Hey TL,
So due to a severe lack of interesting halloween parties my girlfriend and I are probably going to end up staying in and watching some awesome horror movies.
I'm not really into those shock horror movies like saw, hostel and that sort of thing. I've heard good thigns about a movie called The Thing(theres a sc ums map about it ) is it any good?
My question to all of you is: what should we watch?

if you are into classic horror movies watch the Shining, it sure is pretty annoying at some points but there are quite amazing twisted scenes. I like The Grudge as well

You're better off if you READ The Shining imo. Mind you, I'm really not into (shock or any kind of) horror movies either, I might be biased...

The Sixth Sense, it`s awesome! It`s not really that scary but it`s still awesome

I heard The Shining and The Grudge are good choices. My friends and I were considering doing the same thing and they brought up those two.

japanese versions > american.

In the Mouth of Madness, Mulberry Street, and Dagon are some real good ones that flew under the radar.

i loved jeepers creepers. the movie. and yeah, the Thing was good. the original alien movie is pretty sweet too. 1979 or something, but still pretty decent special effects

Pretty sure he was talking about juno, the japanese versinon of the grudge.
I would say go watch saw for some laughs.

Cloverfield was the worst 15 minutes I've ever spent. I got a headache and turned that shit off.
I just watched 28 weeks later but I doubt I would have enjoyed it as much without having seen 28 days later. The two had completely different endings which was pretty cool. If you want to see a zombie movie then these fit the bill.
Edit: Removed profanity
Edit2: I think you should watch Army of Darkness.

Dawn of the Dead (new version) Descent (One of the scarier movies made recently) Live dead (Gore fest, and great) WaxWorks (old school fun) Silver Bullet ( Good Werewolf movie ) Howling 1-??(Good werewolf movies kinda) American Werewolf in london (Og one is great)
These are probally in order top down but American werewolf would be further up the list imo.

The Nightmare On Elm-Street series are quite good... but well, I think there are two types of horror movies that are worth watching - the first of them are the asian psycho horrors, those guys can really freak you out I absolutely adore their vision about how a descent horror movie should be made, they are not filled up with violence and gore. Its all about the mind fuck with them. No offense to movies like dawn of the dead, diary of the dead, the hills have eyes and etc. Those film are boooring and have absolutely no artistic value, to put it simply they are trash. But after all you can always get rick rolled by a "horror" movie with amazing asian screenplay but some sort of teenage US adaptation. If you wanna play it safe just research a bit, look who are the big names in the directing of the genre and in 90% you will be watching a great movie, no matter how high your expectations are.
