well, my first blog post here, I thought this would be somewhat interesting to share.
got to fly in a B-17 yesterday for about half an hour, I already love flying and this was a great opportunity and boy am I glad I did it, absolutely thrilling. I'm a history major and love world war II era stuff and flying fortresses have always just had a mythical status about them, I can see why. pretty much locks in my ambition to obtain a pilot's license some day. I highly reccommend that you try this out if they come to your city(they fly around the world doing this). next week they'll be in oakland area(hayward airfield??) and then 3 weeks from now they'll be in sacramento.
took a bunch of pictures and have a video from the ground that my mom took so it isn't very good(typical).
but I'll put a few up right now.

Nice, you actually flew it?

Boy would that have been a dream come true, nope I was just a passenger. My seat was up in the cockpit though which was cool. Later we got to move around and the nose has a glass floor with the viewfinder for the bombardier(sadly this picture didn't come out well). Also there was no ceiling in the radio room so when he did a roll you could take pictures almost straight down, I could poke my head out into the air. I love flying more than anything in the world but I'm scared to go on a roller coaster at six flags, the hypocrisies in my personality amaze me.

Wow that's awesome. I've been on B17s before, but never in mid-flight. That is expensive though, right?

Wow, this must have been an awesome experience. I hate to fly in general, but I'd gladly hop ob board of this plane!

Yes, $430 per person. Well worth it.

Heh. That picture of you and the machine gun reminds me of when I was in Hawaii and we visited the USS Missouri. I have similar pictures of myself and my brother with a .50-cal like that.
Very nice, B-17s are awesome!

Couple of pilots that work with the organization each with multiple flying certifications, most of which have flown commercial planes, some flew F-16s, and all of them are fans of old planes and work on them constantly. They just pulled another B-17 out of a lake in Canada(it was frozen when they crashed landed in 1944, the crew came back in the spring and it was gone).
