I have this major problem. I can't decide on a race. I have this mindset that whichever race wins it's the best to play. Then there's this stupid superstitious nonsense that whatever someone else chooses for me is better. I know that's a dumb thing to do, the pros win after 10k games a week. I have hardly put in 10.
Then there's that love. I saw Protoss first and fell in love with their engimatic appeal. I played about 20 games, first trying to get what units came out of what buildings. I always got owned really fast. I thought perhaps this is not a strong race. My war3 mind kicked in saying You played Orc got owned all the time, why torture yourself to constantly fighting an uphill battle against the other races (Elf is really easy to play and very powerful).
So here I am stuck. I don't know what to play, I thought Toss was it then I see Flash doing the ninja imba and I go all quiet, now thinking Toss sucks. I try Terran a couple of games and find that my controlling is better. That's probably because I am from the War3 world where Micro's more important. So I have like 4k minerals sitting in and some 10 marines saved from the face of destruction by the Zerg.
Now I'm sitting wondering what do I do? What would you do? Play a race that's not innate in you , but you love nonetheless, or play a race that comes better?
What is my purpose? To win games in SC2. I know they aren't related, but what is my purpose is to play a fucking fantastic game and get good at it to understand deeper levels of strategy and game play.
I love this game, I can't get enough of it and most of my sleep is bed ridden with Archons running around and Not enough energy.
I seek your wisdom TL.net. You can flame me, shout at me, but if you get me out of my dilemma I will forever be indebted to you.

I played starcraft for fun for a long time, and found protoss to be funnest, and when I played SC for "real" I stuck with it.

Play whatever race is funner. Try all the races, and try all the matchups at least 4 times before you make a decision. I say this because I was at first a Protoss player, they just seemed easier than the others. I like PVP and I love PVZ but I cant stand PVT. Terran I like TVZ hate TVT and TVP. However, Zerg I love all their matchups. Even though Im still better at protoss overall, to get good you have to train. So it makes sense to train with the team with the most enjoyable match ups, less chance of being bored and frustrated!

Stating the always repeated stuff: Play a race that you have fun with and that fits your play style. It doesn't make sense to play a game that you don't enjoy. You also could play more than one race, but this slows you down immensly when playing competitive, because you need a lot more practice. However, if you only pick 3 match-ups, for example PvT, TvZ and ZvP, you can play more than one race, and still have the same amount of match-ups played.
I just play the race, which appeals to me the most, which has always been Terran .

I still have the problem choosing and i've reached almost C- with all three races (not kidding). Play for fun and in the end you will see what race you enjoy the most.
If you really want to settle with one race, try to find a progamer you really like and be a fanboy of him and his race. I've tried this and i think sAviOr is getting a hold on me and making me a part of the swarm but you never know

Just choose the race you find the most comfortable playing .

I am a huge fanboy of JulyZerg, sAviOr, KwanRo, Jaedong and the likes but I enjoy playing protoss the most.

There's no shame in switching races, though. It's not like you're committed to the swarm if you choose zerg (but it seems you're kinda choosing between terran and toss).
But at the same time, there tend to be a lot of fads. Protoss was popular when Bisu was winning, there were a lot more zergs when Savior dominated, and when ilove00v and Nada were unbeatable terran was super popular. Just wait until the next innovation and Flash won't be so imba.

Like everyone else said, try out all the races and play w/e suits more to your style. If you're looking for the "best" race to play, there really isn't. This is probably the most balanced RTS I've ever played. Just because you see some pro's owning it up with a certain race doesn't make that race better, it just means that they've devised a strategy that happens to work well at the moment. It happens all the time, someone comes up with a strategy that makes Protoss totally pwn, then someone will figure out a counter and Zerg will be on top for a while, then Terran etc. If you focus too much on wanting to play the "best" race then you'll end up jumping around way too much as the fads are changing constantly (well if you play all the races enough you might eventually get good enough to play random )
Or if you seriously just want a strict recommendation, stick to Protoss, they're the manliest race of all

I would go with the race that you have most fun playing. After all, its a game and the purpose is to have fun while you play right?
P.S., are you really from India?
|
Zerg - Fat (like July) Terran - Handsome (like Boxer) Protoss - MANLY (like Reach)
Question is solved.

i play orc in war3 and played zerg so just do that

I'd suggest starting with Protoss, then perhaps moving on to Terran/Zerg or stick with Protoss.
Protoss is definitely the easiest race to pick up. You have stronger units, which require less attention; and you have longer build cycles, which demands less macro.

I dont play zerg that well, so I have a question. Isn't zerg a more macro friendly race? After all, if you (protoss) are focusing on a huge battle and you end up forgetting to build units in your gateways, then for every second you leave your gateways idle you fall behind. But if you are zerg, and you forget to morph your larvas, then no big deal. More larvas will still come out (well, up till three), and you can simultaneously morph the larvas instead of doing them one at a time, so if you slip up on your macro you can come right back due to the simultaneous morphing system. In other words, not macroing for 20 seconds if you are protoss will fall you behind 20 seconds in the game, but not macroing for 20 seconds if you are zerg will fall you behind only 5 seconds in the game (assuming larvas come out every 5 seconds). Does this make sense?

i think protoss is a pretty fun race to play, p v any if the games 10 minutes + (for me anyway) you get to whip out tech and spells and stuff...storm, stasis, reaver (maybe a bit earlier), dt's, arbs...at a newbie level toss has so many late-game options, whereas terran goes...tanks the whole game
imo all toss MUs are great, and i've really started practising them because i hate tvp/tvt, but tvz is the funnest MU for sure

just look at the skin color?

Terran is for faggots, and protoss is for whiners. That means you should play zerg.

that's obviously the race you've played the most, not the race you enjoy the most

Protoss really is for the basic person Terran is mid-class Zerg is hard to control (Totally my opinion)

Play protoss because they are honorable. Unless you are a dirty person. Then play one of the other races. And get out my face.
