I'm always tired for some reason, maybe it's because I get bored easily or my eating or maybe its both, epecially during the weekday when I'm in school. (high school) Recently we had a one week delay because of a huge snow storm which was pretty tight and I got to sleep like 12 hours everyday. The first day we go back, I get super tired after lunch and I didn't eat that much. Then I got tired and wanted to take a nap but didn't because I wanted to watch some college hoops (Kentucky is my team but they sucking right now)
Anyway, a problem is being tired alot but the bigger one is having this crappy mood waking up if I didn't sleep well. It happens alot and I can sometimes change into a completely different person after taking a nap for even 5 minutes. If I'm going somewhere and pretty excited about, and I take a nap in the car and wake up when we arrive, I just get really grumpy and just pissed. I know I shouldn't act or look mad but I can't help it. And about being tired, yes I do exercise, I play basketball and stuff; maybe I should do more?

I live in KY and the ice storm fucked the shit out of my house, powerlines on my car and stuff. It was fun until I lost power...just got it back today. Did get a ton of sleep though!
BOOO CATS! GO CARDS!
Sucks that you guys are on a slide, hope that gets fixed! I'm still a bit bruised about Monday.

Oh I forget what city you live in! Sorry that it took your power to come back, how'd you stay warm?
And yeah that Thabeet guy from Uconn is just beast mode defender, T will did a great job playing though. They shoulda passed him the ball more, he coulda hit like 30 or maybe even 35 if he kept playing.

UK going on a three game losing streak will do that. Just when they get ranked, they start to flush the season down the toilet by losing to shitty teams.
Anyways, the weather wasn't as bad where I was, but I still got hit hard and was off school for most of last week. I don't know what to say about your sleeping issues other than get back to a normal cycle and you should be fine. Also UK winning again would probably help raise your spirits

So um, you get grumpy when you're tired and want to sleep?
What else is new?

If you are one of the many people (like me) who have problems with sleep, then I think the best thing to do is force yourself into a consistent cycle like everyone else.... Get up at the same time during the week, then push it back 1-2 hours tops during the weekend.
In 23 years I haven't managed that yet though.

for me, I just try not to worry about how much sleep I get/don't get
I find I get more sleep and I generally feel better. Try not to worry about it too much, it will eventually regulate itself

Speaking from experience, I think you should try getting a static sleeping schedule that you don't detract from. Letting your body learn when it's supposed to sleep and when it's supposed to wake up does alot for your energy.

Apparently they've done psychological studies and people feel moodier during the winter season, perhaps?
BTW, too much sleep is just as bad as too little sleep. 12 hours seems excessive.

try to cut down on pleasuring yourself or at least make it special

I can't stay awake any less than 19-20 hours at a time, obviously a huge problem when considering an 8 hour sleep cycle XD.
try to time it so you actually get 5-8 hours of sleep on important days. if your like me there is nothing else you can do, well except work yourself into exhaustion, but that will require more sleep so you will be on a 12 hour a day cycle. on a 12 hour a day cycle you will be missing out on half your life, if you do this for 2 years you'll have spent 1 year sleeping o_O

lol food but yeah this might be partly because of the winter too. I know I've been feeling lower energy the past 2 weeks, I want my SUN BAckkkkkkkkkkkkk

One supplement that has helped many people I know is ZMA (just supplement of Zinc, magnesium aspartate, and B6). It's technically touted as an anabolic supplement for those into lifting weights as it raises test levels in those deficient in the aforementioned minerals, but one of main effects is improved deeper sleep and you wake up feeling well rested.
IMO it's worth a shot.
To be honest though it could be a lot of different things. Stress levels are one. Neurotransmitters could be out of whack. Etc. I'd try ZMA and try to manually reduce your stress levels first and see if that helps especially because you're athletic.
