you know this famous question "if you could take only 1 thing with you to an island, what would it be?"
Well, I am the guy who not only answered "a Starcraft CD", but I also did it....
It was at the end of the last century when I got the opportunity to spend most of my saved money on a two weeks vacation on a Caribbean island together with my girlfriend. Beautiful people, tropical weather, white beaches, snorkeling, sun sets, you name it. I enjoyed all of it, but especially the fact that the small hotel on this remote island had a PC, where I could install Starcraft and play some games against the AI (they did have an insanely expensive internet connection as well, but it was not stable enough to play online).
This just to give you some background information.
Ok, here is how Starcraft affected my life:
- I have started to streamline my actions in RL. For example, I make sure the microwave food finishes at the same time as the coffee, such that I have to walk only once. I also use the time in between to e.g. go to the toilet. If I forget to streamline I get pissed at myself
- After an intense battle of Starcraft I usually eat with a perceived 200 APM. I slow down only when I get aware of this
- When other people try to use my mouse they are unable to control it because it moves way too fast for them
- I got Apple TV mostly to be able to watch SC streams on a big TV screen
- my daughters first word was "ling". I used to call her "larva" until she was 6 months old
- I have actually started to collect minerals
- When my wife wants to drag me to the mall and buy expensive stuff I quickly shout "not enough minerals" and then attempt to burrow. As burrowing usually fails I try cloaking
to be continued...
