Food Blog #3: Sake Restaurant and Bar

GTR 51681 Posts April 19 2014 00:44 GMT #1 My brother recently came up to Sydney for work the past week and he took me out to any restaurant that I could pick (as I live in the area and should have some idea of what is good and what isn't). I decided upon the luxurious Sake Restaurant and Bar by the Rocks in the north of the Sydney CBD, overlooking the Harbor Bridge. Sake is owned by chef Shaun Presland, who has made numerous appearances on Australian television as the token white guy who specializes in Japanese cuisine. His philosophy is giving a modern take on Japanese cuisine, while keeping it applicable to local Australian tastes. Since I'm not a real gourmet who only on rare occasions eats awesome food like this, I'll just post pictures and descriptions of each meal. For reference, the menu set we orded was $88 per person and the sake bottle that we got for the night was $78 (since I didn't take a photo of the bottle, it was the Amabuki Yamahai Junmai Omachi). Enjoy the phone camera-quality food porn. I started the night with a 12 year old Yamazaki single malt whiskey from Japan, on the rocks. Smooth. ($18) jalapeño salmon sashimi - seared salmon with crunchy daikon slaw (menu price: $24) spicy tuna - crispy rice spicy tuna tartar on crispy rice fingers (menu price: n/a) oriental squid - twisty fried salt & pepper squid with chilli & spring onion (menu price: $19) panko rice balls - soy bean, bamboo & shiitake with wasabi mayonnaise (menu price: $12) gindara saikyo-yaki - caramalised, miso marinated silver cod (menu price: $38) master kobe - confit wagyu, waygu croquette, braised spinach, shiitake, teriyaki & anticucho sauce (menu price: n/a) vanilla pannacotta with green tea iced topping (menu price: n/a) Not pictured: Salad of greens with house dressing, Miso Soup (camera failed for these). MoonfireSpam United Kingdom1153 Posts April 21 2014 00:40 GMT #7 Yum Japanese food. Think I'm going to visit Niseko or somewhere else next Winter cos food (and 16m powder). Went to a Japanese place yesterday in London, was one of those cool places that looks really tacky from the outside but was full within 6 mins of opening because the food was awesome and normal priced. How good was the beef? was it like mouth orgasm?
