So I started playing travian again yesterday (not competitively like last time, that's so NOT happening again). For those unfamiliar, feel free to skim over this. My friend randomly picked it up and mentioned it to me, so I figured I can help him out, etc.
There's been a bunch of changes, but it's OK. I took them in stride. As far as I see, 15 croppers were eliminated, but replaced with oasises, so everyone knows where they are, and there's not only for wheat but iron clay wood etc. 9croppers still seem to be a-ok though and in fact I've found two near me. There's been a bunch of weird renamings (clubswinger -> maceman?) and some sort of quest NPC that teaches you how to play (but since he told me to upgrade fields first, I ignored him).
The thing I'm writing here about, is the one change that I cannot seem to take in stride:

I was in the process of convincing my friend to not play sim-city (I sort of feel like Monsen lol) but then this comes up and it's like ... what??
So it seems I need positive crop income to build buildings now. Great, that completely fucks over any aggro teuton (aka a proper teuton).
I think I'll reroll and play simcity instead =/

15c are still in the game. They haven't been removed.
You need positive crop over all on your account to continue constructing buildings/fields but you can go deep negative with clubs easily.
Any aggro Teutons requires you to build crop fields fairly consistently. Doesn't mean you drop building things altogether.

Oh I have no problem building crop fields, but I have a problem when I cannot build any actual buildings (like upgrading my warehouse for instance) unless I have no army (aka crop income > 0). There's zero reason for this change, I know I have enough crop, why does the game care if it's in the negatives.
Like, this means when my crops are 10'd out, and they make something like 1000/hour (I forget), I can only hold 1000food worth of army in that village, otherwise I can't build any buildings? That's ridiculous.

Uh, no... that's totally not true.
You are probably at +3 crop/hour right now, if you take away all your club upkeep. +3 crop/hour is the lowest you can go, then you have to build another crop field.

You have to have enough crop to support your buildings, but not your troops. If your pop is 11, you have to have at least 11 crop production (or maybe it's like +3 like Neo said? so 14).

Oh, you're right, it only counts buildings. Ok that makes more sense. I thought it counted buildings + units, that would be quite silly.
So now I'm at 47/21, with 31 clubs, meaning I still got 5 to use up before needing to upg another field?

47-31 = 16 crop production used up. Out of 21, means you can build 2 crop worth of buildings before your next crop fields.
And to be honest, if you're doing an "aggro Teuton", all you should have is a Level 3 MB, Level 1 Rally Points, Level 1 Barracks. Mass clubs.
From there, just focus on crop fields up to level 5-6, and Rax to level 5, before you do other infrastructure for CP or wood fields... for wood.

Yeah, that was my plan originally, but I'm helping out my friend, so i built a marketplace and stuff to send him resources (speaking of which, they added a restriction on how much you can send to prevent pushing lol! I can only send him 50 at a time for now)

back when i was playing speed i had -2k crop production before first expo. on normal server a good teuton should still have like -500 crop after 2 villages. if you are not active enough to sustain this kind of play, then that's fine too. but simcity is the worst thing you could do.

So, I used to dual/trip with some people, was top 3-5 of Sweden speed for about a month+ until some shit happened, and also been top 100 in Finland speed for a whole season. That was about a year ago, though. I have only played speed because others have been too boring for me. I don't know how much stuff has changed, though. It used to be plenty fun even if quite nolifeish. I can't remember the English names for almost anything, but if anyone needs any advice, go ahead and ask. ^_^

how do i make this quest guy go away? he's blocking the timers for reinforcements/attacks and i have to go into rally point to see them

uh.. finish the quests? I don't see how he's blocking the timers unless you have one really compact monitor.
And do remember to complete all the quests before you settle your second village. Finishing all the quests gives you 30 free gold and some random amounts of resources. Quest guy disappears if you settle your 2nd village though.

If you are close to your friend, the best thing you can do is open some farms for him and teach him how to raid efficiently. Pushing will only last so long.... but teach a man to fish and..

as far as i remember there's no way to "un-build" buildings yourself(?) so it'll be wasting me a spot! oh well
i already started doing the quests, i'm on like 9 or something. will take a while though, fields so expensive

Negative, you're supposed to get shipments... 3 shipments total I think. And a cranny costs next to nothing.

With Main Building lvl 15+ you can demolish your own city buildings. Or you can just self cata, but that only when you have 2 villages.
Try to build the buildings that give the most CP to expand fast. Market, Residence, Academy, etc.
Get a paladin as your first hero, never a club.

The basic build order for Teuton, possibly other races, is something like:
(Keep increasing crop levels as needed, as well as storage and whatnot, get marketplace when you need to etc)
Main Building 3
Rally Point 1
Barracks 5(If good income, if not, keep at 3. If you get more income, increase the level as long as you can keep constant unit production up)
Main Building 10
Academy 10
Town Hall 1
Start small celebration
Recidence to 10, 3 Settlers, should finish around the time the small celebration finishes or relatively soon after. Doesn't matter much.
->Barracks 10
-> Get 15 cropper
Gets you a second village in 2-3, maybe 4 days on speed, and gets you a nice army. Let's assume you take 2 days to do this after your immunity goes away, you'll have maybe 350 or 400 or so clubswingers. Of course this doesn't work so well for other races. :/

you should try to raid with many parties of 2 or 3 clubs each at the start. this way you can scout the most farms while having more efficient raids.

You should always raid with just 2 if you know they have nothing, yes. Then you will estimate the time they'll have resources and send just enough clubbies to get all of the stuff. You should be having like 50 attacks going at the same time nearly always. If someone else attacks you, remember to time your own attack to hit the second after his troops get home, and attack with everything you have (assuming teuton). This way all of his troops die, you get all of the resources he took(shouldn't have gotten any, though) and he'll become your farm. ^_^
Everyone in the 15*15 around you should be made into your farm, learn each of theirs hourly production and time raids with proper amounts of clubbies. You should always have every one of your clubbies on the move and you should always get as close to full load with each of them as possible. Romans around the pop of 35-50 are generally excellent farms, just remember to kill his defense with your full army the first time you attack. Don't keep repeatedly attacking people that you don't get any resources from, just ask for them to send you tribute for you to not attack them, then after your army is strong enough, kill their whole army in one night so that you have no competition. Never get allies right next to you.
