MR. TORGUE SAYS PREPARE YOURSELF FOR PICTURES, GIFS, AND YOUTUBE LINKS. ALSO IT IS PRONOUNCED GIFF NOT JIFF, JIFF IS A MOTHERF*CKING PEANUT BUTTER BRAND.
Anyways to get to the point I decided to do a battle report on our first missions not unlike those great old Brood War write ups.
A Noob's DnD Campaign
Brief Character Intros/Prologue (Feel free to skip, no combat)
Most of the players that would be participating the first day already had their character sheets up and most of the people participating have been in DnD campaigns before. We were using some house rules and weren't too strict about a lot of the finer rules and details in order to make everything go smoothly. Eventually we would be joined by a Druid, but as of right now his character sheet was incomplete and his place in the story left blank.
Three characters all start in a forest clearing, unconscious and unaware of who each other are or how they got there. We have Galax, the half leprechaun half human Rogue with blinding speed. Batou, the human Jumper who charges and teleports into fights dealing precision damage. And finally Blast, the humanoid baby dragon sorcerer, complete with claws and magic as well as being around the same size as any human despite being a baby in dragon terms.
Galax wakes up first and scouts the area before deciding to find out who Batou is. Batou has pretty tattered clothes including only half a shirt and generally hobo-esque clothes. Galax figures this is less sketchy than waking up the currently naked dragon thing. Both characters quickly agree they have no idea what is going on. Blast begins waking up but before Galax or Batou can do anything, Blast has a knife held to his throat by a hooded individual, almost certainly a man based on his physical stature. The hooded individual barks orders at everyone to explain who they are and what they are doing here. Blast identifies himself while Batou and Galax explain themselves from a distance, resulting in the cloaked individual lowering his knife. At this point Blast finds his clothes sitting in a bag near him, very flamboyant clothes in fact.
Apparently dragon things dress like that but with a top hat instead. Don't ask me.
The unknown man reveals himself to be Obaris and is a soldier of Middle Eastern ethnicity. Everyone introduces themselves including the two companions of Obaris who appear from the brush. The group all agrees that they should stick together, despite the general mistrusting nature of both Galax and Batou, and that they should find a way out of the forest. Obaris points out that the sun is not the same as the world he is from it is in fact blue, and the group collectively agrees that they are all in a different land altogether. In the next area Obaris motions the group to stay back so everyone hides nearby. Farther forward are two children, one around his early teens and the other more towards his late teens. After finding out that they are friendly and in the same situation as the rest of the group, we learn they are brothers named Orsas and Erben. The group makes camp and Obaris and his men split deer meat with the others.
I imagine besides singing this song around the campfire, Galax is probably wondering about the significance of deer existing on this world, Batou already spilled half of his food all over himself while eating, and Blast is probably pondering magic while stroking his pimp cane.
TLDR
Main Player Characters:
Galax the Rogue (Half Human, Half Leprechaun): Very fast, noble, cunning and street smart. So far he realizes not to trust any of these strangers but they are his best survival chance for the moment.
Batou the Jumper (Human): Quick fighter with the ability to teleport (Jump) in battle. Crude, friendly up front, but very unattached and worried mostly about his own well being. Identifies with Galax's way of doing things.
Blast the Sorcerer (Humanoid Baby Dragon, still around human size): A little bit of an eccentric, but generally friendly and trusting of others.
Non Player Characters:
Obaris and his two companions Liwal and Leichel: Trained soldiers proficient in combat with guns, former special forces. Obaris is very kind and trusting despite a bit of a hostile introduction to the main characters. Galax and Batou do not agree with his confidence in strangers although Blast does.
Orsas and Erbin: Two young boys, one 18 years old and the other 14 years old who are brothers. Not much is known about them but Orsas begins learning to fight from Obaris's companion Liwal.
First Battle/Practice Round
The group, although made up of many strangers, has just broken camp when they run into packs of wolves. Obaris takes his companions to protect Orsas and Erbin from one of the packs. Our player characters are left to fight together against a Dire Wolf and two smaller wolves.
Galax although he is the quickest, stands his ground against the three wolves, not wanting to charge into battle in an insanely aggressive manner. The dire wolf charges him, but he is already prepared and simply dodges the wolf's attack. Batou draws his great sword and charges a different wolf that is farther from their formation, fitting to his style of blazing into battle. He injures this wolf pretty severely and it is bleeding from its wounds. Blast, in a feat of surprising speed for his nature, charges to the smallest wolf across from Batou and spews forward a ray of frost from his claw tip. Incredibly the tiny wolf does a back flip in midair dodging the spell. Batou, who sees this combat near him is amazed, not only at the magic but at the incredible moves the wolf has.
I'm sure the whole battle between Blast and the smallest wolf went something like this, except nothing like this. I just think this movie is hilarious.
Meanwhile, at their original starting position Galax is left fighting the Dire Wolf by himself. Galax strikes and lands a solid blow with his blade, but the Dire Wolf can take a lot more punishment. The dire wolf misses another blow against the agile reflexes of Galax. On the other side of the battle Batou and the wolf miss each other, but Blast lands his magical frost on his second try and shatters the third and smallest wolf's icy corpse. The Dire Wolf looks at the smaller wolf's corpse with hungry eyes. As Galax and the Dire wolf fight, Galax lands his attack, but the Dire Wolf swipes at him with a claw, delivering a deep cut across his chest. Batou and the remaining wolf again miss each other, but Blast ignores them and runs straight to the Dire Wolf, tearing into it with his claws. Before Galax or the Dire Wolf can react, a sniper round comes from a distance and explodes the head of the Dire Wolf, instantly killing it.
Critical Hit!
The shot is from Liwal who had come to help their party after Obaris's group had finished dealing with their own wolves. Batou slices the last wolf killing it and the party moves on.
We essentially played into our party's unfamiliarity with each other, each of us went for separate targets and there wasn't any true team work or communication. Luckily Liwal came and delivered a critical hit to finish the powerful Dire wolf before it could potentially kill Galax.
Even though the battle was easy it felt good. Besides we need the experience!
Addendum
Anyways even though this was only the start of the campaign that day, I figured I'd split it into two sections seeing as how it was a bit long and how there won't be another campaign to write about next week while one of the players is out of town. Still, you should tune in for the next one as it includes our first boss fight! Please leave criticism below and let me know what you want more or less of. I wasn't too sure how much story/fighting detail I should put in without making it too long and also let me know if you enjoyed the media add ins or if they were too distracting. See ya next week buddies!
