That being said, I would rather interfere with the people trying to fuck with our civil liberties in the name of whatever intellectual property they believe in. IP is so easy to abuse that the Bush Administration is doing it. Fucking corporate corrupt politicians sticking their noses into private property. Though I am free-market, IP is not necessarily free market and thus I am opposed to most forms of it like this one. Interfering with people doing less damage is ridiculous.

How would you feel about abuse of Torrenters? Not like everyone who uses Bit Torrent gets beat up and thrown in jail, but maybe like I head over to Pirate Bay and upload something called "Crysis Warhead" that is really "fuck your computer really bad." Bad experiences tend to make people stray away from things. Thoughts? LOL! Please don't forget to wear a batman cape and turn on some theme music before uploading bad files. Also, please take pictures and document your progress, thoughts and journey on a blog, so that you can inspire the world with your honorary example. Imagine the possibilites! You upload one bad torrent and millions of torrent users - regardless of what they seek and download - will be converted to more honorable ways of accessing material. A revolution! Love, peace and unity will ensue. The world will be saved through your epic and heroic deeds. I salute you dear sir and encourage you to take on the challenge and become the greatest internet hero of all times!!!111oneoneeleven

people will download your shitty files (and god help you if you start uploading viruses), and then go and download the real file RIAA tried to do what you propose, and they failed miserably so go ahead if you want to, youre just wasting your time more than you waste anyone elses

Maybe it is legal but you are still a hypocrite who doesn't respect intellectual property. You rob people ( small foreign bands ) who can't pay to have copyrights in the US. Imo you are worse than the casual pirate.

Before I go on, let me just reiterate what other posters have said - the RIAA already tried your method and got pwned. So no, that won't work. Now, on with the show. I hope you realise that both the above industries don't give two hoots about you as a consumer. They're just out to make money, and will do so with or without piracy. So WOW, piracy has put a dent in the movie business, and some star now has to be content with having two private jets instead of three. Boo, hoo. I was brought up in an environment where I was taught to differentiate between laws and ethics. While sharing copyrighted material is illegal in some part of the world, I am able to think about this issue outside the constraints of a legal system. I'm no anarchist, but I do believe in questioning laws, even as we obey (or disobey) them. It's kind of ironic that you cite Batman in the OP, because to be honest, The Dark Knight is a pomo look at our society and its rules, and how, well, they just don't work anymore. The world is unraveling, times are changing, and the MAFIAA needs to find a new business model. As for me, you copyright bandwagoners, I'm torrenting as I write this post. And you know what? There are millions out there like me. GG. Go down with a smile, you Dark Knights of Hollywood. LOL. WHY SO SERIOUS?

Most of these small foreign bands can't even be seen on commercial websites like Itunes, so how else am I supposed to get their music besides having to go get it on disc from some remote location or negotiating through some shady internet site? If anything, my downloading of their songs increases the chance that I say oh so-and-so band is good, and you should listen, etc. etc. And what makes me different from people that just use Pandora or listen to songs on youtube?

So in this case their songs are basically already available for free, regardless of whether or not I torrent them or download them or whatever. Most bands actually make all their money through concerts and performances and licensing and the like. The actual records of the song net them relatively smaller amounts of income. If I hear a song, and I really like it, I am more likely to go to one of their concerts. Because it is a stream. You don't "own" the song. It is like when you listen radio. Point taken, and I agree that is different. But do you technically "own" a stolen tv? And what aobut the people that strip the music files after downloading the videos?

( Actually i don't even think that the whole youtube system is "legal" ) For example i like to watch UFC fights, but i can't get them on youtube because they have lawyers who force youtube to remove the videos. I think that musicians could ask youtube to remove vids or to give them some money ( because youtube/google is making money with ads whereas the content of the site don't belong to them ). Sure, i will use torrent to get Sc2 and if i like it i will be more likely to buy it -.- zzZZzzZ On October 15 2008 03:21 Caller wrote: Point taken, and I agree that is different. It is like the record tapes in the early 90's . Overall i have already dled stuff and used torrent but what i wanted to say is that i don't really care about people who dl the Dark Knight ( one of the most profitable movie ever ), Sc2 or the last mainstream music hit. What makes me angry is that small bands / and less known films or game can be dled without any risks because they don't have a bunch of lawyers to defend their rights and i think it is lame because piracy hurts them way more than the music majors ...

Bad experiences tend to make people stray away from things. Thoughts? Just commenting about the specifics of this plan; it's not going to work. Let's see. You're going to need to start off with a file that's large enough to be "crysis warhead" so something like 4 gb worth of data. Then you need to have a malicious payload that's annoying and dangerous, that tends to bypass virus filters (ideally, it would continue to do so). Even then, after most people figure out that it's not crysis warhead, people won't bother to seed the file, they'll just delete it. That's kind of a lot of work for a torrent that won't hit that many people (remember that it will get voted down on piratebay//isohunt). You'll probably also get an ip ban from both of those sites.
