Motivate me to play TvT

I need some motivation to play this match-up, it just seems lame as hell. It seems like either I get BBS'd (insta-lose), or hides starports and masses wraiths early on. I don't mind getting raped in SC, but when it's by two or three wraiths and they deliver it slowly and painfully...well, it's not my cup of tea.

Also, siege tank stand-offs suck. It feels like even if I'm macro-ing better, if he has a better position and is in siege mode w/ turrets, I can't advance without at least twice the unit count (which leads to my occasional hero sacrificial SCV plays).

So basically I want you guys to tell me some good things about TvT. The only thing I really like is the strategic play between dropships and taking/holding bases. Goliaths vs. BCs are very fun as well for me (when I have the Goliaths, as it reminds me of all the n00bs I pwn going 2-base carriers in TvP lolololol).

Links to any good games would also be appreciated.

Thanks.

Dropships of doom.

You can win the game instantly or lose in a matter of seconds with just the these doom drops. But the best TvT'ers do it with such precision they don't turtle up and gay out in a long game.

Also ghosts/BCs are only properly viable in TvT.

Oh and this:

what

TvTs are fun

the problem is that most D level terrans let themselves get contained and either dont realize how important it is to break out, or dont know how to properly break out.

as for wraiths, scout. see if he took his nat, see if he has seige etc. That should give you a general idea

people LOVE to go wraiths after vult mine. because vults dont take gas, it lets them pump wraiths, whereas tanks and wraiths compete for the same gas.

even if you get surprised the hell out of with wraiths, you should have armory or bay building or built. tighten your build, and make sure your timing is lean.

Got any tips for not getting contained? I usually do a FE build, opponent goes 2fact whatever (sometimes vultures) and eventually just sets up shop outside my natural base with tanks + a lot of turrets. So moving out is tough and I usually end up losing a lot of units to his contain while he takes the map. Quite troublesome.

Also, do BCs really own Goliaths hard late-game? I'm guessing it's because they can hide and use Yomato gun.

Late-game ghosts seem fun, there's a start.

Well, BC can only be stopped by more BC, and better Yamato cloning.

TvT is one of the best matches to watch though.

And yamatoing golis would be pretty hard T.T

Could tank/vult/wraith be a good combo? I love vults but I don't see them much in TvT. Also it would seem easier to secure/harass ground bases with vultures.

pretty much any contain with tanks + anti air is strong :D

but using wraiths to finish off tanks in one volley is fun :D

oh god

you need to watch some russian tvt

vultures are awesome early game with ion+mines and a bit of micro. And they are really good at soaking up hits from siegetanks since they have the same priority

I'm not a T player but when I play the occasional TvT I have a good time. Maybe you could try some different BOs or strats to mix it up a little. I sometimes find myself on iccup being repetitive and it's boring and makes me play worse (nope i'm not korean at all.)

you could do all of that, or, once again I repeat, you could simply switch your race to Zerg

If sAviOr wins his next starleague then I'll switch to Z. Until then, back to trying to make TvT interesting.

TvT... what a match up. So many say it is boring, where tanks are chilling, nothing happening, and you just macro.

They are right!

Just imagine this though, many points of this match up are boring; but the parts that are not, are so amazing. Drops on sieged tanks, then drops on dropped units. The dropship mobility of this match up always makes the players have to be on their toes every single minute. You drop their base and siege up? No problem, they pick up, and drop you back within seconds. You always only have <30 seconds to make your attack before your army is destroyed, and vice versa.

If two terrans camp, the game is boring. If one terran camps, you mass up dropships, and own his ass with you moving your army across the map in seconds, while it takes him minutes. You drop, watch him move back to his base, pick up, and drop his expansion. You can abuse the dropship mobility so much vs terrans who don't use them, or don't use them well, and you can just watch them suffer.

Besides, it is the only MU where you can use wraiths, and BCs as a regular strategy (if it gets to that point), rather than a cheese.

get aggressive and look at it as a more strategical / timing match up. It is a real mind vs mind game in TvT and thats what I enjoy about playing / watching it.

TvT is boring for most people because its always breaking a contain or containing. and dropship wars can get boring. mass wraith or bc, and ghost lockdown, are what make the matchup interesting every once in a while. and early game large vulture battles can be cool (nada vs xellos wuthering heights @ PL)

and yeah... i have the same problem as you. I used to be good at the matchup, now i stopped playing it so im not that good at it anymore, nor do i enjoy it.

Canata gets mad respect then!

I'd say his best MU is TvT and he MIGHT just have the best current TvT. He seems to beat anyone TvT (the Flash game was crazy).

TvT you can do so many things to make it interesting. Otherwise, it just depends on who has better micro and timing.

Seige standoffs are usually broken by dropship mobility.

What gets me the most in TvT is that the longer it gets the more likely I'm going to lose concentration and let my macro slip.

TvT is hard when you are new and don't understand it. What I like is that there are so many builds in TvT so you can really try alot of things and see what you are best at. Atm I am doing the build that Flash has done lately where he goes for the FE and then makes 2 star and tanks, it's very aggressive and with some good wraith micro an deadly build.

the hardest challenge you'll face in tvt is the fact that no-one ever wants to play it so it's really hard to practice it

TvT is a great matchup, very strategic. And like fusionsdf said most lower level terrans see TvT as too stale and dont know how to break out of a contain etc

get comfortable with using dropships because they are crucial against more skilled players in tvt and will give you mobility and the possibility to move around the map
