They apply to pirate things of old and it is somewhat novelistic like I said before, but also if you really pay attention they are metaphors and can be applied to things today and you can relate to them. Like the chorus that I quoted, it's perfect.
I mostly like Underground hip hop, so lyrics is the main thing for me, more so than the music. Although I do appreciate good instrumentals. That is the difference between most metal/hip-hop fans imo. Lyrics versus Non Lyrics.
Yeah. I could care less about the lyrics I listen for the music. You pretty much hit the nail on the head. Though it seems odd to listen to music for the lyrics mostly, poetry is a lot better in that regard. Each their own though
Just a heads up there are some bands with great lyrics. (Telling stories)
One of the best is Blind Guardian, perhaps you can give it a chance.

Poetry is boring as hell. I don't really like the sing songy style of execution in this video.
Like take Necro or Goretex or any of those psycho+illogical label MCs, they all have a novelistic sub genre of hip hop coined "horror-core hip hop" or "Death Rap". It is pretty comparable to alestorm in that regard. These guys are all mostly metal fans as well, and have ties with some groups or whatever. Like Nassau Chainsaw. So as a result you also get a few blended genre songs metal/hiphop.

Let me post a few:
Eh, ok. I only listen to metal and aggrotech (lol don't know why I've been calling it aggrigate ;/)/techno so I don't know these names you're using lol.
There are many 'novelistic' parts of folk. For example, Norse/Viking themed, Pirate, Tolkien, etc. Power metal is mostly the domain of Fantasy (Dragons, Knights, etc.) and has some bands with great lyrics. Anyways, there probably isn't much in the genre that would interest you. Not that many people like Rap and Metal... lol.

I like it, sort of reminds me of Black Sun Empire or maybe even a little NIN. I don't understand the lyrics one bit because of the screamo style and distortion on them. Unless you just mean you like the sounds and not specifically the lyrics.

Yeah I like the style, don't really care about the lyrics.
btw, there wasn't a pirate metal article so I started one. I don't know much about the genre though so I just put some really basic starter info up. If anyone wants to complete or add to it please do http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heavy_metal_subgenres#Pirate_metal
hahaha someone look up definition of "eclectic" before you start posting doom/death/folk metal
and yea, there's no "pirate metal", has to be a joke
this thread turned into a metal shit fest, imagine how many videos can people link here. I'd link my favs but it doesn't make any sense and i doubt someone is actually listening to all these after first page
breaking off the gay metal posts by adding some real KOREAN PUNK. Though I doubt anyone will listen to it since it isn't SNSD or some fucking other girl band with 15 year old girls that sing something a 50 year old commercial songwriter wrote.

Anyway, here's my opinion on what's been presented. Swallow the Sun is mediocre at best, calling it the best doom is like calling Dimmu Borgir the best black metal band. They are both entry-level bands and I can guarantee you you will get tired of them sooner or later. Doom goes much beyond all the shitty generic melodic doom repeating the same secure ideas over and over. High quality doom metal is Esoteric, Skepticism, Mournful Congregation, Evoken and early Dolorian. They all do their own thing and sound 10 times heavier than the melo doom bands who are mostly just all clones of early Katatonia.
My contribution...
The most eclectic metal band (who does it well, not like uneXpect for example) would have to be maudlin of the Well. I recommend everyone who believes themselves to have eclectic taste in music with a penchant towards metal to check them out. Their new album is free to download on their website because it was entirely fan-funded. The most amazing thing about this band is that they primarily dealt with the subjects of astral projection and lucid dreaming. Most of the music they ever released was 'found' in dreams.
If you notice the title of the blog is "Eclectic music tastes" not, eclectic groups or bands which is relegated to primarily Avant-Garde (Which Arcturus is).
You can easily classify my tastes as eclectic since I run the gamut from Doom metal to Pirate/Folk to Orchestral/Ambient to Symphonic Power/Black to Melodic Death/Death to Avant-Garde to Atmosphere (Like Kataxu's WAR track) to Metalcore and bands like Narziss and Maroon to Aggrigate (Psyclon Nine) to Thrash like Lyzanxia.
My 3 favorite Doom bands being StS, Mael Mordha and Somnium Mortuum I would rate all higher than Esoteric and those others.
All depends what you prefer I suppose. I'm a piano/keyboardist so my likes will be different within the genre. Anyways, the point stands I didn't title this 'Eclectic music BANDS or GROUPS' but, "Eclectic music taste" and I fit within that definition and this is a blog to showcase bands and groups of all sorts which I have, not just Avant-Garde music.
Hey uh... You honestly must not know what eclectism is, because your going on about ONE genre of music. Metal. You have to branch out, give genres like rap, country, rock, blues, jazz, etc, a chance. Because proclaiming yourself as eclectic when you only truly listen to one genre is ignorant.

This just proves that your not eclectic. "I only listen to metal and aggrotech"
actually ZZangDreamjOy , you could argue that there are different sub genres of metal and you can have eclectic tastes for all of them. But the thread title does say eclectic music (as a general term) so I can see what you mean.
