I played placement match and got placed into Masters which I expected (1600 masters season 2) and then I played a few ladder matches.

To my surprise I'm playing against people in range of 1750-1850 of season 2. Why am I facing these players? My MMR couldn't surely be in that range (I went 50% against 1500-1550 people) or well maybe it could since I'm 12-1 past 13 games or so.

The really surprising part is that I've went 7-1 so far in season 3 against these people (and they were not in a losing streak but going 50% on average in their games).

Normally I would think that I shouldn't be able to win from these players. But now winning against such high masters, whats up next today when I go ladder in the evening? Grandmasters next?

Has my ladder grind (200 ladder games in a week) 2 weeks ago or so somehow affected my mental state going into games? Did I really just become that good without knowing it myself? Or am I just so lucky to be win against these players? Or is because I play Terran (can I say such thing in a blog? ).

What I could say though is that I'm so much more calm somehow in my games. Maybe because I've been doing enjoyable work that I don't feel stressed anymore? Can this affect performance that much?

Well 7-1 doesn't say much but I feel like I haven't really played a close game yet and I don't feel like I played on top of my game yet.

I wonder how people have experienced season 3 so far. Have any of you guys performed better than you think you would? Or the other way around, underperforming than what you'd expected?

Anyways I should be able to play 1-2 hours tonight when I'm done for today with my work and studies. Looking eagerly to see where I'll end up at.

I don't know what it is, but the start of every season seems super cheesy to me

Perhaps it's the addition of the new region? The other region's ladder might not be as good and so you're playing people who really should be ranked below you. Give it a week or two before it all evens out.

If you practice intensely, it might take a bit of time to sink in. You might just be in the zone where you finally profit from your ladder frenzy.

I would think it would sink in immediately :D

I knew practice makes perfect but that it would have such an impact lol :p

Honestly 7-1 run isn't that impressive, a larger sample size is needed to draw any conclusion. Keep playing and report back when you have a greater sample size.

Your division rank is not the same as MMR. Given how many players become inactive (each season has had a progressively smaller pool of active players) it's no surprise that the division ranking of your opponents may not be the same as the past season.

points means nothing in comparison to MMR
i dont wanna sound like a dick but you really shouldnt be checking opponents after each win. Maybe to see their league, but to go and check their points last season is a bit strange.

just be happy youre winning for now, once the new maps sink in and people start playing again the ladder should sort itself out

I think this may have a factor in it. I played a lot in season 1 but never used build orders, just sort of winged it and got to platinum. Season 2 I started playing again, not really using build orders once again but paying attention to unit comps and counters, and made it to roughly mid diamond before getting rolled a ton by P and Z. From here I stopped laddering and played a lot of UMS games likes phantom mode and watched a ton of streams / GSL.

With season 3 coming up I decided I'd finally pick 1 build for each matchup and practice it until it was second nature. TvP - 2 rax FE, TvZ - hellion FE, TvT - 1 rax FE. Now that I have a build that lets me survive the early game and go strong into the mid-late game, ontop of all the mechanics and macro I learned before and watching pros, I've been winning a lot too. And I must say, this game is 100x more fun when you have a build that gets you to the mid-late game in a strong position. Things just seem more balanced.
