Today happens to be my girlfriend's birthday and we both went and got our tongues pierced. I'm lovin' every minute of it. Just the feeling is amazing. It didn't hurt much at all when it was pierced and there isn't much pain at all(tomorrow morning might be a different story). She was complaining a bit afterwards about how it was hurting some, but it wasn't that bad.
Unfortunately, I still happen to live with my mother and she isn't happy about it at all. I told her about a week and a half ago that I was gonna get it done eventually whether she wanted me to or not. I showed her after I got it(I'd rather be straight up honest then her find out later) and she's been really quiet/upset ever since. Normally, I wouldn't give a shit and I'd just go on with my life...but there's something different that's making me a bit depressed about it. I have no intention of taking it out and wasting that money, but I really don't want my mother mad at me for the next few weeks.
How is a piece of metal on your tongue actually going to do anything? For the majority of people, it doesn't look good at all, ruins your meals, and I'm pretty sure is obnoxious in various other ways. Make your mother happy and take it out. If you don't want to take my word for it, take Gregs:

i think that tongue rings look pretty cool, i say leave it in if thats what you want. your mum is getting upset/mad for no reason at all, i guess she is just a bit too conservative and old fashioned. they eventually get over it i think. if she doesnt think very highly of it just tell that her opinion on the matter is unimportant because you like it.
i used to have an earing a long time ago (year5, about 11years old i think? 10-11) and i dont wear it anymore because my high school doesnt allow piercings, hair dye or 'extreme' styles (including a number 2... =/) so i had to take it out and i havent been bothered to put it back in.

Thanks. And no, I don't have any spray stuff. Just some mouth wash, that is really just salt water with food colouring.
Earring's don't affect your ability to taste/speak. It's an accessory. A tongue piercing is a statement that you're radical enough to mess yourself up to be different. If you want one just because it looks cool I suggest you just buy nicer clothing.
