repaint two picnic pavilions? thats the thing you did? i rebuild the eagle scout building up from scratch. it took me about 2 years. but i've learned my lesson through this system, it was a great time for me.

wow woopy you got screwed. the two projects i know of from kids at my school were bird houses and then another kid did some sort of fund raising or cloth collecting for kids in detroit.
i dropped out after i made first class and went to florida keys for camping when i was 13. i was tenderfoot for two years and then got second+first class in 2 months lulz

The more ambitious the project, the harder it is to let the boys do the work. I'm not saying it can't be done, but usually this semi-stable balance leads to a big disparity in the apparent worthiness of an Eagle Scout Project.

I built 4 bulletin boards for my local elementary school; had my court of honor ~year ago?
I know we have at least 2 other eagle scouts on tl.net, possibly 4 (counting on who I know is smurfing on TL.net).

i was in boy scouts till 8th grade....once i went from cub scouts to boy scouts i never even got to tender foot haha I was still a scout when i quit 3 years later.
camping trips were fun though.
now that i'm older i realize i have a lot of problems with the organization as a whole, but overall it was still a good experince.

In some areas of the United States being Eagle is quite a big deal. But where I live it must be easier or something because I know quite a few kids that have achieved it.

It's totally troop dependent. There are troops in affluent neighborhoods where you just pay your way to an being an Eagle scout. My friend was in one.
On the other hand, there are troops like the one I attended until 10th grade. A troop that had EXTRA requirements for each badge. A troop whose "elders" screwed me out of 2 merit badges because they were too stupid and incompetent to keep track of a few papers.
For the most part, I found the Boy Scouts to be a positive experience. I will never forget my state bird and flower, that's for sure.
But,
There was no f'ing way I was doing all that crap for the cooking merit badge (and some other one, I forget which now) AGAIN, GD it. At least, not 10th grade lazy-me. I said to hell with it, walked out that night, and never went back. For the record, I was Star going for Life.

I know when my uncle did his eagle back in the day he had to organize some big community event, forget what it was tho. Took him like 6 months plus to do it. I myself got to Boy Scouts but then quit.. Didnt have the dedication he did lol, he got like every high honor you can get and now he has a lot of his stuff on display along with other stuff in his basement.

What is an eagle rank? No, I know nothing of boy scouts. Yes, it makes me chuckle a bit.

highest rank for boy scouts.

I'm having my court of honor in about 7 weeks
I slacked off way too much trying to get Eagle, but since I got Life when I was 14 I had plenty of time
Edit: oh and my Eagle project involved clearing out a bunch of weeds and old shrubs in the front yard of an old museum, then placing down weed mat and laying a bunch of bark chips over the matting.
In reality the project itself was easy, the hardest/most time consuming part was convincing a bunch of stores why they should donate all the materials I needed ($600 total (I was surprised that bark chips and weed mat were that expensive)) to this project.

I'm in Air Cadets up here in the frozen North, is it similar at all?

Here eagle scouts are a dime a dozen.

LOL!! I was in cub scouts then went to boy scouts and never got out of Tenderfoot for like a year or two. I shoulda got second-class but instead of going to summer camps I would just leave on vacation for the whole summer....I don't regret b/c we would go on monthly camping trips so 15+ camping trips for me was fun enough....I basically was in it b/c my neighborhood friends were in it that I hung out with daily so I was like "why not"...Fun experience.

For those of you saying Eagle is no big deal, that is probably true to some extent in certain areas (as pointed out above) but according to the program at today's ceremony, ~3% of scouts make it to Eagle.

At my ceremony, they said it was 2%, so I guess the number is getting bigger. I wonder if LR is an Eagle, he never said if he is or not.

So how much time/effort does it take to go through the boy scouts? (I know absolutly nothing....don't know if I've ever even seen one irl.)
