FIXED BROKEN LINKS! here's a rexplorer guide for ya~
since there are a number of new tl.netters here who are clueless when it comes to viewing old reps, i thought i'd make a rudimentary rexplorer guide to help. i guess some might find it a bit of a pain in the ass to set up rexplorer and gather all those old executable files, but it's WELL WORTH the trouble.
1) download rexplorer here. some of you may need to download and install the microsoft c++ 2005 runtime libraries for rexplorer to work, too.
2) download old starcraft executables (1.08-1.14) here. unzip the executable files, name them starcraft 1.[xx].exe (where xx is the bw version) if they aren't alrady for your own convenience, and place them all in the c:[slash]program files[slash]starcraft folder. make sure those executables are in that exact folder, don't put them in a subfolder!
3) once you're done installing rexplorer, go to the start menu, programs, rexplorer, configure rexplorer.
4) there are lots of features you can tweak and enable, but for now, make sure the 'load in sc' menu box is ticked.
5) ensure that the 'sc version used' tooltip info box is ticked so you can check which version of bw to run a rep in.
6) go here and load up the executable files you downloaded earlier in the loader. click add to direct rexplorer to the location of a certain version of bw.
7) go to your rep folder, and click on a rep. if you followed my instructions, you can see the version of bw that that rep was played on. note all the cute info at the bottom of the window. the detail level of this info is totally customizable in the rexplorer settings. click on the image below to enlarge it
8) since this rep is a 1.14 one, i will choose 1.14 from the context menu. once you click on it, rexplorer will automatically load up the rep in the version of bw you picked. cool beans, eh? click on the image below to enlarge it
with this, you should be all set to watch those reps! enjoy!

Thank you so much!! Now I can watch all the fatzerg replays!!

I have never even used this program, but now that I know how to use it and what it exactly does i will be happy to see how it works out.
Also: don't go on Battle.net with your old patch executables, I don't think that would be very good
Edit: Aggh, I get an error that states: "RXConfig.exe has stopped working." PM me with help if you got it, I'll check the BWProgrammers website first and come back if I find a solution.

pmed hasup. oh yeah my bad, i forgot to mention: windows 2000 users won't be able to use rexplorer unless they install the the 2.0 .net framework upgrade.
my understanding of rexplorer isn't very deep, but i'm pretty sure you could give taiche a pm here if you have problems, since he's one of the creators of rexplorer! in the meanwhile, you'll have to settle for manually patching your starcraft.exe to the different versions if you wanna watch old reps.

All you have to do for 1.09-1.14 reps is use the .exe from the right version. You don't have to actually patch anything. Rexplorer (and bwchart, lmrb, etc) just makes it more convenient.

haha yeah that's what i meant by "manually patching starcraft.exe" sonuvbob ; just changing the .exe to the desired bw version. apologies for not being clearer/wrongly phrasing it!
|
You don't even have to change anything, as long as all the exe's are in the same dir (SC doesn't care what the exe's called). Just run sc109.exe or whatever instead of starcraft.exe.

YOU SPEAK THE TRUTH! just tried it out. O_O i feel like a retard now. thanks a lot for the info!

Jesus, I didn't even notice this thread before now O_O Great guide dementus, thanks for doing all this I should have done it somewhere, didn't think people would actually need it -_-;
Anyway, about hasuprotoss' problem, it's related to Vista so if anyone wants to use ReXplorer on Vista, there is a know bug with the config tool : PM me if you want a fix.
Also, I have several new things that will come out eventually in a next version of ReXplorer (like winner detection (or guess, depending on the replay), 1.15 support, Vista support, etc...). I hope I'll be able to release it before the end of the month.

Just right click> properties set compatibility for XP no?
|
hm. besides the bug in the config tool, you can't use ReXplorer for loading prev. versions Stupid Vista.
|
haha most people are acquainted with rexplorer by now, but i did it for the benefit of the newer users (who flocked here after sc2's announcement) and who just wanted to get to watching reps straightaway. thanks for rexplorer taiche, and it's really awesome that you're updating it!

Axsynthe > ah, didn't know that. I'm not able to test Vista's compatibility completely because I don't have it at home ; I made all the tests from my work place but I don't think I can install StarCraft here I'll see what I can do.
dementus > yeah, lost the motivation like one year ago but it came back recently so I gues I'll try to let users benefit from it :D

Thanks anyways. It seems I can't select different patch versions, but as for map previews, extraction, etc. They are all fine.
