So when I was at Blizzcon this past year (before I knew anything about the Starcraft scene and was there pretty much to hang with my WoW guild and get free stuff), I managed to pick up a copy of Blizzard's Echoes of War set, which is a 2 CD set of their best musical works in full orchestrated version. They also had a concert at Blizzcon that I attended, and the music was great. Between the WoW music that I've heard forever, the Diablo II music that I so fondly remember while idling in Battle.Net, and now the Starcraft music that I've been hearing more and more often, it's been a blast listening to the CD.
(Terran Theme: No Matter The Cost) This one is pretty much the exact same theme, and probably my favorite theme from Starcraft 1 in general. There's a reason why everyone wants the Terran obs slot, right?
(Protoss Theme: En Taro Adun) This theme, also, is essentially the same. It has a new beginning, but moves into the theme everyone's familiar with.
(Zerg Theme: Eradicate and Evolve) This song, to my pleasant surprise, was completely new. And I love it. It, without a doubt, surpassed the Terran theme as my favorite. If they use this for the SC2 Zerg theme, it will be hard to deter me from playing Zerg.
(Between constantly editing to find better videos of the music on YouTube, I totally forgot the spelling error in the first sentence. Oops!)
Your OP sounds like you are just thinking aloud... What exactly is the purpose of it? Do you want others to listen to Echoes of War and share their opinion?
Not really. I just enjoyed the soundtrack and was making a not-so-thoughtful post on it. Isn't that what blogs are for anyway? They don't need a specific purpose.
IMO they just suck all the soul out of the originals, especially the terran and zerg themes, which just end up sounding really awkward when orchestrated. It's supposed to be all about bluesey guitars and synth-rock for terrans and loud distorted electric guitars for zerg. This just makes them sound cheesy and generic to me.
Thanks for compiling those three videos together here. My favorite's definitely the zerg theme, though the beginning of that soundtrack that sounded really mellow and 0_o happy? Haha, not sure if that's how I picture the Zerg's war song, but it's a good soundtrack to listen to.

Eradicate and Evolve is a completely new song - it's not the one from SC1.

Orchestra is what really fits terran, the huge empire it is.

Meanwhile, I think D2 and D2:LoD's music was incredibly awesome.
Matt Uelmen is god. He worked on the music for all the Diablo's and some of Starcraft (as well as a song or two for WoW). Unfortunately I believe he is no longer with blizzard

No not really. They took some liberty in arranging it for sure, but there's a bunch of little tidbits here and there from several of the in-game zerg tracks as well as stuff from the cinematics, briefing room, etc., which is basicly what they did for all three tracks you posted. It's just that the protoss and terran tracks are more easily distinguished.
