Game 2

2-0
The_Templar was down 0-2 in the BO7 in close but demoralizing games, where he got outmacroed in both a shorter and a much longer game. Now was the best time to use one of his infamous (read: not famous) builds, such as the 1 base marauder all in or the 2 base mass raven.
But if this was the case… why would he choose Nimbus?
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/1dTR0Xu.png)
Nimbus was a 4 player macro map with an in base expansion, and has been the most macro friendly maps since Alterzim Stronghold and Frost got removed from the ladder. So The_Templar wouldn't pick this map if he was using an all in… would he? The risk of getting zerg is fairly high and The_Templar doesn't know how to do a roach/baneling bust or a 1-1 roach timing against any race, two of the few viable zerg all ins on this map. Additionally, most protoss cheese is easier to stop on this map.
The introduction to this game has a lot of italics.

Fortunately for both players, their opponent hates the matchup they are playing in. Unfortunately, so do they.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/w67ntU1.png)
The_Templar has been studying professional games, and announces that based on GumBa's cybernetics core timing, he must have gone nexus first. This is actually correct. Unfortunately, much like in game 1, he loses crucial seconds when typing, allowing his reaper to get surrounded.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/LX8bbSL.png)
The_Templar builds a rather early factory and expands while getting two more barracks and a starport. All is looking normal for him, except for the fact he's building a tank. Meanwhile, GumBa is opening standard with a robotics facility and two more gateways.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/e5VQvYl.png)
Everyone who knows The_Templar saw this coming. Especially jakethesnake, who is pretty aware of how BC rushes work apparently.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/kXJTaGv.png)
That's right, two base battlecruiser with tanks and MM.
Meanwhile, GumBa is feeling pretty good about himself despite sending his stalker/zealot pressure to the wrong base. He also tried the bottom right.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/dzB1mAP.png)
The_Templar found himself a bit low on gas since he forgot to take the geysers at his natural for a while, so he got a few hellions, meaning he has 5 different kinds of attack units already.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/VmZkk6P.png)
One of the hellions is used to scout the third base of GumBa, who has been really greedy this series despite knowing about The_Templar's all-in tendencies. It also sees the colossus tech.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/ctLKTgV.png)
The_Templar got his tanks into position and began shelling the third base. At about this point, someone else nearby finished a PvP and looked at my monitor. He was very curious about this battlecruiser build.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/F4dzRjW.png)
The_Templar loses all of his marines to the colossus and nexus cannon. The nexus cannon now starts working on the tanks and BCs and he retreats.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/IJANpkC.png)
A colossus got misrallied or something. It backed off in time.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/RAjSAHk.png)
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/2IBRwQY.png)
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/vCwzqRO.png)
GumBa got a little overconfident and build a lot of stalkers, hoping to crush the build. Alas, GumBa. The one thing about The_Templar's builds is that the followup allin is always more powerful than the initial attack.
The_Templar attacks again, which for some reason meets with approval from his opponent. Battlecruisers have this ability to make everything look way cooler.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/d3AQbBU.png)
The battlecruiser launches a yamato cannon at a colossus while tanks continue to fire at stalkers.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/MCUfNcU.png)
The nexus cannon kills one of the battlecruisers right after it uses the yamato cannon. The second one is hiding in the upper edge of the screen.
Meanwhile, GumBa is building void rays to try to adapt.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/N6UK1TB.png)
Reinforcements have arrived.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/SkCqtpB.png)
The nexus cannon gets a second battlecruiser kill.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/4L04igN.png)
And for some reason, instead of making as many units as possible to get this attack defended, GumBa makes another base, and researches blink, and gets more gateways, and more upgrades. He doesn't really need +3/2 considering The_Templar is, as usual, on 0/0.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/eYE2hv1.png)
The_Templar kills the third but sticks around too long and loses his whole army.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/puG7X8W.png)
GumBa retakes his third base so he can have as many bases as The_Templar had at 8 minutes back in 2012. He also gets 3/3, so he can stay ahead in upgrades. Meanwhile, The_Templar is finally building engineering bays and adding on starports while still building tanks. That's right, he's going biomech. With BCs. Against protoss.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/NT9kO4D.png)
This is a perfectly reasonable command center.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/QHvUwW4.png)
Suddenly, The_Templar takes his fourth. So what's that command center for…?
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/pygLjez.png)
GumBa gets a fleet beacon and two more stargates. Tempests and void rays are very good in this situation against BC/tank based mech. He is still building immortals which won't benefit a huge amount from the 3-3 upgrades, but zealot warpins later in the game would need 3-3 a lot more.
Meanwhile, The_Templar finally gets +1/1 for his bio! And combat shields.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/yOCgS1E.png)
I told you guys that this CC at The_Templar's front would be a defensive PF with turrets. It doesn't even make sense to have one, but they are very nice real estate.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/LOhRWQA.png)
But what's this? Carriers??
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/hNVcUMk.png)
Meanwhile, GumBa takes a 5th base.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/ei4dq18.png)
However, The_Templar has been macro'ing really, really well except for the supply block at 121 and pushes out as soon as he maxes.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/OdpUBwf.png)
Nexus cannon is used on the fourth so The_Templar moves his battlecruisers away. I think we all know why.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/ZuLgstu.png)
GumBa tries again at his third base, and warps in zealots to defend since carriers suck against marines.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/lN59S5V.png)
The carriers lure the marines into the main so they get shredded by zealots.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/Z6wnVbL.png)
The_Templar gets into the main base with his BCs and yamatos the carriers. We were all waiting for this moment.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/sKPDOg1.png)
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/WdrQeR5.png)
The_Templar manages to get tanks in the main and immediately unpowers all of the gateways.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/r539e3w.png)
As The_Templar is still reinforcing and has cleaned up the 4th and is moving to the fifth, GumBa taps out, while admitting that carriers are somewhat weak compared to what he expected.

Behold the first TvP in SC2 history in which 0/0 terran wins a 3/3 protoss.
(I'm not counting bio because my BCs and tanks were 0/0 and they pretty much won the game)
The_Templar showed a much better game here, managing to use a very strange bio/mech composition to completely counter GumBa's tendencies towards non-colossus tech in game 2 (GumBa confessed after game 2 that he was going templar/void/archon/zealot until he saw the swarm hosts), despite not having upgrades. But can he manage to make his other matchups work as well as this game did? This could only happen in TvT and TvP…

This game is full of hate. Might as well involve blink stalkers on one base. Right?
The_Templar has been studying professional games, and announces that based on GumBa's cybernetics core timing, he must have gone nexus first. This is actually correct. Unfortunately, much like in game 1, he loses crucial seconds when typing, allowing his reaper to get surrounded.

The_Templar is apparently playing TvT.
Everyone who knows The_Templar saw this coming. Especially jakethesnake, who is pretty aware of how BC rushes work apparently.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/kXJTaGv.png)
Wait a minute! You can't proxy battlecruisers from your main! Only oracles can do that.
That's right, two base battlecruiser with tanks and MM.
Meanwhile, GumBa is feeling pretty good about himself despite sending his stalker/zealot pressure to the wrong base. He also tried the bottom right.

Also, stim after concussive shells since there actually wasn't enough gas for stim.
One of the hellions is used to scout the third base of GumBa, who has been really greedy this series despite knowing about The_Templar's all-in tendencies. It also sees the colossus tech.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/ctLKTgV.png)
Twilight council, Stargate, fast third, colossus. Seriously, this is a really greedy build and it works because there was no attack until 11 minutes in.
The_Templar got his tanks into position and began shelling the third base. At about this point, someone else nearby finished a PvP and looked at my monitor. He was very curious about this battlecruiser build.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/F4dzRjW.png)
He forgot to announce, "enjoy coca cola" like he usually does. This is how serious The_Templar is taking this showmatch.
The_Templar loses all of his marines to the colossus and nexus cannon. The nexus cannon now starts working on the tanks and BCs and he retreats.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/IJANpkC.png)
Oh he did announce it. Good job The_Templar.
A colossus got misrallied or something. It backed off in time.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/RAjSAHk.png)
A colossus can not kill two tanks in siege mode AND a battlecruiser. One or the other.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/2IBRwQY.png)
At this point, the guy watching me snorts and exclaims "He wishes!"
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/vCwzqRO.png)
"Very clever The_Templar. You've built another BC. And it's not even proxied, somehow." -GumBa.
GumBa got a little overconfident and build a lot of stalkers, hoping to crush the build. Alas, GumBa. The one thing about The_Templar's builds is that the followup allin is always more powerful than the initial attack.

It would be nice if there was bio backup to protect the tanks from zealots. Oh wait, they're just late.
Sick timing on the yamato allows me to take a picture of both death animations.
Reinforcements have arrived.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/SkCqtpB.png)
Although honestly, a lot of money was spent into SCVs and a CC in this attack. BCs are expensive.
The nexus cannon gets a second battlecruiser kill.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/4L04igN.png)
Nexus: 2. BC: 0. Nexus > BC

Since this is The_Templar, it's a defensive PF. With turrets.

The_Templar is also building 2 CCs with turrets at his fourth base.
But what's this? Carriers??
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/hNVcUMk.png)
Oh dear god. Blizzard are you watching? Someone is using carriers!
Meanwhile, GumBa takes a 5th base.

Tanks are actually already in position when this battle begins. Sick positioning. Also look at the APM, that is actually still over 300 EAPM, and it's without spamming units.
Nexus cannon is used on the fourth so The_Templar moves his battlecruisers away. I think we all know why.
