Anyway, here's my opinion on what's been presented. Swallow the Sun is mediocre at best, calling it the best doom is like calling Dimmu Borgir the best black metal band. They are both entry-level bands and I can guarantee you you will get tired of them sooner or later. Doom goes much beyond all the shitty generic melodic doom repeating the same secure ideas over and over. High quality doom metal is Esoteric, Skepticism, Mournful Congregation, Evoken and early Dolorian. They all do their own thing and sound 10 times heavier than the melo doom bands who are mostly just all clones of early Katatonia. My contribution... The most eclectic metal band (who does it well, not like uneXpect for example) would have to be maudlin of the Well. I recommend everyone who believes themselves to have eclectic taste in music with a penchant towards metal to check them out. Their new album is free to download on their website because it was entirely fan-funded. The most amazing thing about this band is that they primarily dealt with the subjects of astral projection and lucid dreaming. Most of the music they ever released was 'found' in dreams. www.maudlinofthewell.net

Good write up. You hit the nail on the head here. also, maudlin of the Well is an amazing band, and I recommend them to anyone wanting to try something new, and completely different.

I have listened Arcturus, it´s ok, but... I love Immortal, Hail Blashykrh! I don´t think Keep of Kalessin is that eclectic anymore :/ but everyone should listen their Reclaim album. It has some strange vibe in it. BM noobs will say it´s not tr00 anyway, Ok someone already critisized this thread not being eclectic so: There is this torrent in the webs that goes by the name Jodel. About 100 songs of pure awesome. So you can just suck it zzangdreamjoy :D Thore Skogmans Surströmmingpolka is so incredible.. the words are so great ![]() ( I can speak moderate swedish) My other favourite from there: De Zware Jongens - De Jodeljump So that´s for all you folk freaks.... More weird stuff: There was this swedish stoner band( a bit like Dozer,Spiritual Beggars) called Astroqueen and they made I guess 1 1/2 records:D ? Into Submission is a great CD check it out people. Memfis (swedish :I ) Somekinda metal. Not good with genres. They haven´t got a label for their second record even though it has been finished for some time now. 2006 "The Wind-Up" is still great and me and my brother are still waiting and hoping. Memfis Myspace Sahg anyone? Norwegian stoner I guess. Sahg II is a nice record. And it´s mainly a group of blackmetallers? Almost like supergroup ![]() Also... I have heard of Maudlin of the Well but I have never bothered to give it a chance but I will now so thx for the pep talk if there is anything to thank for. If there isn´t, I´ll just come here and get mad :D

All your doing is posting a shit ton of shitty power metal/black metal bands, that are mainstream in their own genre. How old are you, really? (BTW Not talking to you Besiger, my croatian love muffin, It's Logan) Gotta agree. Should see my music collection if you want eclectic... Everything from Avril Lavigne to Dying Fetus to The Pillows to Abandoned Pools to Reign... I'm not really proud of it tho... Everyone who looks thru my iPod says "HEY NICE!" and then "EEWW, you like them??" Yes maam, I do...

It´s like atleast you have your own taste of music. Fuck those who don´t! My music taste is also kinda weirdo sometimes, but I tend to listen to music always one CD as a whole so it stays in some limits as in quantity of recordes. Kill the heretics of shuffle! I think that if a person can make a good song it means most likely that he or she can make a whole bunch of good songs and arrange them to a record and make a shitloads of great records with NO bad songs. Yeah sometimes it may take sometime to get into some of these bands records but most times I success. I know this is all offtopic but does someone really care? :D And mods don´t need to ban me for that.

You can easily classify my tastes as eclectic since I run the gamut from Doom metal to Pirate/Folk to Orchestral/Ambient to Symphonic Power/Black to Melodic Death/Death to Avant-Garde to Atmosphere (Like Kataxu's WAR track) to Metalcore and bands like Narziss and Maroon to Aggrigate (Psyclon Nine) to Thrash like Lyzanxia. My 3 favorite Doom bands being StS, Mael Mordha and Somnium Mortuum I would rate all higher than Esoteric and those others. All depends what you prefer I suppose. I'm a piano/keyboardist so my likes will be different within the genre. Anyways, the point stands I didn't title this 'Eclectic music BANDS or GROUPS' but, "Eclectic music taste" and I fit within that definition and this is a blog to showcase bands and groups of all sorts which I have, not just Avant-Garde music.

Oh and everyone needs to listen to Ensiferum, especially their debut album. Black metal is good too; Satyricon, Ragnarok, Immortal etc Btw Aegraen, you definately know your metal. That, or you take pride in dropping names =) So I'll contribute as well. One of the best black metal songs I've heard recently: Ragnarok - Blackdoor miracle

If you have 'eclectic taste in music' it means you listen to the best (in your own subjective opinion) of every genre/style. Not that you like unpopular music. I know exactly what it means. Why do you think I've been posting all my favorite bands from every single different metal genre I listen to? I thought it was quite obvious... ;/ Doom Power Atmospheric Black Symphonic Avant-Garde Folk I haven't even gotten around to Thrash, Aggrigate, Industrial, Death, Melodic Death, etc. yet.

These non HD clips don't do the songs justice though imo (Specifically the duhn dun dun dun guitar riff at 0:16 here and how it complements the chorus so well) + Show Spoiler + http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jh4W5RRjhyc And especially the lyrics/choruses. + Show Spoiler + So come take a drink, and drown your sorrows And all of our fears will be gone til tomorrow We'll have no regrets, and live for the day In Nancy's Harbor Cafe! + Show Spoiler + Now as we stand before the gallows, waiting for the end I'll say these final words my friend At sunrise we all dance the ____ jig So raise up your pint of rum, and take another swig! I'm sure tons have heard of them as it was posted in IRC a few times. I have Captain Morgan's Revenge album on my ipod and comp at home. I don't really like the song you posted, I prefer these ones: These non HD clips don't do the songs justice though imo (Specifically the duhn dun dun dun guitar riff at 0:16 here) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfYq-7zAQFA And especially the lyrics. Seems like you may have a penchant for Folk metal that isn't tilted to much towards bands like Ensiferum and Thyrfing. Try out Tyr. Awesome band. Seriously if you want to explore folk more let me know, its my favorite genre besides symphonic/orchestral.

I mostly like Underground hip hop, so lyrics are the main thing for me, more so than the music. Although I do appreciate good instrumentals. That is the difference between most metal/hip-hop fans imo. Lyrics versus Non Lyrics. I also mostly like hard hitting slower drum patterns sort of like that mael morda clip above (although the singer and lyrics I don't like there). Head nodders that you can chill to, instead of crazy fast shit that people jump around and mosh to.
