I use to play wc3 tft at a somewhat amateur competitive level and recently I have made a switch to SC:BW, mostly to get a feel for the different style of play.

So I played about 40 games last ICCup season and went like 30% and gave up for awhile. The UI and not knowing the builds or any of the meta game really made me want to just wait till sc2 beta was out and learn in sc2. I can see what other people mean when they say you need to be faster in starcraft that wc3. Not having smart casting, MBS, and automine really slowed me down quite a bit.

Since beta was clearly never coming out I started playing again, this time I learned builds and some of the meta game. I started playing against broodwar AI, learning the builds until it was memorized. Then I played around 15 games with random people in custom 1on1s from various forums.

After that I felt comfortable to try ICCup again and so far I am 14-6, with 2 disconnects from my lame internet. I just hit D+ and so far I feel like most of my opponents are bad enough to where I wont start getting good games till the Cs. The micro in wc3 is vastly more intense and I feel like even without understanding the feel of units that I am just rolling over people in battle at this level.

I find that the biggest difference in the game is the economics and how handle an advantage. The meta game isn't all that different from TFT in a broad sense. Everything is different, yet the same principles apply in certain ways. I think this might come as a shocker to a lot of SCers when good wc3 players pick up on sc2 quickly. I started off not being able to macro quickly, messing up all my casts, not having a strong enough economy, and having a much lower unit count. But only the latter two will be big differences in sc2.

TLDR/Note: Not trying to say im good at sc, im somewhat bad. But I am transferring my RTS skills pretty quickly and I think some of the most difficult differences in RTS change are UI based.

WC3 and SC micro is equally hard. But what did you expect coming from a game with only advanced micro and move into a game where you have to macro as well. Of ocurse your storng point will be mciro.. Just wait till you reach the B ranks

Protoss is far and away the easiest race to manage. They have a very quick learning curve (assuming you're not pants-on-head retarded).

Players who are still at D-/D/D+ at this stage of the game are either brand new to SC:BW multiplayer, or are just so atrociously bad they've never gotten out. The jump from D+ to C- players is not a % increase but many magnitudes. It's like playing a whole different game. Same with the jump to C, C+, B- etc.

Keep at it, and see how you do when you move up to C-. If you still feel like SC isn't that micro intensive, you're a very good natural player and you'll do quite well as you progress. If not, well, welcome to the club

Whole your post is incorrect... You are basically trying to undermine his efforts because you have low confidence, perhaps you didn't climb yourself fast enough.
Well, I'll be the first to admit it. THE LEVEL ICCUP IS AT D NOW, I WAS STUCK AT IT FOR 6 YEARS ALONG WITH THE WHOLE FOREIGN SCENE.
You are definately NOT a complete newbie or naturally bad if you can't get C- after just a few weeks of playing. You talk with your penis uriden.

WC3 is definitely a micro game, but even compared to SC it's still slow paced. Keep working on your macro and you'll most definitely make a good player

I think sc requires speed and wc3 requires precision. In the end it's kind of a trade-off.

This is true. Honestly I can't make C-. I'm not not trying, I'm not slacking off. I am just not that good yet.

Yeah I felt this way after switching too, but after playing them both in parallel for a while, i realized wc3 micro just seems more intense because you have more time to do it. Your attention isn't needed as much elsewhere.
