Its like SC in the way that there are three distinct races which are pretty balanced. The playstyles aren't as crazily different as SC's but there are further sub-races to choose from to make play more varied... Sadly, AoM was destined to be completely fucked from the start... This was because it came with AoM's version of Battle.net called ESO. (Ensemble Studios Online). This was the biggest piece of multiplayer match-up software shit I have ever seen. Seriously. Incredibly retarded and clunky interface, terrible friends system... match up was horrible... it was actually a huge step back from AoE2 (predecessor to AoM)'s web-based match up system. Being an AoE style game, I liked AoM for its clear rock-paper-scissors system.. (hard counters if you like). E.g. Archers > Spearmen > Knights > Archers What I found impressive tho was they had an extra dimension of rock-paper-scissors by introducing hero units (not like w3 they dont level up) and 'myth' units. So on top of the basic counter system, you have: Normal units (value-wise) > heroes > myth units > normal units I really liked the universe of AoM and its my personal favourite out of all the AoEs... although having said that SC is superior ofc! @OP.. If you're any good at SC (which I'm not).. I imagine you can dominate normal players after a couple of weeks. You just need to learn what counters what and the tech tree. Good luck finding any decent games tho.

it was fun i guess? I always beat my friends by playing greeks and massing collossus but if your friend is talking about balance then he is probably more advanced in the game than i was

It's also fun when there's a Titan slugfest.

There's an Egyptian unit that strikes lightning with his staff and a group of those looks like ghost busters in Egyptian clothes.

But unlike AoE where it comes to taking out your opponents in the 3rd age with the Huns, AoM is quite suitable for long games. I think both of them are more fun to play in 2v2 or 3v3

Isis is way overpowered at high levels (in the original as well afaik), below that anything goes even though the atlatian guy who starts with "O" (Oros??, don't remember) is by far the easiest dude to start with. Odin might suit you if you like muta harass in bw, iirc it's just mass light cav with one valkyrie throught midgame, harass like a madman. Micro comes with practice, there is always stuff to micro if you have the apm to spare, building/balancing ecconomy is the most important thing though.
