets abit pathetic. Take Anime fans for example. By watching this style of animation you experience at the same time a quite different way of story telling to what we westerners are used to. This storytelling gets you exposed to different philosophy and imagery. Taking interest in this, you read up on history and folklore. By now you are soaking up everything about this new culture that is so strange and exiting it almost becomes poetic. You soon name your internet persona after your favorite anime character, perhaps even try to learn japanese. All this while ignoring boring things, like that Japan is like any country filled with corrupt politicians, mafia, war crimes, racism and extreme ignorance. Hell, you might even begin to wish you were born japanese, and BAM you're a pathetic weeboo. But you know, some just want to watch some cool anime, and hearing that their favorite studios realize and acknowledge their existence makes them happy. ![]() There is no surprise that people here starts talking about other things korean, appreciate cute korean girls or listen to their music. Their different culture is just infectious. Them taking pride of our respect is a cheesy but yet a nice feeling. Hearing a crowd chant a gamers name and yell Fighting! while hiding from the camera, still brings a smile to my face and sometimes I think "damn, it would be cool if something like that could happen here in Sweden". While it should have not been a surprise, after reading the OSL winner interview, I thought it was funny that they had thought and talked about the exact things we have here. So now when we know they are really not that different... why could it not happen? hehe, now I feel that I am just rambling. Something about this topic made me finally register to show my support. Then football split in two and which branch retains the name "football" depends on where you are. On August 23 2009 10:13 Shikyo wrote: Soccer, that is. For the americans I mean, Football for the people who call things by logical names yes. I've ranted about this before (scroll down). I'm basically tired of the etymologically ignorant blaming us for the whole football/soccer mixup or thinking they can get a free zing. See the the old rules of The Foot-Ball Club in Edinburgh which forbade tripping, but allowed pushing and holding and the lifting of the ball. Or check out this account from 1825 by William Hone who writes of FOOT-BALL. This was, and remains, a game on Shrove Tuesday, in various parts of England. Sir Frederick Morton Eden in the "Statistical account of Scotland," says that at the parish of Scone, county of Perth, every year on Shrove Tuesday the bachelors and married men drew themselves up at the cross of Scone, on opposite sides; a ball was then thrown up, and they played from two o'clock till sun-set. The game was this: he who at any time got the ball into his hands, run with it till overtaken by one of the opposite part; and then, if he could shake himself loose from those on the opposite side who seized him, he run on; if not, he threw the ball from him, unless it was wrested from him by the other party, but no person was allowed to kick it. So please, if you must assign some blame for a confused English word, look to the English ![]() On August 23 2009 11:27 Tjuba wrote: You soon name your internet persona after (an) anime character, perhaps even try to learn japanese. Haha, that's the problem, I saw it in a PDF KeSPA distributed some time ago (in English). Which I can't access because the KeSPA site is a piece of shit. I think you might be wrong though, do you remember SKY 2004 R1 between SKT and Hanbit? Like 10x the people turned up to Gwanahli Beach for that than the Baseball All-Star game in the same city on the same day.

I'm fairly sure this is untrue. I think OGN finals have reached some pretty impressive statistics, but OGN/MBCGame aren't even guaranteed channels in a lot of cable television packages at this point. On average they NEVER break the top 10 in terms of most watched cable channels. And I'm just fairly sure Baseball is by far the #1 the more I think about my personal experiences and variety of info I've come by.
