Wtf, so I was trying to play GGPO earlier and I couldn't connect at all. Then some guy was like "open your ports nub", and I told him i've been playing everyday and my ports were unblocked obv.

So I went and checked anyways, and apparently Charter just changed my IP out of no where, no warning or anything. It all works fine now that I changed the IP but wtf? Is this common practice? I think my roomie's address changed too but I can't be sure.

Anyone else have this happen before (with any ISP> )?

PS- somewhat offtopic, but how do I check my ping on b.net? I know that each bar in channel is 100ms but I wanna be able to check it exactly. Does stealthbot still work I haven't used it in ages (ever since bw keys were banned from them). How do I set it up with D2 or Wc2 without installing those games first and making a name on them?

..and then I would, ya know, check em'. (Aka SpoR)

Did you buy a static IP off them?
The common practice dynamic ip addresses get changed every so often.

I don't know, I would have to check the bill or something. I moved in here like 7 months ago and it was the same IP for the whole time. Today is the end of a billing cycle though.

edit- I just checked a bill and it doesn't say anything about IP addresses at all.

Charter has done changed my isp on me before.. they seem to do it every so often.
And to answer your second question... stealthbot still does work.. to set it up with d2 or wc3.. you just need to have a valid cd key and follow the instructions on stealthbot.net. You can check ur ping on iccup by using the /ping command or using stealthbot on b.net.

ISPs usually hand out dynamic ips so its not strange to see it change every so often; not sure about Charter though.

EDIT

Your LAN side IP is different then your ISP side IP. Most likely your router reset.

While an annoyance, it was pretty nice back in the day when you had to wait an hour between files on rapidshare. After one I'd just change my router's WAN MAC address, refresh and presto, new IP address so I could immediately download another file. To avoid some of the bad side effects of occasionally getting a new IP, you can use DynDNS and refer to your computer by somename.somedomain.com instead of by IP.

Oh yeah, if its port forwarding thats using your lan ip which is given out by your router.

In iccup I know its ./ping command then on bnet you will have to find the IP used to connect there and simply ping it through ur cmd. (I think)
Terran in particular is a notoriously strong race for a no brain skillhand bot style.

well I meant on b.net, and I thought a few years ago they banned WC3 and SC/BW from having bots?

But we basically reset our router every other day when it starts to lag and my LAN IP has never changed.

And yea for my router I port forwarded to my personal LAN IP because it doesn't work when I do the ISP IP.

Charter uses leases you an IP through DHCP if you are offline when it goes to renew that lease there is a possibility of a new IP addressbeing assigned. Also any change in mac address while offline can result in a new ip

Resetting your router can make your router assign a different ending digit to your computer. It's rare but mine switches from like .100 to .103 to .105. Run cmd ipconfig and edit your shit, ez.

I don't got a router but my IP change regularly. I was tracking my IP when playing TFC and it was changing about once per month.

If you IP changes everyday and you have a router isn't that really annoying dealing with the port forwarding?

Forwarding ports has absolutely nothing to do with the IP address your ISP gives you.

Either someone changed your router settings or you've just been lucky and kept getting the same IP dynamically assigned.

uh what? it's not like a changing IP is a problem per se. The only annoying thing is that I get disconnected once per 24 hrs.

how so? it doesn't matter at all. The IP of my computer doesn't change. Only the IP with which the internet sees my router and that's totally irrelevant for port forwarding.
