So I just wanted to kind of say whats new with me and whats going on lately here. I said a little on Reddit and on Chanman, but wanted to put it up here as well and in different words / more detail here.
So background for me is just, had hand issues, and I still do. I just had leg surgery 2 weeks ago, I'm going to go have the other leg done soon, and then I'll continue looking at getting hand surgery from many more doctors. (Just fixing old leg problems that aren't super needed, but torn ligaments hurt, and why not get it done) So anyway I started up college 2 days ago. My leg is killing me, and I have to walk / keep my leg down not up for like 9 hour days with college. Its a pain, but whatcha gonna do its my new life.
My goal with college is to eventually get a 4 year degree in chemistry and then re-evaluate. Possibly med-school from there, or stop and do something else while I apply for med-school. I'm about 1 1/2 years from my 4 year degree as of now. I recently said that if my hands were magically better (which they aren't, but maybe if I go to like 10 more doctors?) I'd probably still not come back to being an SC2 pro. And I guess I've never phrased it like that before, but its been something I've have to think about for a while. Do I want to go back to a pro-gaming life? Everyone always thinks its amazingly glamorous. And that pro-gamers should be appreciative that they can be a gamer at all as a living. And I understand why you can think that, but all in all its a very stressful tough life choice if you want to be one of the best. 9 hour college day, you think thats long? ha. Most progamers do longer then that every day. And sure 9 hours of play versus 9 hours as a resident, or working doing whatever (I'm a previous lawn care guy so I know work is harder then college) is still not amazingly easy.
Gaming all day every day isn't healthy for me as well. I lost a lot of weight when I couldn't play on the computer at all and had help from others (victor, robbie). I don't blame Sc2 for my weight problems at all just saying for me its easier without constantly sitting in front of the computer.
Traveling is tough. Especially when you travel once every week for 3 days or more. Or even once every other week. Its like your living two lives. Now imagine throwing in that sometimes you stay for a few weeks traveling in a row. And when your traveling its not a vacation. Very rarely do I do anything non-gaming related at these events. Your still playing a game (work) wherever you go traveling. And a lot of the times your under a lot more stress and you put in a lot more effort when you travel. Then you reap the reward of all your hard work.... or you get 6 pooled, or 2 raxed... ever seen someone rage really hard? Maybe this happened to them. It'd be like taking a risk and hoping it pays off, gambling on your own skill for instance. Then you lose. Maybe it was your mistake that you died, and then you just get angry at yourself. Now imagine repeating this over and over.
You may still get paid, but you know unless you win it won't continue, so the stress is up again! Maybe your job isn't stable, even though you worked that hard! It can be a tough job I assure you. Oh wait, you have a contract. Good thing in e-sports those are very reliable. Hm, maybe not if past experience is any guide. (TL is the best thing ever, not talking about those gods among men). Just in general e-sports teams can be shady. Even companies are shady. IPL still not paying players for instance is just one thing. One thing of many.
Hurray though now Blizzard is organizing tournaments for players. Anyway I don't even need to go over that, but clearly it doens't help players either. So now say that I'll stream. I'll just stream non-stop and maybe that'll work to pay my bills while I prep for my next tournament. But ya know what I lag a little bit when I stream / play. Also its harder because your playing for others watching. Maybe you forget to run some commercials. Maybe you decided to stream when Idra and Stephano are streaming so no one watched you. Maybe Ti3 is on and WCS at the same time and you just wanted to stream some GM level games. Its not always doable in a stable way. It is a tough job, where as other jobs can be stable (doctor for instance).
Anyway I can ramble on forever about my complaints about how it is tough to be a pro-gamer. And trust me I realize in terms of easiness its easier to be a mediocre pro-gamer then a mediocre lawn mower. But being a top level at either one takes tremendous effort and some luck. And who wants to be a mediocre pro-gamer? Not me. I see stuff like "when was the last time Sheth actually did anything worth while?". And despite having hand issues, even before that I wasn't tremendously impactful. I beat rain, I beat polt at an MLG, I did well in team leagues, and I did charity events and did well in some online events and tried a lot at lans. (Taeja knocked me out like 10x, and if it wasnt him it was HerO). I've gotten knocked out of NASL by the winner, then knocked out of Dreamhack by the winner (Puma/Hero), I lost 1-2 vs Leenock when he won the MLG. All in all its tough out there.
I have no one to blame but myself for not winning those. Maybe I wasn't skilled enough. Maybe instead of 10 hours I needed 11. Maybe I needed to live in Korea and completely abandon my family. But again, I'm not quite Naniwa, or TLO. I have a burning desire to be good, but not at an extremely high cost. And I realize thats what u need in e-sports. And trust me, I gave up a lot. I tried what I consider my best in Sc2. But it just wasn't enough. We can't all be winners. Games need losers too.
So anyway of late I'm starting up college. If my hands were better, maybe I'd give SC2 a try again. But maybe not. Maybe I'd just try and play/stream some on the side. Maybe I'd just continue to watch starcraft, cheer for my team and wish that one day I could live that life again deep down inside. Because even though its not the easiest, it was by far some of the best times of my life. And if I had to do anything over again, I'd mostly keep it the same.

Sorry for all that pain, man.
|
it would be really sad to see you go and im sorry to hear about everything
|
I think it is a smart move. It isn't easy to justify being a pro gamer. I am sad that one of my favorite players/people in esports that I got to know over the years, and cheered for is basically done with SC. But I am happy to know you are moving forward in life. Good luck with chemistry, I only took the gen chem 1 and 2 classes but man they were tough and time demanding. I do hope to hear more from you in esports world, and who knows maybe by the time you are done with med school (if you go that route,) esports will be big enough to justify having a team doctor on staff! Anyway, Sheth thanks for being such an awesome person and player and best of luck to you sir.
|
Miss you Sheth. Hope your hands get better. Even if you never play professionally again. Hope to still see you commentate or on community shows and stream (if your hands are better) But best of luck in school. Thanks for the update.
|
Great blog. To me, you are a winner, Sheth. Good luck with whatever you'll decide to do.
|
I don't blame you for moving on. Honestly people do think that being a progamer is the luxurious awesome life that they want, but they really don't have a clue (I don't either other then playing).
While I have never been a pro and never had that stress, I just know from playing how frustrating that is. I can only imagine how much more frustrating it is when you play 2-3x more then I do (I play 3-4 hours a day at most) and still not do well at a LAN event. If you are on a team that does pay (EG/TL) it's still going to be stressful, you have to give exposure and do well at events. I really couldn't imagine the amount of stress/frustration they get, I imagine they get a lot more then I do (in terms of frustration, I know they are obviously way more stressed) because they are expected to do well.
If you don't, you get shit on by the community. You play a bad game and lose because of whatever reason? Nobody cares, you will still get shit on. I give you kudos for doing it for the past couple years (I don't think you have really played for the past year?).
Good luck on moving on and I imagine it's a lot less stressful, albeit a little more boring to .

Best of luck with your new path Sheth, you'll do amazing things wherever you go. Being in esports is far from easy, you basically have to sacrifice everything else in your life, and it can be an incredibly unhealthy lifestyle. We'll always be here for you if you want to be involved again! In any capacity
Take care of yourself!
|
I hope you decide to do a bit of casting in the future. I was always impressed with your casting.
|
It was amazing to see you play and wish you all the best for college.
|
I hope the surgeries go well. I just had surgery for a torn ACL and I can only imagine what you must be going through with that many on the horizon. That and the way you carried yourself always made you kind of a hero to me. Good luck with the surgeries and college! Hopefully, we can meet on the ladder in SC2 or another game some day! :D
|
Nothing but <3 Sheth. Hope you still hang around here. Was always hoping you would break that last barrier and get a victory you truly deserved. Best of luck in life though. Manner bear fighting!
|
Umm, I'm sorry sir : "But it just wasn't enough. We can't all be winners. Games need losers too." doesn't apply to you. Your most definitely an awesome SC2 player and have accomplished a lot. Also, personality wise, your incredible for the community. Best of luck man for sure :-D

Although it makes me a little sad to see you leaving progaming, I wish you the best of luck in college! I know how much time that takes up, trust me. But it is worth it in that it can help you find a stable job. However I also know its hard to completely give up something you love, so I'm hopeful I'll get to see your stream once again. Watching you streams were always one of my favorite ways to start my summer mornings Hope to see you around more often bud

Good luck yo, gotta do what you gotta do. <3

It's been a lot of fun watching and rooting for you the last few years. Best of luck in college, and thanks for being the nicest guy in esports.

Sad to see you go sheth.

Your health is more important than anything else.
And a good education will certainly open up more doors for you in the future!
Best of luck to you, Sheth

|
Sheth! You are still awesome! Thanks for giving it your all. You gosu as fuck! GL in life
|
Good luck with school and rehabilitation. Even if you don't play competitively you will always have a place in the community. Don't be a stranger!
|
Best of luck in school Sheth! And I am glad to see you are taking care of your health issues rather than ignoring them as some pro's are known to do. I'll miss cheering for you in tournaments. After meeting you at the last providence you became my favorite player. You just had this wonderful friendly vibe about you that was just inspiring, and I hope you don't lose that.
Best of luck in all you do and hope you can figure out those hand issues! Gl hf! <3
|
Don't ever think of yourself as a loser when it comes to this. You had the strength to decide what was truly best for you, and the courage to actually take that path. You will be someone a fan of Liquid will always remember.
|
Regarding your hand and leg issues I feel that this quote is rather fitting.
A fly, Sir, may sting a stately horse and make him wince; but, one is but an insect, and the other is a horse still. - Samuel Johnson
Go off and run into the night, across the fields, through the forest, and may you never stop running until you have found your new stable with new friends, new colleagues, and new adventures to be had.
TL will still be here when you come back.

Good luck sheth! I hope you hope on dota a little here and again~

That was really sad man. I hope you come back to the game at least streaming. You are a very very talented player. Wish you the best of luck at school and SC2. I hope and suggest you do the same thorzain did (school and sc2 simultaneously).
|
we dont care if you win or lose, if you play or not, we just love you for who you are good luck and take care
|
Always a fan man. Always a fan. Would love to see you stream again because it was super fun but I would rather you do what is best for you. GLGL with whatever you choose. Blessings.
|
Best of luck to you, Sheth. Always been a big fan of yours, and hope you start feeling well soon.
|
There really is just so much sacrifice to your life and your health you have to take to be a pro-gamer. I think its completely understandable to pursue another path that's more sustainable for yourself. Hopefully your health & plans on university and med-school work out in the future.
|
Thanks for the down to earth reality, Sheth. Best wishes to you as you continue your college studies, and blessings hf!

Stay awesome Sheth, everyone will support you whether you are in esports or not.

Sheth, in all your time that I saw, you were an excellent ambassador for your team and a joy to watch. You always kept a positive, constructive attitude outwardly facing and always seemed happy to talk, say hello, or help out others.
You are not a loser. You are making a calculated choice to GG this game to improve your chances in the series of your life. And you are making that smart choice, based on the circumstances, playing for the long game. I hope your future is bright, and that you achieve your goals. I hope you get some relief from your physical issues (nothing sucks more than being in constant or frequent pain and having a doctor tell you "well, there's nothing we can do to fix it - try taking these MASSIVE PAINKILLERS when you need to) and continue to improve your health. (I'm jelly.)
If you decide to hang out and just be a fan when you have the time - we'd all love you. If you have to completely leave to make sure things get done - we'd all love you. If you come back sometime and start playing LoL professionally... okay, some would whine, but we'd all still love you.
You are perhaps one of a very few players I can honestly say is well thought of by everyone I've ever seen, even the people that are somehow anti-fans. And I think you are still top GM Mafia.
GL HF in all your future endeavors.

I would like to say that I appreciate you giving us a glimpse look at what it's like being a pro gamer. Being a pro gamer is really hard and most of us know that there is lots to sacrifice. I think its a great idea that you are going back to school and it probably is the best idea. It is hard for us to see you go but we understand and everyone will support your decision. Best of luck sheth!

We never got that ice cream in NYC when you were here for the MLG arena ...
|
Sad to see you go, I still remember meeting you at Blizzcon and trying to get a picture but my buddies blackberry wouldn't work
In a perfect world Sc2 would be thriving but that's not the path we are going down, sad :'(
|
Sheth is seriously one of the coolest dudes out there. And when people get things taken away from them that they care about, you know some people grieve really hard and they get angry and they attack other people and do all of these negative things, but you see none of that with Sheth. And that's what I think makes him such a cool person. He never has anything bad to say about anybody. Even when it's deserved. He always seems to be in a good mood and he lifts everyone's spirits whenever he's around. I'm glad to see that he's taking it so well. You're a champ, Sheth. The world needs more people like you!
|
You are a winner Sheth!
I'm not even joking when I thought you had amazing potential. I thought you would go far and be up there with the top foreigners. Then I heard you had wrist issues and I thought that when you would finally clear them up, it would take some time but you would really start displaying your potential.
It's sad to hear you say you probably won't continue as a pro-gamer, but rest assured that you made a difference. All-kill over EG, that must have felt good.
|
I remember meeting you at E3 when TL was there.. you were by far the friendliest guys in the business I've ever had the privilege of talking to.
Take care dude and good luck with your endeavors

GL with everything Sheth. You have been one of my favourite players since you came on to the scene, and I won't ever forget how awesome you are
|
Sad to see another pro-player leave for med-school, but at least I'm glad that you will all be my future colleagues =D
|
I mostly agree with what you said, it's just sad that it seems like I won't see you play sc2 competitively anymore. I had a similar experience in life having to quit professional handball because of lower back problems that would have gotten really bad if I continued. So I went to college and this year I graduated, my mind is a lot sharper and I think I am better off. For me as a fan I would have liked the player LiquidSheth to keep playing but I understand that life is more complex than that. I wish you to have the energy and will to work hard at your daily struggles and will surely tune in to one of the best streams with commentary there is.
|
Sheth, ill say it again, you always have been #1 manner bear in the community and im pretty sure you always will be, its good to read the path you have chosen, its also a great read like all of the other blogs you write, full of detail
Now to the tough news, not seing such a great player playing competitively anymore is a big loss to everyone, but im 100% sure you will stick around and entertain people, this type of thing is always a hard choice, but going on to do college and a degree is always a respectable choice.
Think i can say this an mean it from everyone, thank you for being such an amazing guy in the community!

You are awesome. I wish you all the best

Sorry to hear about your health issues. I think you made the right choice because as you mentioned, being a progamer is stressful and unstable compared to a profession but keep in mind that most professions out there can also case a great deal of stress. You're expected to perform otherwise you can get fired etc... Best of luck in your recovery!
|
I wish you the best of luck, Sheth! You did a huge amount of awesome as a pro-gamer, and you will always be one of the most appreciated members of the SC community. If or whenever you decide to come back, no matter what role, people will be thrilled to have you back. Take care && have fun!
|
Good luck Sheth; we'll miss you!
|
Good luck with college Sheth, life is tough be we can just keep trying! Maybe we will see you commentate some in the future, would really love if you sticked around somehow.

Still remember the EG all kill, take care Sheth <3 You're awesome!
|
don`t worry too much. Enjoy your life. Good education is the best footing for a succesful life.
|
Best of luck in your future endeavors Sheth. You'll always remain as one of my most favorite Team Liquid players. It's sad too see the manner bear go into hibernation, but I'm sure you'll be able to do great things in life. Get well soon, and get going

Good luck man, it really says a lot about someone's maturity and mindset when they are able to transition gracefully into a different career. Especially when it's something like pro-gaming which we all have such a strong passion for -- it must be tempting to think "what if I just put in another couple of months of hardcore practice", etc. But at the end of the day you'll hopefully get to study and work with something else you have passion for and still get to enjoy the thrills of esports from the sidelines.
All in all you had a resoundingly positive impact in our community, and even though you never got to be a big winner -- you made SC2 a more exciting place to be (especially back when we were just kicking things off in 2010-2011). And who can forget when you all-killed EG in the IPL TAC 2 I remember meeting you at the TL Mafia afterparty at MLG Providence and it became obvious to me that you're a guy who genuinely enjoys making the community a better place while making new friends along the way.
Cheers Sheth, and GL with your next adventure
|
Still think a lot about you when the name of Team Liquid is mentioned. I hope that you will find peace in your decisions and that you'll finish your degree quickly. Thanks for being one of the most inspirational Zerg players out there.
gogo Sheth!
|
Good luck Sheth! I was always very impressed with your play and I am glad you took a hard decision and decided to go for it. Best of luck in your new path and have fun!

Hey, good luck in school! Just want to say that Chemistry is pretty awesome (I'm a biologist, but did a bit of synthesis and a lot of mass spec during my phd), and hope you'll finish with a good grade.
It seems that you have a solid back-up plan, which is something you need to be applauded for - even the best of the best (like MC) have made ~400k over their career so far, which is 8 years of work in a relatively ok job, to put it in perspective. Being a full-time pro gamer is a big risk, b/c you're spending time you could've spend on your education, where you can also earn a pretty good salary eventually. I also can't see how all retiring pro players will get jobs as commentators, the scene is not large enough for that (unfortunately), so many of you guys must think of back-up plans...
Hope to see you soon streaming with commentary, can't wait to see you more often online!
What kind of chemistry you like most?
|
Best of luck with your hands and school sheth (or anything you want to do in the future for that matter)!
I hope you will in some way still stay in touch with the community because youre such an awesome personality to have onboard!
|
it will be great if you can just stream every once a while to let us know how you do :D
|
Good luck in your life Sheth. I hope you will not walk away entirely from Esports
|
hey sheth... you probably will not read this: but honestly from all my heart I wish you all the best in the world. You said games needed loosers... but honestly and I think I can speak for almost all people on this forum: you are not a looser of esports. For many you where a hero. A light in the dark place that foreigners have to live in, when the light at the end of the tunnel is just the miners lamp of a korean pro...
You inspired many people, not only in NA but also in europe. You were on day9s show over and over, you tactics were discussed and I said earlier: you were a hope. A hope that foreigners can do well. And maybe you think you didn't fullfill this goal: You did. Maybe you didn't won anything: but you were present. You were seen, you were and are known to many people. And almost everybody in SC2 esports knows you... you are famous in esports. So you achieved more than many other people in live and man.. you are young ... You achieved more in your short live than many other people in their lifetime.
that's said: stay strong. Do your med school... it's a great job and well respected aswell. Don't forget us... the crowd that cheered for you. cheers!
|
This makes me incredibly sad, but its completely understandable. You are the first stream that I cared to watch before I knew anything about SC2. Taught me a lot and got me into the scene, and I thank you for that. Good luck with everything you do. I hope that in the future we can see you stream some more even if its not as a pro.

Best of luck in school! ^_^

Get a 4 year degree in chemistry and take it from there? Ah Sheth, you're picking just as unstable of an environment. I'd say the vast majority of students who are unemployed after graduating are those that just rolled with it. You picked a field with not the greatest career field spread, you should be figuring out where you're going to work a FULL year in advance. If you're telling yourself it's more important just to focus on school, you're only deluding yourself!
Although to be fair, many people take a year off before medical school, but that's often because they didn't get in right away. I'm just saying you're closing your door on working opportunities!
|
Good luck with everything, Sheth! Hope we see you around the scene doing some casting etc!
|
Big respect for what you are doing, going through and have done. All of it. You are way too hard with yourself and I will always remember your Code A games against San. Best of luck with whatever you end up doing!
PS: I'll miss (and I am already missing) your stream. You always gave some deep insights.

Thanks for this blog, Sheth, really really appreciate these blogs.. Good luck in school, and I really hope you can get back and start playing, but if it's just not in there, it's not. Do what you think will make you happiest is most important!
|
Best of luck Sheth :D Thanks for being so nice when we met at MLG and having such a great attitude in general.
|
I have a burning desire to be good, but not at an extremely high cost.
Story of my life
GL in college man, you were one of the few legitimely talented foreign zergs, your style was awesome, too bad you couldn't continue
one thing, I notice that pro gamers that aren't really passionated about SC2 always find a gazillion excuses not to play the game. remember guys, there's one and only one reason to do something/anything: because you want to. the moment you DON'T, you will find million excuses.
|
I'm really sad to hear you consider yourself to be one of the "losers" of the game. I really don't see it that way. Your results are good enough, but you've also made a big impact on the scene by just, you know, being you. You will forever be remembered as one of the most well mannered and friendly people in the SC2 pro scene, with your positive and uplifting stream commentary and your kind and gentle attitude whenever adressing the community.
Best of luck with the rest of your life, and I hope to still see you around, if not as a player, then at least as a fan. Take care.
|
Best of luck Sheth and take care of yourself!
|
Sounds like you picked the right decision, best of luck to you wherever your new life might take you!
|
Best of luck Sheth :D Because of interaction with fans and your personality, your stream was a priority and made me close Idra's one many many times Kind of sad to see you go but it's great you have a follow-up plan in life. Good luck :D
|
Get yourselft healthy and take your talents elsewhere.. see it has a new path and not just you "quiting"..
In the end it's like you say, the game also needs loosers and you sheth are probably one of the most loved pros outhere..
You were the best Zerg out of NA besides idra and scarlett and you deserve your fans for what you did for him!
GL and be happy!

So I guess that is your inevitable official resignation from the active roster of Liquid. Oh well. Sucks that medical issues have been keeping you from competing for so long already. Anyways, thanks for all the great plays and good luck with what lies ahead of you in life, Sheth!

A game needs a loser.
Right.
But you are no loser, Sheth. You inspired me and many others when you played versus San. Or wen you allkilled EG. Or when you streamed and commented your play.
You were a beacon for the zerg race, for manner, for high-level commentary. While you never won a high-profile tournament, you still made a difference.
|
At the end of the day, there's no way to know which path is going to be better for you.
That said, be confident in whatever you do. Obviously you're a driven guy and you have the motivation and talent to pursue your goals and dreams even through pain and opposition. You'll be successful in whatever you do, whether it be medicine, StarCraft, or some other game. Good luck in life Sheth and hope that you feel confident in yourself. You should, even if right now you're unsure.

Good luck in the things you want to pursue. Chemistry is awesome! I guess I am biased though =) Organic/Polymer chemist myself.

I'm very sad to read this but I wish you all the best for your future. Don't be so hard on yourself, you accomplished a lot as a player and I'm sure that you would have continued to do so if you didn't got the problems with your wrists!

it's better late than even later
games should be for fun and hobby, and that is the reality
Gaming as a profession is ridiculously unstable and not worth the investment of time
|
Health before Starcraft man, even if you don't come back you were one of the kindest pro gamer I've ever seen, compare yourself to Miniraser and Nerchio, your a saint.
|
Best of luck Sheth! My favorite Liquid player!
|
Sheth, you are anything but a loser my man. Keep your chin up, many people think very highly of you. Assuming you become a doctor, you will have so many doors open for you that it's not even funny. You could even conduct studies on the health of pro-gamers, or as a psychiatrist you could research personality types/IQ/playstyles and give us insight into people like Flash's minds. Thanks for your contributions and good luck with your recovery!
|
You have been a truly inspirational player and personality. Hope to see you pick up some casting gigs and continue to spread the love <3
|
GL at college Sheth, your awesomeness will always be remembered!
|
No disrespect, but I find that properly insane that you complain that streaming is tough ("because maybe you forget to run some commercials"), implying being a DOCTOR is easier on a day to day basis.
Even though you state that you have worked before, I am not sure you really grasp what working a standard job is, especially compared to being a progamer...
I find your comments disrespectful to those who work on a day to day basis, and have to read you complaining about how tough life is when you are getting paid (in the most friendly/stable team there is in the scene) to play a video game, and travel around the world for tournaments.
Anyway, I wish you the best of luck for your future endeavors, and I hope you will mature regarding the "toughness" of being a progamer related to other standard jobs.

Hey Sheth , I should suggest after all this surgeries to get to see an expert in "Posturology" it could help you tremendously not to get the same injuries over and over be it on legs/wrists/other...
in this school of thought there are multiple professionals involved , from Podologists to Chiropracticioneers to Phisyotherapists , even optometrists are making some things there.
only a thing to consider , aside from the more traditional doctor-surgery that in some cases is of course really needed but in some others it can be quite invasive and alter the body as a whole.
Best of luck ,Your Fan, MeatLoaf.

All the best, Sheth. Have fun with whatever you will be doing. Keep that attitude!

Hey Sheth,
Good luck with Chemistry. Don't stop with a BS though unless you want to switch it up and go Chemical Engineering.
Always enjoyed your stream. Woulda picked you over Idra any day.

Sheth has mentioned that he has worked before so he does have a frame of reference from both sides. You on the other hand do not so it's pretty ironic to scold Sheth about how he doesn't know what he's talking about when in fact you're the ignorant one. I LOVE video games but I would never in a million years be able to do that for 9 hours a day, every day. If Sheth says it's tough you have no reason to not believe him. By the way Stephano was much better at it then Sheth was (in both achievements and, I'd imagine, money) and he chose to quit as well so clearly Sheth is not just an outlier.
GL with everything you do in the future Sheth. As others have said before me chemistry is awesome.

You are going to be a chemistry major and you have a name where your initials are the same. S.S.

smart choice to focus on the studies in light of physical issues. still, win or lose, would love to see you play if you have the time and want to humor our incessant need for content. ;-) always will be one of the best players to root for given your amazing amiable nature.

Good luck in all your future endeavors! I think I speak for everyone who enjoyed watching your games that you are a winner in our books

All good things must end. Good Luck, may you find joy in all you do. The Starcraft 2 scene will be a worse place with you gone. As for the scenes need loser, you were and are no loser. My favorite Team League match ever was you all killing EG. That was such an amazing set. Your play was fantastic, the planing perfect, I was more invested in that team match then any other team games. Instill remember how great of a stream you ran, and how you read your chat and responded in such a nice manner.

Being a pro gamer is really fucking tough, you gave it your all and you made a meaningful impact on the community. You don't have anything to reproach yourself! Best of luck in the future, keep in touch!

Sheth said that he's mowed yards.. which is pretty damn far from an actual "job". Though the guy you were replying to was harsher than he probably needed to be, there was a lot of truth in what he was saying. The idea that gaming is within even a comparable measure to the stress and time-commitment of med school is laughable.
But back on topic of the thread - best wishes to Sheth on his future endeavors. Hope you find the willpower to get into healthy shape and and drive/focus to succeed w/school... if that's what you end up landing on.

You are a winner in my eyes, Sheth. Pro life is only something you do out of love of what you do. The pay is crap, the hours are plentiful, the stress as you mention, and furthermore you are pretty much forced to do it even when you are sick of the game(which comes in periods). When you get obstacles that cannot be torn down, you need to re-evaluate. You are not the first to be robbed of your career by injuries, and will not be the last. Some people never get over it mentally. You seem to do, because you see opportunities.
A fit body as you have now, is making the mind stronger. And you need a strong mind to prevail in anything you do, if you want to stay on top.
I am well aware that you still love the game, and your mind is working on coping with the loss, that your hands prevented you doing what you love(d). You gave us one hell of a fight. The goal is not the end goal, but the ride from A to Z. I hope you enjoyed it as well, and have collected many fond memories. I hope you will focus on all the rich good things that happened, rather than becoming bitter. You will always have a eFamily here, and all the people you met through eSport, with people that love you and wish you all the best. We love you, because you are you, not your results, or being a pro.

Good luck! Looks like those things outside of progaming give you so much benefits, especially for your health. Good luck on whatever you will do next!

We can't all be winners. Games need losers too.
Like others said before - sorry mate, you don't get away this easily. You brought so much class, maturity and humor into this scene, stuff it very badly needed. I consider you one of the best things to happen to professionel gaming and winning a game or two more would not affect that judgement one bit. Get healthy, stay healthy, best of luck in your life, sir!

As with all the rest, best of luck in the future!
I will side here with those who think the life of a pro-gamer is.. well, pretty bad. Long hours, bad pay, the usual... But also the fact that it's competition. Someone's gotta lose. And it's the guy who put in less time, or had some run in with bad chance. The crazy thing about sc compared to traditional physical sports is that while your body tops out in physical practice, the limit for pro-gamers is very high. You can't play 10 hours of football or basketball. You CAN play 10 hours of games and more. Losing is part of the game, and unfortunately for some, it's the most likely outcome in the grand scheme of things.
I wouldn't say being a doctor is easier, but it's certainly the better route to go. Hours, pay.. Plus the mental rewards that it gives. It's much easier at the end of a bad day for a doctor to cope well versus a pro-gamer. The doctor can say "well at least I'm a part of a field that strives to save and improves people's lives". The pro-gamer can say "I help provide entertainment to people". It's not black and white, there are certainly reasons to pick the entertainment route, but for me personally, I would certainly view being a doctor as more rewarding.

A long time ago, like maybe even a few weeks after WoL beta, Sheth coached me. It was the first time I'd ever been coached at any game, and I was nervous for some reason. I was being taught by the Sheth himself!
Well, Sheth was so fucking nice and patient, he really made everything seem so easy and put a lot of other stuff into perspective for me. After the lesson, I got really, really inspired to play. I was so pumped that I pursued gaming as a profession myself, only to fall quite short due to some of the pitfalls mentioned in the OP. I don't even have to say it, but damn Sheth was so nice. He would even see me playing, and would message me for a while after our lesson to check up on me, give me some more advice, etc.
So Sheth, you helped me out so much and I really appreciate everything you've done with your career. Both as a fan and as a student, best of luck no matter what happens out there man.

I still check every new game to see if you signed up...and am still disappointed every time.
GL sir Sheth!

Such a heartbreaking blog to find out you may not be coming back Sheth. However, health should always be priority no matter what line of work you are in.
Best of luck. GL HF!

good luck sheth, and take care of yourself. Teamliquid always has a place for you (as does mafia, you scum).
I remember speaking to chosen back at mlg anaheim 2011, watched him play on mainstage and hand out tl pins. Study hard - as a resident of the 19th grade, I can tell you that even though school is easier than work, being best in the world in anything is pretty tough

I don't think you should have any regrets at all about your progamer career, you did very well and it was a pleasure cheering for you. I'm convinced you won't do anything but great when you start channeling that hard work into college and health.
GL and take care!

If Stephano is retiring, I think its okay for you to retire . It was a fun run, you probably made some good friends in the process and got to travel quite a bit. I can't think of that as being a failure when you think about it objectively, although I suppose you could travel for other reasons (like a Las Vegas gambling trip). Anyway, ummm good luck dieting!

good luck sheth! i'm sure you'll be successful doing the college -> med school path or whatever else you decide to do =]

i do not know what kind of hand problems you have... i am no pro and even i have hand and finger problems to be exact... my right wrist and right index finger joint
there is this bracer sold in wal-green, i think all pro gamers need to have it it sets your right wrist at the correct position when you are sleeping and doing something else not during games don't wrap it too tight though... ideally you want wrist at good position AND constant flow of blood stream going through during your sleep, the blood stream will repair tissues
secondly, sleep more is key to slimmer body the funny thing about sleeping is that you really don't consume more calories i suggest turning that idea of "power nap" around... instead having "power training session" basically, as important as training and practice can be, reducing body's "burden" is also key
anyway, i wish you well, no matter what your final decision is

I know I'm late to seeing this blog, but just wanted to wish you a big good luck in your academic endeavors Sheth! I really enjoyed getting my degree in chemistry. Even though I don't use it now in my job at all and haven't in a long time, I think it's a great degree for those seeking to increase their analytical capabilities. Hope you enjoy it and are successful!
