I went to see Gigantour tonight which featured, needless to say, Megadeth. The other bands were children of bodom, in flames, and 2 other ones I forget.
Children of Bodom was quite delicious, even though the sound was so-so and they played 3 new songs that I didn't know. They played living deadbeat, in your face, hate me, angels don't kill, and downfall.
In Flames I don't approve of, sorry They played for so long too. The singer thinks he is god. It really reminded me of heavy metal linkin park or something. Maybe if I knew some of their songs it would have been alright, the sound was pretty good for their set at least.
Finally, Deth. The deth. The mega one. Well, the dave mustaines I guess. Tbh I was a little sceptical before coming as to how good they would be. Their current drummer is from montreal so that's cool.
They started off with a song from their new album (which I don't have) and the first thing I noticed was that the vocals weren't loud enough and the guitars sounded kinda meh. After that, they played Wake Up Dead and I stopped caring.
I got so into it it was crazy. All the kids around me (most of whom were probably older then me, but I am in right to calling them kids in this case) were clearly there for fucking In Flames and just stood around with their thumbs in their asses. Well fuck them, I thrashed around like a fucking maniac, face hidden in swirling sweat soaked hair and smashing the ramp to the beat, air-guitaring all the solos, screaming each lyric, etc.
The songs I remember are Wake up dead, take no prisoners, skin o' my teeth, ashes in your mouth, tornado of souls, symphony of destruction, a tout le monde (good despite it's recent fanbase of mindless shmoobs) peace sells, trust, hangar 18, and holy wars as the encore. I would have killed to see five magics or my last words, but overall it was a good set.
So yeah, Mustaine still has it, even though he's like a born again christian or some such nonsense now. He expressed to us how beautiful we looked to him and how special we made him feel a couple times :D That's cool with me. Go see gigantour dudes, it was pretty nice.
Nevertheless, the era Friedman was around produced some fantastic material. That said, I find Mustaine's born again act amusing since he would't be assosciated with rotten Christ in Greece, but w/e.
As for CoB and In Flames, meh. Particularly In Flames, they launched a craze that eclipsed better examples of their kind.
You probably would've liked In Flames a lot better if you knew some of their material. As for the singer thinking he's a god... well...at least he isn't a born-again Christian.
I'm sorry, but comparing In Flames to Linkin Park is a harsh insult! Listen to their entire discography, it's definitely worth it. Oh, and Megadeth owns big time!
Megadeth Rocks! Allow me to tie Megadeth and Korea together with this jaw-dropping cover of 99 Ways to Die by a one-man-band Korean dude who shreds it up like a bonjwa of the immortal axe!
He programs the drumlines in a sequencer and does the rest take-by-take - massive! And yes - that's actually him singing, not Dave Mustaine!

Since Reroute to Remain, In Flames has deserved to be compared to Linkin Park.
I'm going to Gigantour to see High On Fire. I loved Megadeth when I was younger and I still dig Rust in Peace (album). In Flames lost their way around Clayman... its just nu-garbage now. There's much better deathmetal than Job for a Cowboy. I enjoy Children of Bodom's Follow the Reaper, but most powermetal (and powermetal-like) bands are way to epic and cheesy for me. Keyboards FTL.
Sadly, the most artistically note-worthy band gets overshadowed by has-beens.
