Help with DVD Burner

I just recently installed my DVD burner into my 'other computer' from my broken computer. It is a Lite-On DH20AP.

I have noticed that when I burn DVD's, it goes at a really, really slow rate. At 16x, it burnt a 4Gb DVD in 90 minutes or slow, which I know shouldn't happen.

I checked if DMA was enabled and it was. I checked in both Device Manager and the BIOS. I updated the firmware and it didn't change anything.

The specs for this computer are a 1.8GHz Pentium 4 and 1GB of RAM, which means I don't think it's the specifications of the computer causing it.

Help?

Check the event log for any suspicious errors during the time of burning, and post screenshots here.

It could be a faulty cable though.

Could be the software you're using. If it's the generic built-in Windows burning software, it's going to be slow.

Also, how old are we talking here? It's a long-shot, but if the HDD is old it may not have the write speed for 16x. Although if it's that old I doubt DVDs were even around then.

I'm using Nero 7.
The files I'm burning are from my External HD, but I didn't have this problem when on my other computer.

Woah woah woa, External HD? copy that shit to internal first. If it's really slow when copying, then you have usb 1.1 and no wonder it works like shit.

No, it's USB 2.0.
and as I said before, on my other computer, it went fine.

Well did you try burning it from internal HD instead? What kind of motherboard is it? What does the event log say?

The external HDD may be 2.0, but are you sure the computer has 2.0 ports? Newer USB connections are compatible with older ones, but will have to match the speed of the older technology.

But yeah, it'd probably be best to copy everything to the internal HDD, and just remove it when you're done.

A 1.8GHz Pentium 4 (didnt know they went that low =/) has USB 1.1 guaranteed.

Are you sure there isn't some software setting (in nero or something) that is telling it to write at 16x.

PS- isn't it better/less chance of a coaster if you burn at lower speeds?
