So I started playing travian again yesterday (not competitively like last time, that's so NOT happening again). For those unfamiliar, feel free to skim over this. My friend randomly picked it up and mentioned it to me, so I figured I can help him out, etc.
There's been a bunch of changes, but it's OK. I took them in stride. As far as I see, 15 croppers were eliminated, but replaced with oasises, so everyone knows where they are, and there's not only for wheat but iron clay wood etc. 9croppers still seem to be a-ok though and in fact I've found two near me. There's been a bunch of weird renamings (clubswinger -> maceman?) and some sort of quest NPC that teaches you how to play (but since he told me to upgrade fields first, I ignored him).
The thing I'm writing here about, is the one change that I cannot seem to take in stride:

I was in the process of convincing my friend to not play sim-city (I sort of feel like Monsen lol) but then this comes up and it's like ... what??
So it seems I need positive crop income to build buildings now. Great, that completely fucks over any aggro teuton (aka a proper teuton).
I think I'll reroll and play simcity instead =/

15c are still in the game. They haven't been removed.
You need positive crop over all on your account to continue constructing buildings/fields but you can go deep negative with clubs easily.
Any aggro Teutons requires you to build crop fields fairly consistently. Doesn't mean you drop building things altogether.

Oh I have no problem building crop fields, but I have a problem when I cannot build any actual buildings (like upgrading my warehouse for instance) unless I have no army (aka crop income > 0). There's zero reason for this change, I know I have enough crop, why does the game care if it's in the negatives.
Like, this means when my crops are 10'd out, and they make something like 1000/hour (I forget), I can only hold 1000food worth of army in that village, otherwise I can't build any buildings? That's ridiculous.

Uh, no... that's totally not true.
You are probably at +3 crop/hour right now, if you take away all your club upkeep. +3 crop/hour is the lowest you can go, then you have to build another crop field.

You have to have enough crop to support your buildings, but not your troops. If your pop is 11, you have to have at least 11 crop production (or maybe it's like +3 like Neo said? so 14).

Oh, you're right, it only counts buildings. Ok that makes more sense. I thought it counted buildings + units, that would be quite silly.
So now I'm at 47/21, with 31 clubs, meaning I still got 5 to use up before needing to upg another field?

So silly that I would've quit the game already if that was the case. >_>
47-31 = 16 crop production used up. Out of 21, means you can build 2 crop worth of buildings before your next crop fields.
And to be honest, if you're doing an "aggro Teuton", all you should have is a Level 3 MB, Level 1 Rally Points, Level 1 Barracks. Mass clubs.
From there, just focus on crop fields up to level 5-6, and Rax to level 5, before you do other infrastructure for CP or wood fields... for wood.

Yeah, that was my plan originally, but I'm helping out my friend, so i built a marketplace and stuff to send him resources (speaking of which, they added a restriction on how much you can send to prevent pushing lol! I can only send him 50 at a time for now)

back when i was playing speed i had -2k crop production before first expo. on normal server a good teuton should still have like -500 crop after 2 villages. if you are not active enough to sustain this kind of play, then that's fine too. but simcity is the worst thing you could do.

So, I used to dual/trip with some people, was top 3-5 of Sweden speed for about a month+ until some shit happened, and also been top 100 in Finland speed for a whole season. That was about a year ago, though. I have only played speed because others have been too boring for me. I don't know how much stuff has changed, though. It used to be plenty fun even if quite nolifeish. I can't remember the English names for almost anything, but if anyone needs any advice, go ahead and ask. ^_^

if it's any consolation im farming 100+ pop players on my 2nd day =o. i haven't gotten any messages yet but i'm sure i will.
how do i make this quest guy go away? he's blocking the timers for reinforcements/attacks and i have to go into rally point to see them

uh.. finish the quests? I don't see how he's blocking the timers unless you have one really compact monitor.
And do remember to complete all the quests before you settle your second village. Finishing all the quests gives you 30 free gold and some random amounts of resources. Quest guy disappears if you settle your 2nd village though.

If you are close to your friend, the best thing you can do is open some farms for him and teach him how to raid efficiently. Pushing will only last so long.... but teach a man to fish and..
