Are  KIMDONGWOO and  GARIMTO related? They're the only players to use ALL CAPS names, and they have the same last name/firstpartoffirstname. edit: just asking, since I saw the name on the TLPD, and thought it sounded awfully familiar to Garimto's. Just a friendly question. Thanks, --   | ||

You though that KIMDONGWOO and GARIMTO might be the same person because they have Kim [ wow never thought Koreans used Kim as a family name ] as a shared last name and they type in caps? If you're gonna follow the progaming scene at least recognize there are a lot of people with progamer licenses and its not unlikely for them to share family names. The fact that two people's name stars with Kim Dong means absolutely nothing regarding family relation. Are you seriously trying to argue that all caps in a game handle is a similarity worth noting if you're trying to guess their identity? This blog's quality started out average, bottomed out at Ack1027's last post, and has slowly risen back to this point. @ Ack1027: why does it matter if people understand the way Korean naming works or not? Last I checked, understanding Korean names was not a prerequisite for being a fan of pro Starcraft. Kim is the family name. Koreans place the family name first. The last two syllables (sometimes one, like Kang Min (rA), whose name is just the Min) are the person's actual name. Then, it is normally (not always) structured like this...the family (I think usually grandparents) choose a syllable that all the siblings of a family will share, which will be the second syllable of the individual name. For instance, my Korean name is Kim Dae Yun. My younger brother's name is Kim Ho Yun. My friend's name is Kim Bo Ra. Her younger sister's name is Kim So Ra. My other friend's name is Kim Yoong Joon. He has a sibling whose name I believe is Kim Sung Joon. Understand? EDIT Also, Kim makes up something ridiculous like 15% of all Korean last names, I think. Park comes in second with somewhere between 5-10% I believe. Those two names are considered the only "pure" Korean last names (there's a third that's very rare...I can't remember what it is...I think Song? or Sun? or So or something with an 's' ). Most all Korean family names are one syllable, though there are a few with two syllables. | ||
